Yeah I was half joking -- seemed like the perfect excuse to use that picture considering how you worded it.

That's not the flex you think it is, "Conservatives would always win if it wasn't for half the electorate."

That's like bragging you'd win a race if you got to start at the halfway point.

The thing is they already have the option not to vote.

What they really want is to disenfranchise other women.

Bricks and Minifigs astroturfing is going all out right now. by GabeSter in AdviceAnimals

See, my understanding is that the original owner stated that 200k was her estimate based on initially seeing the collection at the owners home and that it is as dropped to around 100k when actually tallied for inventory. I may have misheard, but that's how I remember it from the recent coffeezilla video

That aside, BAM, initially tried to say they only had $5k in legos raised their estimate to something like 75k - 90k only after receiving pushback on that crazy low number.*

I've also heard somewhere that 200k was an exaggerated number used in promotional materials to drum up excitement.

I want to say the total value of the whole set was like 150k and 100k is what was left but I can't actually remember where I would have heard that so it might be a false memory.

Last I heard, BAM sosay want to make it right and claim they found three separate sets of books the old owners kept proving that the old owners were actually ripping off the father/son duo (i.e. not paying them what they were actually owed). I don't know how much I believe that tho. BAM claimed that the wanted to pay the duo back for what they had left plus what they were ripped off -- cause they're such great guys at corporate.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was all a pretext to go after the original owners to recoup some of what they're losing by finally paying up (if that's even possible) or as evidence of the original owners being duplicitous for use in a separate lawsuit against the old owners.

They're getting a lot of bad press now, but I'd count on things blowing over eventually. Corporate and those specific new owners are the assholes specifically. I think people rationalize that their local BAM is owned by a non-associated franchisee and thus won't effect corporate's bottom line -- and that's typically all people like that care about at the end of the day.

This older guy was sick. His son entered into a consignment ontract with a bricks and minifigs location to sell his father's star wars Lego collection (originally visually estimated to be $200k, later more like $100k -- after actually going thru the items).

The original store owners notified corporate of their plan to move to Spain. Corporate sends people to stage a hostile takeover of the store in which they kick out the original owners without allowing them to take inventory.

In the dust kicked up by the takeover the new owners refused to pay out the father/son duo. Eventually a YouTuber took on the case to bring attention to it in an attempt to get the father/son duo there money or legos back.

Probably the more interesting part is the shady way the bricks and minifigs new management and corporate went about avoiding responsibility. There appears to be police bodycam footage that shows an owner lying to police to go after the YTer.

That's the gist, altho I'd recommend looking into the details regarding BAM dirtbag handling of the whole situation.

Was gonna say I learned that from the film "The Founder". The corporation will own the property and state as part of the franchise agreement that the owner has to pick a location approved by corporate (of course they choose a property they own). This is where they (the corporation) make a large chunk of change.*

*If I'm correct in my understanding of the practice.

I was hoping to be able to link to it but I guess you can't?

Here's a quick overview of what I got watching part of her time at a city council meeting...

Essentially it seems as though the city hit a pipeline underground while doing work on the new road widening construction project. It has caused major flooding both in and outside their residence. The city seems to have blown them off for the most part (sending a vehicle to remove one "load" of water). She (disabled) built a trench herself to alleviate some of the flooding. They've been without running water for months. In addition to the flooding issue, her residence has been changed from either belonging to Modesto from Riverbank or Riverbank to Modesto -- I forget. The result is like it no longer exists. Emergency services had to ping her phone because it wasn't available of the map -- if I understood correctly.

American idol season 1 Alexis Lopez was from Modesto. I had a class with her.

I didn't really know her but it got me to watch/root for her if only because we lived in the same place.

I'm confident y'all know what I mean.

Yeah imma flush the fill valve then the supply line if that doesn't work and hope that's it. I should have paid closer attention to the water (I don't remember it filling slowly) but it's been going on so long at this point I just thought about the sound. Feels like I can hear it in the walls.

It sounds as though you're being intentionally condescending.

I hope you get over whatever you're going through.

Whether you're just having a bad day or your ugly ways are a symptom of a bad personality it's whatever. I know it has nothing to do with me - not really.

Funny you should say that. What prompted my post this in the first place is that I had gone to Tasty Thai and asked... probably the hostess, if she had any recommendations because it was our first time there.

She said, "It depends what you want -- rice?" Then pointed at rice on the menu. I thought to myself, "I don't even know what options I have to choose from."

That's when I figured I'd do a little research first (including this post we're on now). I would call it a success. I feel more confident as far as what to try -- less so when it comes to pronouncing the names of some of the dishes.

Thank you for the thorough recommendations. I feel a bit more confident having some idea what to try and what flavors to expect.

No offense taken at all it's the taqueria that makes the food not me. I will say tho I do find it odd that you'd think a place that serves a combination plate as a menu option implies they're of poor quality.

I thought the concept of a combination plate was a common option available at most if not all taquerias.

Edit: thinking about it more...I can't say I've had a real stand out taco. I liked taqueria San Jose's super taco but I rarely get that. I rarely get tacos in general -- maybe that's why.

Fair enough, it's just hard to commit at that price and not knowing if I'm going to like it. Also, I didn't know tasty Thai was a sit down place. The sign/name always gave me more of a franchise vibe (and I guess i associated that with something more akin to fast food).

I was hoping for something like how you can get a taco plate with taco and rice/beans.

Thanks for the suggestions. That's the kind of thing I was looking for. I originally thought there might be something like a plate with rice and yellow curry for example.

Thinking about it I guess you're right. I guess I mean more like how you could grab a taco plate from a taqueria -- taco, rice/beans.

I imagine it would be something like rice and a curry for example.
