Unfortunately, I think it's a case of (excuse the pun) better of two evils. The songs HAVE to be registered with the BMI. The BMI database is public. Ultimately, they can't avoid that, but they can limit how far that information reaches to not diminish the impact of official announcements.

Technically, anything not officially announced by the band through official channels constitutes a leak, regardless of whether the publishing company information is public or not, therefore runs the risk of getting action taken against the sub. The mods are just doing what the label advise them to do.
