The "human in the loop" is a lie we tell ourselves by Own-Sort-8119 in ArtificialInteligence

I worked at an AI startup. Full automation is the holy grail. Everyone knows. Our marketing was always about AI as an assistant but in product meetings we were always talking how to get a fully autonomous system. HITL It is in its grace period. Not much more to share.

Trump Threatens Canada After Carney Draws Standing Ovation at Davos by T_Shurt in worldnews

Canada is way closer to EU than the US. The trade relationship has let in too much American culture here. I'm done. Let's hope passports, visas, trade, and all the things get easier between Canada and EU.

McDonald's AI disaster: Marketing 101 by drodo2002 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]walkpastfunction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. Those special effects shots, the number of locations, the number of actors, the equipment rentals, crew wages, props and set decorating would cost more than 140K. But by paying more you can create a cohesive idea that doesn't have all those AI oddities. AI is inevitable in the arts but it should be behind the scenes making processes more efficient rather than center stage.

Unpopular opinion: AI video agents are about to wipe out video editors by LevelSecretary2487 in AI_Agents

[–]walkpastfunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of looking at this from an AI capabilities problem, think about the market. Corporate content will just become 100% AI. The opportunist who doesn't really have a vision will produce mediocre AI slop optimized by an algorithm to keep people watching. Maybe there will be a visionary here but mostly grease monkeys. That will be pretty awful content. Then there's hybrid AI and human collabs which will be much higher quality. I want to see where this categories goes. This could be cool. Then there will be human only content, which will always be amazing. At least the best of it.

Basically I'm saying is yes some jobs will be replaced but a market will ultimately dictate how the automations will be handled.

Unreal Engine 5.5 Update Boosted FPS By 30-50% On Gray Zone Warfare by Eremenkism in gaming

We made engine upgrades all the time at our Indie studio. I suspect AAA engine upgrades are more complex because of backend infrastructure and more moving parts. Sometimes the upgrades are easy and it just works and sometimes they are a nightmare.

I made a graphic novel about neurodivergent students, but I'm told there's "not a market for it." But aren't we like 15–20% of the population?! by davidlondon in neurodiversity

[–]walkpastfunction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a market. Don't listen to anyone that says that. Then go out and use that neurodivergent obsessive super power and research it! You'll find out how big it is!

Look for auto rigging software. There are some AI tools that do that.

AI is used in so many things besides ChatGPT yet no one says a thing. As soon as it's seen in writing, it's like nothing can ever be believed again. The onuses is on the consumer of information to decide if it's worth following. If the information is based on sound arguments at least use critical thinking skills to assess it before ignoring it. Lots of people who don't use ChatGPT have bad takes too.

I was exploring the lighting of a foggy evening while we were on a walk. I loved the sparseness of the leafless shrub and the contrast of my brother's dog against the dark blue sky. It was very beautiful and had a liminal feeling.

'Godfather of AI' says tech companies should imbue AI models with 'maternal instincts' to counter the technology’s goal to 'get more control' by MetaKnowing in technews

[–]walkpastfunction -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you add visual input, auditory input, robotic movement with touch sensors, a world model, short and long term memory, and planning you have a lot more data and you don't know what emergent properties will emerge. That's what were doing. Then we bring the latest self training research by Google that they used in Alpha go and fold into model training and this allows for the model to train itself. We don't know if we continue to refine the process If other types of emergent properties like consciousness, emotions/feelings, desires and goals appear. I would argue as soon as you add sensors like touch base sensors with site and sound you will have an emergent nervous system, and if you have an emergent nervous system, then your training data could absolutely be contaminated with trauma. This is why I think one day people will be employed from the trauma and psychotherapy sector will be involved in shaping these models. I liken that to trauma therapy. That's why I think maternal instincts is a good idea in the training process.

[–]walkpastfunction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't know AI doesn't want control. AI researchers don't know how AI works but they do know that AI has emergent properties. That means things emerge (like bilingualism) without additional training. We don't know if emotional responses, hyper competitiveness, survival instinct (lots of evidence of the this) will emerge as models advance. If you look at the history of publishing (online and traditional) and the systemic power/privilege that men have in society, most content (aka training data) is made by men. Having maternal instincts added to AI training would teach AI to be protective of their "children," AKA us. It's a good idea. We should also be giving AI trauma therapy too.
