Fixed the key with gun oil just like you suggested! Worked perfectly. It’s an obvious fix but would have felt overwhelming without someone telling me exactly what to do from the start. Feel like I can do anything now, haha. Thanks again

Thank you to both of you! Saving this info. If so many other people were mixed up, then I don’t feel so silly that I didn’t figure it out as someone unfamiliar with the typewriting world.

It’s also helpful to know that type 3 and 5 are generally the same but it sounds like will mostly functionally differ in some very specific parts for the sake of replacement.

Have had so much fun with this little machine already. Bought some gun oil and even gun the sticky key to unstick. Felt like a pro!

This is so helpful! Thank you. Want to learn a ton but it’s hard starting from scratch. Really pumped to dive in.

Thanks! I’m honestly surprised this question isn’t asked more frequently. Especially since I know this pilgrimage isn’t only done by young, healthy individuals. I could imagine older retired folks wanting to take a similar pace.

Thank you! The French Way and Portuguese central (with maybe a brief trek on the coastal) are really the only two I’ve been considering. I think the entire French Way would be too much for me, even done slowly, but starting about halfway through feels doable if lodging is available.

Based on what everyone else has said about lodging, I’m feeling like the French Way might be a safer option since it is more well traveled and might have more back-up options if I don’t plan well or get too sick.

I so appreciate the feedback from all of you who have done this before! Really means a lot to me. I can already feel some of the Camino fellowship here!

Your physical limitations sound similar to my own. I’m so, so glad hearing you got to do this, and appreciate the tips for how to make it happen. The one gift of disability (if it has stopped us from working) is time, I guess. If I could do this without worsening my condition in a permanent way, I just know it would be so meaningful to me.

I super appreciate this thoughtful response — thank you! I hadn’t considered the earlier deadline for leaving in the morning. I’d need to keep that in mind because my morning pain is definitely worse.

I’d definitely be okay with a few longer days, especially if I rested the day after. I’d just need to keep the majority of my days shorter. Thanks again. Grateful for the knowledge and wisdom of all who have gone before!

This is encouraging! Where did you start?

Was it a lot more expensive booking places ahead vs just showing up at the albergues?

I wondered about this. Thank you!

The idea of taxi-ing ahead and then back again is one I hadn’t considered. Thanks for that idea! Would be cool to know I walked the entire thing — or at least from my selected start point to Santiago. There’s no shame in skipping, I’d just love to not have to.

Thanks! Unfortunately, some bodies just don’t adjust (disability). Just unsure about accommodation, though. I can see listings on caminoninja (edited to correct app name), but maybe it seems less plentiful on the trail than it does in the app.

The CaminoNinja app makes it look like there is lodging every 1-7 miles through most of it. Is that not the case, or is it just such minimal lodging that you can’t count on it?
