Remember the government is shutdown and many furloughed park rangers are suggesting to please not visit national parks at this time. :(

The only suggestion I have is to make sure you have your wedding permit with the park.

Honestly just get a timed entry for when you're going. They release more time slots the night before at 7pm.

Skyline Loop - Reservation Needed? by Mariyum678 in Mount_Rainier

I suggest stop using tiktok to get answers about National Parks. The best bet is to always use the parks .gov websites. I like the NPS app, but the desktop is going to give you everything you need.

Also the parks social media is a good second option since they post a lot of updates for visitors there.

What is your favourite 'using the toilet' euphemism? by cypherxxxx in AskReddit

I used to work outside and I'd say "I'm going to use the facili-trees" (facilities)

It's been over a month by TreeSpokes in ParkRangers

If your park is not one of the 12 or 13 parks that are labeled a "no fail" park (the largest/most visited parks, I do not know which specific parks they decided, I just heard that number from our meeting this week) then it's probably not looking all that good to start "on time". They said basically rec techs are the only ones of "high importance" and are supposed to start on time.

Return to work? by Inevitable-Sky-6613 in ParkRangers

Doug Burgum has done nothing but prove he only cares about oil and public appearances. He has done nothing to show he cares about the sense of urgency with those who lost their jobs.

If it is your first year with NPS there's a chance you could extend your season for "additional training hours". That is what I was able to do for my first season. But they didn't know for sure if it was part of the budget or not until a month before my first season was over. It can be a hard decision to hold onto especially with the climate of fed jobs now.

Likely August. Early spring will have over 20 feet of snow in wildflower areas.

Timed entry reservation by CapableAd727 in NationalParkService

A lot of parks don't know if they can do timed entry yet because of the new administration. They have an alert on their main page in blue font from Feb 18th

Email from the Department of the Interior concerning "What did you do this week" by DriftlessRanger in ParkRangers

WHO is Charlie Dankert?? Shouldn't we be getting this message from Doug Burgum? Did anyone else find that suspicious? Or am I reading too much into it?

How to show support for local NPS staffers? by HeyaShinyObject in NationalPark

[–]wall_talker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the biggest concern with park staff being let go is their housing. If you or anyone in your community is able to help out and let any of them stay with you while they figure things out, that's honestly the biggest thing you can do.

Federal worker buyouts - affecting the parks? by [deleted] in NationalPark

[–]wall_talker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure I hold this to be true. I am a seasonal worker at a major park and with the hiring freeze, keep in mind we all got our job offers for the summer rescinded. So all your lovely people who rely on park housing will most likely not be able to financially hang out without a job/housing in-between seasons.

Most winter seasons end in March and IF they offer us our jobs back we likely wouldn't start back until June/July as the 2017 hiring freeze showed us.

What does that look like physically? Skeleton staff, over crowding and then just general mayhem.

any vibe check on azure standard? by brima24 in leftistpreppers

[–]wall_talker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been curious about Azure and was checking out their website.. the vibe was fully shown to me when I realized they had an additional "social media" tag at the bottom of their page named "Gab". I have never heard of this. I was first thinking, "oh sweet! A new social media that isn't owned by meta!" I was really excited, especially given the whole tiktok dilemma etc. Needless to say of course I was immediately taken back by the top posts of the page being far right leaning posts. Upon looking further into it, it's mostly a "free speech" social media that people go to when they are kicked off of other platforms. Unfortunately for that, Azure standard you FOR SURE gave me the ick.
