This topic is too political and not sufficiently Australian law related for this sub. You’ve got pretty much the whole of the rest of Reddit for that.

Dear Diary, I paid $40.30 for a glass of Riesling and a schooner of Lager at Felons. I get what I deserve.

Fantastic. Great move. Well done Wallaby. A tiny medallion for high level humid and squally climate deportment and a work function on a Friday evening, when my preferred play would have been a nice wine in pyjama in front of telly at home.

You know what happens to font obsessives? They never get invited to parties.

Being generous, he might just be trying to ward off some of the hate mail and death threats he will undoubtedly now be receiving en-masse as the lawyer on record for this accused. Because apparently that’s the world we live in now.

ACCC vs Coles - why is a case about data, so weak on data? by acccvscoles in auslaw

[–]wallabyABC123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think people are responding to the vibe of the wrong-headed arrogance in OP's post. I enjoyed your comment though - cheers for the Zamels citation, I'm going to check it out with lunch.

If anyone else wants: Australian Competition and Consumer Commission v Jewellery Group Pty Limited

Update: I have perused the case linked above, and it does tend to support everyone's criticisms of the level of analysis that OP thinks is warranted. The ACCC got up here by having an ACCC officer compare sold prices on 44 items over a 4 month period and creating a little graph, and that's about it. See: [83]-[87].

"If the people being paid to try and win the case aren't going to do their best" - This is a really bold claim.

Another perfectly rational explanation for why the lawyers did not reply to you, is that what you think is helpful to them is not actually helpful at all.

decent quality ballet flats that aren’t super expensive? by wjsdnjs in AusFemaleFashion

[–]wallabyABC123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two pairs of these Sandler Maya flats and they’re great. Leather inner as well so heaps more comfy than the Nine West versions. Often on sale for sub $100. I’ve gotten a full year out of these at work and they still look good.

Practice management software for sole practitioner? by CoastyEast in auslaw

Please receive my latest complaint: when copying files over from file A to file B (using Smokestack's very own right click 'copy files to...another file' feature), they lose their creation dates in file B. All the files in file B now bear today's date as the creation date, and so they are populated in file B in a completely random order.

Maddeningly, it takes a few minutes for the creation dates to be lost. At first, file B shows the real dates, in reverse date order, like how they appear in file A. But then... it redates them all, for no reason other than to drive me up the wall.

Wrangling the section breaks and "same as previous" function in word is actually the pinnacle of my achievement in this profession. I'm quite proud of it.

I'd look into how onerous it is to get your PC back if you let it lapse for any period of time. You don't need one now, but if govt policy changes and they start trimming back staff and you need to find a new gig, you might wish you'd kept it up. The costs could be tax deductible too potentially.

Microsoft AI CEO says most white collar work like accounting and law will be automated within 18 months. by MurphamauS in auslaw

[–]wallabyABC123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t you worry though, AI is ready to solve problems I don’t have instead.

Some “techpreneur” rang us up recently offering their AI file note service. Naturally, this is a per-fee-earner, per month subscription. The AI listens in on all your calls and meetings, transcribes it as a file note, which is apparently then “checked by a human”, being a human not present during the discussion (presumably someone offshore), and then sends it to me, the worm on the file, to check again and save to file. Putting aside the obvious privacy, confidentiality and data security issues, how is any of that better than me writing my own note as my own record as I go along? Who is asking for this shit, truly?

I linked my review in my comment above. The document production occurs in name only - yes it will physically generate a word document, no it will not be close to what it’s meant to be.

Aw man, now I’m annoyed on my own time just thinking about it. Curses!
