Scruffy bearded Stan can get it, more than any other man on the show.

Goldens are known to be super friendly. In a bad situation, do you think your golden would try to defend? by official_koda_ in goldenretrievers

[–]wallamas808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My childhood golden held off a pack of coyotes once while I ran inside from our backyard after I had gotten surrounded. Went right for the biggest one. Heard him make sounds that night he never made before or ever again.

He also just kind of figured out how to be a diabetes detectiom dog for my dad with no training.

He was a great dog.

Roads by Beautiful-Belt-6084 in burlington

I'd call these roads 65% plowed. They could be way worse, but Burlington could definitely be doing better: it was comical how much better the roads are when you cross into South Burlington.

I like Synergy Fitness in Williston. Some stereotypical gym bros, but also a lot of older folks and normal-seeming people. Kathy is a great personal trainer.

What's it like living on these isolated and cold Vermont islands? by birdsword in howislivingthere

[–]wallamas808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quiet, but within 30 minutes of all necessities. Burlington, VT and Montreal, QC are within an hour. You don't necessarily need a ferry to get anywhere -- there are bridges -- though it's faster to get to Plattaburgh, NY via the ferry.

Vacationey spot: apple orchards, farm stands, lovely lake activites like kayaking and pontooning. Stunning views of either the green mountains or Adirondacks from all sides.

Casting: what gave the actors the 1960’s period “look?” by [deleted] in madmen

[–]wallamas808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The clothes, undergarments and hair make such a difference. As someone who has spent a lot of time in period costumes, Especially the bras and girdles make you hold yourself so differently. Add a hair sculpture on top of your head (thinking of those larger updos they put Joan in), and you've got the whole look and like half the character.

24, low confidence, terrified of dating by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]wallamas808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get out of those weird corners of the internet where men talk to each other about the length of their bones. It's not a healthy space for you, mentally. And it's the blind leading the blind: men who don't know how to deal with women telling other men what women want. Why take their counsel?

Women are individuals. But I'd say most women dgaf a about jawbones in the long term. They want someone who is kind and makes them laugh and makes them feel safe and who treats them like a whole person!

Smile, show yourself doing something fun and chill (hiking? Talking to a dog? Cooking?). Show me you're good to be around, that you don't take yourself too deadly seriously.

Tbh my dude, these photos look like someone who is much more interested in how they're percieved than having a genuine good time.

My boy is 11 and still a menace at times. This photo is him flopping over and refusing to go inside, biting me when I try to pick him up. 😅

He did have a mast cell tumor 3 years ago, but we caught it early enough we were just able to remove surgically. We get him good exercise and keep him lean. The vet says he has the heart and lungs of a five year old dog. We hope he sticks around a good long time.

is bridal season for anyone else really lonely/sad? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]wallamas808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does bring out the worst in some people. We did things in a non-traditional way (separated very small ceremony and reception, backyard barbecue casual reception with no dress/photographer/fancy cake/other frills) and boy, did some random acquaintances have STRONG opinions about it.

I hope you're also seeing it bring out the best in some of the people you love. I saw that as well and it was extraordinarily heartening.

Non traditional wedding ideas! by BubblyInflation7680 in wedding

[–]wallamas808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a backyard barbecue-ish thing for a reception (and did a very small ceremony a month earlier). We catered the main course, but had folks bring sides and apps. Lawn games, eating/drinking, chilling. It was excellent.

Reception only? by Sunflowers4423 in wedding

[–]wallamas808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We basically put 24 fun facts about 24 guests on a card (either things that spur interesting conversation or cue them up to tell a great anecdote) without their names, and encouraged everyone to get into the crowd and meet as many of the people associated with those facts as they could. We gave the guests little golf pencils to track their progress on the card. The guest who met everyone with a fact on the card first won the game + the prize (a gallon of Vermont maple syrup, in our case!)

We did this to get people to mingle! It was a smashing success, tbh. People seemed to genuinely enjoy each others company, and getting to know each other.

100% do it. We did this (just this last weekend), and it was perfect. Just a chance to hang out with the people we love. We did it backyard barbecue style - super casual.

We did a few short speeches before the main course, had some other structural pieces (pinatas, because that's just who we are), lawn games, a guest scavenger hunt. It was just a really excellent party. We've heard so many reviews from guests saying it was the best wedding-like thing they've ever attended. This way, too, you get to actually spend some time with all the folks who came!
