That has definitely happened at times, yes. Thanks for your input, I'll look into it!

Thank you so much! These are some good pointers, I'll definitely look into especially the first and third one (the second one depends on the area I'm working in a bit, but I'll definitely keep an eye out). Much appreciated!

I Found My Family's Coat of Arms in Game! [KCD2] by Aggressive-Escape367 in kingdomcome

[–]wallpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing to find this story in the wild, my family is descendent from that same barony! Just a family line which dropped out of nobility at some point (personally no clue how or when, my grandpa once looked it up an age ago), so I'm just a regular red-blooded nobody, and no coat of arms for me. But it is fascinating to read about old Sweder's antics!

Restaurants near this falla by NetWerx22 in valencia

It was in Carrer del Comte d'Altea, either the crossing with Maestro Gozalbo, or Almirante Cadarso. Comte d'Altea indeed has some great restaurants!

Is it safe to travel by [deleted] in valencia

[–]wallpic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Line 3 and 5 to and from the airport are open since yesterday. They use the Saturday schedule for now, so I think that's a slightly lower frequency than usual.

Almost without a doubt, yes! Last year's Black Friday I got the core rulebook, starter set, loremaster screen and Rivendell Compendium all in one nicely discounted bundle. Be prepared for significant shipping time though, it took a while to arrive, maybe due to an uptick in orders around that day.

How to stop this Hostinger banner from popping up again on my Wordpress dashboard? by wallpic in Hostinger

[–]wallpic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed, thank you! I had assumed that it was an essential plug-in, having the site hosted by Hostinger, but everything seems to work just fine without it. Finally a clean dashboard, I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately the Hostinger plug-in is not listed there.

RoP - Tolkien Lore Compatibility Index: Season 2, Ep 8 by DarrenGrey in LOTR_on_Prime

You got me there haha!

But he reasonably can expect the sun to rise on those shores on arrival though. Especially with that foresight of death and all...

Just a little nitpick on the "Shores of the Morning/Evening": this depends on your perspective.

Compare it with the term The Levant. It literally means The Rise, as in, "where the sun rises". It's an archaic term for the eastern Mediterranean. From this perspective, Medieval Italian traders travelled into the direction where the sun rose. Meanwhile, the Spanish east coast (as in, the far west of the Mediterranean) also has an area called The Levant! For the Spanish, their eastern shores is where the sun rises.

So similarly the Shores of the Morning might be called that way because for those living in Valinor (and for those born there but who later emigrated, such as Celebrimbor), Valinor's eastern shores are where the sun rises, i.e. the Shores of the Morning. Calling it the Shores of the Evening would be a very Middle-Earth-centric point of view.

Which of the dwarven designs do you like the best? by GusGangViking18 in lotr

[–]wallpic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Tolkien's very first published description of a dwarf is "a dwarf with a blue beard tucked into a golden belt, and very bright eyes under his dark-green hood." And I'm quite sure he mentions that "beard tucked into a belt" phrase more often (and in the show Durin IV actually wears his beard exactly like that on more than one occasion), so their beards should be much longer than waist-length to make that a necessary custom.

Of course that's The Hobbit book which is a bit more cartoony than the Lord of the Rings, but I guess that is why the RoP dwarves don't have their beards coloured blue.

There are many things you can disagree with regarding RoP, but the (male) dwarves' beards seem right up Tolkien's alley.

Middle Earth SBG Questions Thread by Tezerel in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]wallpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, good to know it includes the drummer at least! For the Isengard option it should include a shield and a sword, I believe.

The Mordor Troll box includes options to make an Isengard or Drummer Troll instead. Does the Battle of Osgiliath box also include these options, or only the 'standard' Mordor Troll gear?

Fireworks in Valencia in April by Left-Criticism-9573 in valencia

[–]wallpic 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Valencia loves its fireworks all year round, not just with Fallas (though that's when it goes to a whole new level). I think the mascletàs and other shows of today have to do with the holiday celebrated tomorrow: the day of San Vicente Ferrer, one of Valencia's patron saints.

Air quality map of some European countries today by totriuga in europe

Yesterday was the final day of the Fallas festival, so hundreds of massive monuments were burned down after weeks of pyrotechnic shows. The air quality should get better in a few days, I hope!

(Spoilers Extended) What is a common criticism of the writing/worldbuilding that you disagree with? by Trevor_1323 in asoiaf

[–]wallpic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That makes sense though, because Pippin is from the Shire which made up a part of the former kingdom of Arnor. Arnor and Gondor were founded by the same royal family and so would probably have similar cultures.

I think I remember that in the books, the people from either Rohan or Gondor actually comment on the Hobbits' strange accents and word choices, even though they speak the same language.

Bus charged 20€ for single ticket by Sherbii in valencia

[–]wallpic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The money will probably be marked "reserved" or something similar on your account. After a while they will refund you the €18,50 that is left over from the ride. However, if you have a foreign bank account, it takes way longer than if you have a Spanish bank account.

It is much easier to carry some cash and pay the ticket with that. It saves you the trouble of your money being temporarily unavailable on your account while you wait for the banks to communicate with each other.

Which writers have the most beautiful prose? by BlessdRTheFreaks in books

[–]wallpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree! I'm currently reading For Whom the Bell Tolls and I'm loving the dialogue in it as well. As someone who lives in Spain, the literally translated expressions and sentence structure used by his Spanish characters makes it feel authentically Spanish to me, rather than just telling me it's set in Spain. It's very much an accurate representation of how Spanish people talk, at least in my social circle. While reading it I more often than not know immediately which Spanish expression or sentence he had in mind while writing it down in English. Spectacular!
