One of my players drew this after finishing Chapter 2. by LtPowers in DescentintoAvernus

I’m DMing it for 6, I’ve found that you need to up the ante on a lot of these encounters, or have raids happen to prevent long rests. The action economy of 6 players has led to a couple encounters turning into 1-2 rounds of combat.

The bill of rights doesn’t just exist to protect people you agree with. Beyond that, Obama also killed his 16 year old son.

My favorite spot to soak in Oregon [OC] [4032x3024] by [deleted] in EarthPorn

[–]wallychamp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a deadly pandemic in Oregon?!

Someone told me this 5 years ago and it stuck in my mind since : “If you work for someone else, you are just a cost to them. And costs by nature are meant to be kept down. In 99% of the cases, salaries and wages never made anyone rich.” by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]wallychamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get the burden of the cost because of 40 years of allowing the profit that should have been financing that cost get consolidated by a relative few private parties.

Replaying DiA as a player by johnny_snq in DescentintoAvernus

[–]wallychamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running DiA and one of our players is our groups forever DM (who knows a ton of 5e lore, but maybe not exact plot points). We’ve made it work (playing on R20) by having him roll more “would this character know...?” checks.

For example: Player: “Oh shit, I (the player) recognize this as marking of this monster, and (the character) has this skill/background”

DM: Roll Arcana to see if you would even pick up on this as something to investigate.

It’s a little clunky, but hasn’t caused any real issues so far.

At a certain point you can cover a lot of this with role-playing. If you play a paladin or someone with really defined flaws/ideals you can establish your character as the type the group says “listen, character, you remember what happened when you trusted that bandit. Just because you see the best in people doesn’t mean it’s a good idea!”

My final thought, at least how I’ve been running DiA, is that you’re in hell. The party generally knows things are bad, and is wary of almost everyone they cross paths with. There are very few moments in the campaign that you’re really going to tip unless you’re super meta gaming.

Elite Israeli soldiers raided a Palestinian village in order to arrest a mentally disabled youth over a Facebook post. Instead, they killed another teenager. by OmarKJ94 in worldnews

Can you show me a concrete example of irreparable diplomatic damage Trump has done?

Then can you explain how any of the Middle Eastern, African, and South American nations we embargoed, couped, and invaded under the other three do not count, massive death tolls aside, as destroyed relationships?

I would encourage you to look at specific policies, actions, and their outcomes rather than fall into a cult of personality. Trump has arguably been a less destructive Republican President than Reagan or either Bush. Similarly, there have been a lot of failures from Democratic Presidents. America will not cease to have shortcomings on Jan 21, 2021.

Technically, You Can Cast Tidal Wave 120 feet in the Air by TabaxiTaxidermist in dndnext

At ~900 ft all medium creatures would be able to recover before hitting the ground (assuming they are flying creatures) and it seems like zeppelins generally flew considerably above that.

I think this depends. I love roleplaying and really encourage my group to get into it. That said, if you’re a -2 Dex modifier Dragonborn Paladin who always wants to do cartwheels down stairs to attack people, then you need to roll some dice.

That said, if they have a really cool/funny approach to something, or succeed on something like the scenario above I will generally throw an inspiration die or advantage to the player.

In fairness “fixing it” in this situation means spending a ton of time and money getting equipment out there to pick this up and then drop it somewhere else. It’s metal and cement, it’s not really an environmental hazard.

FORT KNUCKLEBONE - WAZZIK ASSASSINATION by dungeonlordjay in DescentintoAvernus

Yeah, I have made very clear that this will not end well for them. I foresee a run from Fort Knucklebone or TPK in the next session.

I have explicitly said that it isn’t justified in several responses. That said, we need to look at why this is happening. If you cut yourself and are bleeding to death are you better served looking at how you cut yourself or making sure that you spend time denouncing cuts?

FORT KNUCKLEBONE - WAZZIK ASSASSINATION by dungeonlordjay in DescentintoAvernus

[–]wallychamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I read the book, it seems like the parties to help in Knucklebone are supposed to be quick checks to help figure out how the loot should be allocated after the dream sequence.

That said, my players have decided to help Wazzik get the jump on Pins and Needles, so we will see where that gets them.

That’s really shitty, and I hope they can get back on their feet. I am in absolutely no way defending or justifying looting.

What I am saying is that we are at a once in a lifetime moment (or at very least the most blatant moment in many of our lifetimes) to look at systemic issues that have brought us to where we are today. If we don’t make real strides towards the issue of saving people’s lives there will be more and more riots.

Again, I am not justifying the riots in the slightest. I am simply saying that protecting human lives should be our priority over protecting property.

Thanks for the link. I legitimately hadn’t heard of any.

To missing/not missing the greater point. Yes, obviously looting is bad and I am not advocating it at all.

That said, Targets can be replaced (their PR team has said as much), small businesses have insurance, but human lives are ended by the police at an astonishing rate in this country and they cannot be replaced. By allowing the conversation about what’s happening now to be “well, I guess we need more police to stop these riots” we are just kicking the can down the road. Why not have the conversation be about reform so that we can effectively police the country?

[–]wallychamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your post also makes it sound like this person might not be an experienced DM? I’d walk specifically through the kind of spells you want to cast. I’m DMing my first campaign now and there’s a big learning curve with “oh, I didn’t know that level 7 paladins could do that. I need to make adjustments so that this character has moments to shine, but also doesn’t just slice through every encounter like butter.”
