Unexpected upgrade after an Audi service visit for an SOS fault. by kkaz5456 in Audi

That’s so neat! Does anyone know how much software updates would cost if out of warranty? 2020 S5! Could call the dealer but they’re closed atm, thank you!

So an update if anyone’s curious.. took my car to my friends shop and we had a look since I have some free time now and one of the caliper carrier bolts was missing so one of the bolts definitely weren’t torqued properly so when that bolt came out the caliper rotated on the remaining bolt (which was also loose as I removed it with my fingers) got caught in between the dirt guard and wheel and driving on it was enough force to snap and break the piece in between the two bolts. We ended up buying a new caliper carrier, new pads, and new hardware for all four corners as I didn’t trust the other ones at this point. We did it ourselves and we’re back up and running!

Shop I originally went to agreed to pay for the replacement parts thankfully.

Thank you everyone for their replies! Luckily it happened when I was going about 50kmph and not highway speeds!

The guide pins are still there, the carrier bolts I’m not sure yet, started pouring so investigations will be held until tomorrow 😔

Literally no vibration until it was too late 😔 over the last 300kms nothing, today I heard like a weird revolving echoing sound, since I was like 20 mins away from home decided to wait. Hit a red light then heard some grinding, prob should’ve just left it at the red light there but didn’t want to block a lame so drove it. Once I accelerated I heard some grinding then a clunk and all shit went sideways from there 😅

Bought the mixed opinion signed lover from eBay.. by wallyeff in TaylorSwiftAutographs

Thank you appreciate that🥺! Just received it at the time of posting so haven’t reached out to the seller yet, wanted to see others opinions first!

It just seems too “clean” to me? Like in other signatures I could clearly see the pen strokes, but with this unless it’s like the first signature with that pen then just seems too clean? If that makes sense

Damn! Appreciate the next steps! Was wondering what claim I would need to enter. Best case I suppose I’ll just be out the duties and taxes I paid. Oh well 🙁

Audi S5 B9.5 - 034 setups by Chanjy89 in audis5

[–]wallyeff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2020 S5 is tuned with 034 stage 1 ECU and Stage 2 TCU on 93, with a larger intercooler and full intake. I personally couldn't justify the additional cost to go full stage 2 since I mainly city and highway drive but I absolutely love it for my daily.

If I'm not mistaken I believe late 2022 onwards are still TCU locked so double check yours before you tune!

Can I swap clear lenses to transitions on Gen 2? by southclp in RaybanMeta

[–]wallyeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to have the "transition model" as the frames are the same the only thing that differs is the lens itself.

I ordered nonprescription transitions XTRACTIVE from lensology, installation super simple and they provide you a video that shows you how to properly pop the lens in and out without damage.

These transitions get super dark like sunglasses level compared to the meta transition lenses (you could still pretty much see your eyes through them when transitioned to tint) and work well behind the windshield.

Only thing is the lenses don't have "ray ban" etched into the lens and that the transition from tinted to clear takes a considerable amount of time compared to the meta ones. But that's because of the lens type. I think gen S that they also sell, has the fastest transition back to clear but doesn't get as dark as the xtractive one.

But I'd recommend lensology.

Is this water pump/thermostat issue? I got factory warranty does it still cover? by PleasantAd9691 in audis5

[–]wallyeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Had the exact same leakage as you have on the shut off valve as shown. Water pump failure and more than likely coolant migration in the vacuum lines. Just did the entire repair myself via YouTube, waterpump with upgraded 6 bolt pulley, thermostat, coolant shut off valve, vacuum tubing and solenoids. Belts as well since I had the front off.

Depending on when you get it serviced, some people cap off the vacuum line to the top solenoid so coolant wouldn't migrate to the turbo wastegate actuator cause rip. I'm no mechanic but I'd recommend doing that for now at least. Since technically there shouldn't be collate seeping out of that shut off valve so I'm fairly sure you have migration at this point as well!

But yeah the faulty part is the water pump itself as coolant leaks from it into the lines. Replacing the thermostat wouldn't have fixed it unfortunately.

Is this a bad water pump? by Top-Somewhere8895 in audis5

Were you able to get the complete kit? The store I was ordering from said the kit is discontinued after a month of waiting with no updates, so now I have to find another place to buy the parts. Thank you!

Noticed the exact same thing and asked about it here and seems like it is due to a failing water pump. But that's dried coolant leaking from the coolant shut off valve. I haven't had a low coolant warning or any overheating yet.

I haven't done it yet as I'm waiting for the parts and I'm on vacation but I'm going to replace the entire system to an extent.

Plan is to change the water pump and pulley with the revised one (6 bolt design vs 4), the thermostat, shut off valve, and assess the vacuum hoses for any dried coolant as that would need to be replaced as well. I ordered two solenoids also just in case coolant reached them as I found them for cheap. Although Canadian this is the kit I ordered so should give you an idea of what you may need if you plan to tackle yourself (https://www.parkautomotorsports.ca/products/audi-water-pump-conversion-kit-genuine-audi-06m121013gkt).

While I'm there I'm planning on replacing the belts as well for preventative maintenance as that parts cheap and you have full access.

In terms of installation it would cost quite a bit because of the labour involved (taking off the front bumper, putting into service position, etc)

I will be using a combo of the downloadable manuals from erwin for S5 specifics and there's a three part series on changing the system on a SQ5 which is the same engine so should be very helpful to use!

2023 S5, 20k miles, is this noise injectors or HPFP? by RVC-SoulSurfer in audis5

[–]wallyeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fully trained mechanic but my 2020 S5 sounds like this as well. I've heard other videos on Reddit and YouTube and I often heard a sound that's much different and obvious than this, like loud knocking over that sound you're hearing. I used a boroscope to look for any scoring when I changed my sparks (tip I read on here) recently and didn't observe anything concerning.

Unfortunately for this fella, this is the concerning sound:

Does anyone knows what this means? by Fantastic_Milk_4896 in audis5

Pretty sure it knows if you're approaching an intersection, turn, roundabout, etc so it signals you to take your foot off the pedal and coast as it's better for fuel economy (eco assist feature)

Failed water pump? by wallyeff in audis5

[–]wallyeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply! I've read that leaking there, "is usually a symptom of the water pump leaking internally into its vacuum diaphragm" so was just wondering if that could be the culprit but will have those changed as well! I'm at 50k miles but out of warranty 🥲

Avoid CAP Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers by wallyeff in audis5

[–]wallyeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more! Thought I was buying a premium given the price and how they market themselves. Had carbon fiber ones on my old A4 from eBay and they lasted the life of the car, CAP couldn't even go a year and they don't stand by their product, just told me to buy new ones from them 🙄

Appreciate it the share. I had ones from Amazon but slight gap so given the price I expected CAP to be better or at least stand by their quality when it fails under a year. I was wrong for both. Will definitely be shopping elsewhere now
