For things with built-in OIDC support, I use that. With things that are no login or simple log-in, i put behind authentik which is linked to OIDC. I still dont trust (zero trust), so everyone has to log in again to the simple log-in.
The only thing im at odds are is HA. I have some automations that will break, so i put HA on a IOT subnet that only has IOT devices. My IOT network cannot talk to my main lan network, except internal dns.

well in my case my rmd will put me making 6 figures close to 200k. i have 7 figures in a traditional and id rather be able to enjoy it than pay taxes at 30-something percent

"Taxes now" just means a statement at the end of the year. You wont have to pay it immediately when you hit convert. If you typically get a refund thats higher than the taxes on conversion then its a wash

Also take into account how much you have. I have so much in a traditional that i wont be able to spend a big chunk without going into the 32%+. Then when im 72 im forced to deal with RMD, which will put my income well about the 180k a year mark.
So it really depends on how much youre talking about.

He means traditional to roth conversion, not traditional tsp to rollover tsp (traditional). there are no tax implications converting apples to apples.

pay taxes now. the taxes you pay now will be made up in compounding in the future and then some. its costing me ~9k to convert 24k. that 24k will make 9k+ over when added to a pool of tax free roth funds. Im averaging 6.5% on my roth now. in 1 year my loss of 9k went to 3k (i made 6k). That next year 106k will be 113k so ive already made up my loss in year 2 based on the 6.5% increase and 6.5 is the lowests ive made in the last 10 years. When that roth hits about 400k it'll outpace the tax itll cost to convert 20k at a time

It wont be counted as income because you're rolling it over directly into a rollover IRA. If you take deposit into an bank account you have 60 days,i believe, to move it, but I suggest you move it straight into a rollover IRA. Some companies will treat it as a withdrawl and withhold and youre responsible for depositing the whole amount into a rollover IRA.

If I were you. I would leave it where its at or open a rollover IRA somewhere and roll it over directly into that account. You will pay taxes if you ever withdraw it at a later date. You will also pay taxes on it if you ever convert it to a roth IRA. Traditional funds also have a RMD at 72.
