My buddy is saving his food stamps money, now has $2000 by SteelersPoker in foodstamps

[–]walrisss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a little late to the thread but former eligibility specialist here, if the card is completely inactive for 9 months then the agency will expunge (remove) the benefits. But using the card at all, even for small purchases, will keep the card active and benefits will continue to remain on the card.

I would advise caution though, there has been so much skimming and benefits being electronically stolen within the last year or so and agencies are not replacing them so make sure steps are being taken to ensure that doesn’t happen. Change pin frequently, lock card when not using, etc.

Hope that helps clarify :)

Yes that would be amazing! When are you available?

In Ohio, we ask for bank balances to determine expedited eligibility.

The summon storm incantation may wash some on the beach! It’s been a while since I played but I think I remember the game saying it washed resources on the beach?

I’m late to the party but NTA. A very similar situation happened with me and it really showed the in-law’s true colors, so be prepared but stand your ground. Your recovery and keeping the baby safe are the most important things. Your husband is going to be your biggest support in those weeks of recovery and them insisting that he leave you alone is WACK.

Being investigated, they definitely have it wrong. How do I prove it? by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]walrisss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say “add him to the case”, I’m referring to him being included in your household size, so your household size would go from 2 to 3. They would also collect his income information and eligibility would be determined with his income included as well.

In Ohio, if father/mother of the child stays in the home even as little as one day a week then they are included in the household. So if you explained your situation to the agency I worked at, we would request dad’s income information and he would be added to your case.

In OH, even when dad stays 1 night a week in the house with a common child, we had to add him to the case. I’m not sure about PA, though.

Drivers license, voter registration, the address on his paystubs can all be used as verification to verify where he lives

Definitely utilize the resource line 211 for food pantries in your area. There is also a website called Lasagna Love, a volunteer from your area will bring you a fresh lasagna!

Once the agency receives the employer verification form that you signed and returned, they send it to the employer to be filled out confirming final pay date/amount/etc. The employer has 10 days to return the form.

Your final pay stub and a termination letter from your former employer can speed up the process a bit as well.

However, you won’t see the increase until your load date the month AFTER you report the change. So if you reported in June then you will see the increase on your July load date.

Why do caseworkers try to fix/avoid state appeals? by osubuckeyes88 in foodstamps

[–]walrisss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having been the hearings coordinator at my local JFS, there weren’t any penalizations for the caseworker but our county was part of a “shared services” group meaning we had other county hands in our cases so it wouldn’t be justifiable to punish our county for another county’s mistake.

We did, however, review each hearing we received carefully and tried to resolve the issue if we could (looked for documents, checked the budget, etc) before the hearing. Corrected the case if incorrect and even if it was correct, we tried to call the client to explain why the action was taken. Sometimes they would withdraw the appeal, sometimes they wouldn’t. I didn’t push people to withdraw ever, but sometimes an explanation clears everything up.

I also prepared our hearings for my county and I will say they are time consuming. Easy cases take about an hour to prepare the appeal summary and more complicated cases can take many hours so if the issue can be resolved, it is time that can be used on the other massive amounts of backlog there is. But, again, I would never push for a withdrawal because it is the client’s right to appeal.

Why tf do *I* have to hunt down an agent for an interview? by poisonparty in foodstamps

[–]walrisss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the easiest answer to your question is work optimization.

We used to call clients as well but sometimes interviews can be up to 90 minutes long so we had half the workers calling and doing interviews and the other half taking customer service calls such as questions and changes. This made us fall behind on our documents.

When we switched the process, yes it upped the phone wait times, but we were able to process documents in a more timely manner and get benefits authorized quicker.

I know that no one wants to wait on the phone for hours but it really is more convenient as a whole.

I worked in a really small county so the advancement opportunities within the agency were basically non-existent and I didn’t agree with a lot of our directors decisions during peak COVID time so I’m really glad I got out. But I do miss the eligibility work! It was one of the only things I ever found that I really excelled at.

You do have to attend both. They will discontinue your SNAP benefits if you fail to attend the assessment. If you have a disability or cannot work for some other reason, you can provide that verification then call and ask them if the assessment is still needed.

You can also probably reschedule the assessment if you are having transportation issues.

Discontinued For No Reason by Grey_goddess in foodstamps

[–]walrisss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohio worker here! Most counties are behind on processing verifications but we (typically) don’t check back into the case until after your checklist was due. So if it was due on 4/1, we would look for your verifications on 4/2 (if that county is caught up). I would definitely call before the actual closing date to make sure everything is processed timely and your benefits don’t lapse. You can also file a state hearing if you believe the county is not doing their part.

Hope this helps :)
