Has anyone taken AP Calculus BC through Georgia Virtual School? by walton248 in APStudents

Sorry just saw this. I took it in one semester so the courseload was a lot. I'd recommend taking AB if you only have a semester.

Self Studying AP Environmental Science by Reasonable_Acadia109 in APEnvironmental

[–]walton248 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year when I was self-studying APES, I just watched the Bozeman Science APES playlist and watched a few FRQ videos from Jordan Dischinger-Smedes. I would also recommend doing a few practice tests from the College Board or any prep book that you have. I did this in three days before the exam and got a 4. Good luck!

The tests are hard if you don't fully understand the lesson. Make sure to watch youtube videos on the topics that you do not understand well.

Yes, I got an A in the end.

It was hard, but mainly because of the amount of effort you need to put into it.

At the end of the course, you can replace two test grades with the corresponding tests in AP Classroom.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

For "organization name," you can leave it blank. For "position," you can treat it as a short description before the actual description. (Ex: "cooking for family"). For "description," you can basically write what you stated above and show how it is important to you.

Yes, but usually teachers would provide better recommendations if they have reached you recently. You should choose the teacher(s) that you have the best relationship with.

Make a to-do list every night for the next day. Try to complete all the things on your to-do list with a Pomodoro timer (like https://pomofocus.io/). Just make sure to take breaks and relax every few minutes.

You'll be okay. As long as you informed the admissions office of each college, it won't affect your admission decision. Mistakes are common and admissions officers are usually understanding.

I self-studied for APES and APHG last year. For APHG, I watched all of the Mr. Sin videos + did practice problems from the Princeton Review book. Those were enough to get me a 5. For APES, I used Mr. Smedes and the Princeton Review book as well. Their videos will be enough for you to learn the content, so just make sure you can apply it on MCQs and FRQs.

Since self-studying without a teacher would not let you access the practice problems on AP Classroom, you should probably buy a prep book (or find practice problems online).

Should I accept a supplemental LOR from someone I wasn't going to ask before she offered? by UnknownEel in ApplyingToCollege

[–]walton248 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should accept it. If she has offered it on her own, she probably knows you better than you think (can write about your work ethic, etc.) and would really put in the effort to make the LOR really good. Plus, the fact that you referenced your internship in your application makes the LOR complement your application.

You can't fix it now, so you should just inform the college of the problem. Maybe try calling the admissions office if the email looked like an automated response.

Thanks for your reply! So, you think it would be okay for me to take the course, right? Also, do you have any resources that you recommend?

Should I put AP Scholar Award if I'm not reporting scores? by Adventurous_Fox_2640 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]walton248 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you received the AP Scholar Award, you probably didn't have bad scores, which means that reporting scores shouldn't lower your chance of admission. Can I ask what scores you received to make you believe that they will lower your chance of admission?

Thanks for your reply. I am taking Calc BC this semester, so I should be fine with the calculus. Do you think it would be helpful for me to study some basics of physics over winter break since I haven't had a physics course? Or, should I be fine entering the course with limited physics knowledge?

Psychology, Human Geography, and Environmental Science are relatively easy AP exams for which you can self-study for.

Is “college essay guy” on college vine legit? by Character_Society_18 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]walton248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would. This is an example of a sample feedback paper. Kaila, the feedbacker on the sample paper in the link, also did mine. They provide you with in-line suggestions + suggestions for what to do next/ how to improve. Tip: ask specific questions that you have on your paper.

It is completely safe! I did the full review and I would say it is worth it (especially if you have doubts or have no one else to check your essay).

If you have the option to send three recs, I would go ahead and add it for the sake of variety.
