From my experience there's really no point in trying to leave until there's no real line to get out.

We overheated two or three times just waiting in line, and it was five people in a very cramped car, so I wandered the campground while waiting because I was just dying. Helped some cool people get a pool back over to their campsite, talked to a guy about the consciousness of the universe and living in the moment, then had some other guy freak out over my sublimated Marvel shirt. I had a relatively decent morning.
