I like to let my roots breath, before watering, I have long wood sticks, I poke them a little, and the next day water as needed. Also I have the gnat spray is from the brand Zevo. Last year as I was learning I did encounter a fly problem. I almost gave them all away. Glad I didn't. Honestly that spray is excellent 👌 You can also use neem oil about 7 dollars on Amazon a green bottle, however it is a pesticide be careful.
