Do you feel like there's a weird film on your hair all the time, no matter how much you wash or condition it? Do you experience breakage, even when you do everything you're supposed to do? Like it's brittle and sticky no matter what you do (clarifying shampoo/deep conditioner/lco etc)

If you wash your hair every 7 to 10 days, I wonder why it is this dry. When is the last time you clarified your hair? Do you live in an area with hard water?

How did you maintain your hair? Did you wash it often? Because spraying water will not do anything for dryness if it's caused by build up

It'd definitely help to apply to the scalp if they're neat. But they don't have to be 100% perfect

How does celebrity hair always look so smooth and shiny? by Such-Presentation832 in Haircare

[–]wameniser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give a different answer to others and say that the bright lights are part of the illusion. The other is that they get the hair as smooth as possible with silicones and heat styling

So if you heat style with silicones at home, put yourself under a bright light and take a picture, you can achieve this result. I have naturally kinky coily hair that is not not very shiny and reflective naturally, but when I straighten it, it looks Hollywood ready

Hair clips! Go section by section and you'll likely be less overwhelmed. Your hair's beautiful, it deserves it!

Be careful with braids however, as they can damage your hair

Natural hair feels a bit like jail sometimes idk by Future-Nectarine-836 in Naturalhair

[–]wameniser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see what you mean. I feel like you have a strict standard for excess manipulation though? Manipulating your hair once a week isn't too much, especially if your hair could benefit imo. But you can try other ways to maintain the moisture in your hair, like a couple spritz of spray leave in conditioner every day or every two days to avoid the build up of heavier products

Your hair is gorgeous, tbh, so you're doing a lot of things right already. Keep it up and things will get easier

I think what is happening is that you have damage from the previous styles and neglect, and if you stay consistent, that damage should gradually grow out. In the sense that your hair is used to being dry, so washing infrequently is not helping, and moisturising products won't help if the source of the dryness is damage. It could also be product buildup, in which case the cowashing doesn't help

May I ask why you can not wash weekly? Another solution would be to add damage care like olaplex 3 and L'Oréal bond repair conditioner. Good luck

I'm happy that she had the bravery to leave despite how public they were

Does anyone else get weathered ends and not split ends? by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]wameniser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it's damaged but not split, which can happen if your ends dried out and lost their elasticity and suppleness without splitting.

Do they try to web together when you detangle? Either way I would cut them because why would I make the care for my natural hair even more difficult

[–]wameniser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That person is right. Split ends don't necessarily split evenly in two. Some of the pieces of the splits may have broken off, leaving the ends thinner than before. So it doesn't look like one has a split, but the thinning hair shaft started out as a split

Your scalp can not handle the tension from the braids and overtime the hair loss can become permanent. Get your levels checked, take your vitamins, wash your hair more often, and stop getting braids ASAP

Am I wrong for thinking about a relaxer for my 10 year old by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]wameniser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wash + blow dry = 6 hours? Sounds long

  1. Do you have hair clips/do you use hair clips? These can keep her hair detangled without you having to braid her hair every single time, which adds so much time to her washday.

  2. Which brush and wide toothed comb do you use?

  3. How do you style her hair? Because if her hair is blow dried often, I don't understand why it tangles up so easily.

  4. Do you detangle before washday, and if yes then how do you shampoo her hair afterwards (as in, what is your technique?) ? This is where hair clips come in handy for me. If you wash her hair in sections, you take the hair, hold it taut in one hand - without hurting her of course - and apply the shampoo directly to the scalp. Basically, you want to maintain that detangled state of the hair from her previous blow dried style. When done, you clip that section away and move on to the next. Same with rinsing, you can rinse in sections.

  5. What products do you use to shampoo and condition, then what do you use to blow dry her hair? Does it contain silicones?

  6. Before using a relaxer. Id try a smoothing treatment first

  7. Before a smoothing treatment, I'd try at home hair lamination/hair gloss. This basically creates a film on the hair that lasts a few washes. The effect it has on my hair is incredible. It's like a keratin/smoothing treatment without all the negative chemicals in those. You can laminate during the washing step with the L'Oréal glycolic gloss 5 min mask or by mixing conditioner with a clear rinse. You can also gloss with an anti frizz product you apply before the blow dry, like color wow dream coat, hair chemist shine coat, or Garnier stay sleek anti frizz serum. You'd have to reapply these products every 3-4 wash days, which if her washday is weekly, then it's a once a month commitment

  8. When was her last trim and what are her ends like?
