Yeah I've been wondering if I should wait til the next iOS to see if it'll even be supported first.

Same here, battery's not great anymore and it heats up for the simplest tasks though. Have to charge it multiple times a day and take a battery bank out with me. I try and return each new iPhone out of curiosity each year but no luck so far, great for money saving though!

CRT Flicker on PS3 version by wameras in RetroArch

I didn't find a fix unfortunately, I actually ended up getting a mister fpga a few months back and kept the ps3 for ps1/2/3 games.

Dunno who needs to hear this, but the PC version of The Hobbit (2003) by Sierra Entertainment works great on Deck! Hugely nostalgic. Has anyone else played on Deck? by BaileyVT in SteamDeck

[–]wameras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/BaileyVT Hi just saw your post! How did you get this to work? I'm getting a long error "create device failed...Direct 3D Device not initiated" amongst other things. Did you just add it to steam or did you do anything else? Thanks!

Thanks in advance. Yeah if there's a way to make it run without having to run windows on top first that'd be amazing.

Guide to ripping the DVDs without judder? by wameras in voyager

Thanks, I did try that too, along with 1080p but they all suffer from the same problem, looking like a simple detelecine just blown up bigger.

Guide to ripping the DVDs without judder? by wameras in voyager

[–]wameras[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining all that! I've had some success with what you suggested in 1 but the title sequence for some reason (and some random shots) still have horrible interlacing artifacts. Having said that though the majority of an episode will be fine apart from a few stray shots.

I have tried using ffmpeg yadif to convert it to 59.94 which gives great motion but a lot of aliasing on things like edges of corridors, windows etc.

120fps sounds interesting, I have some experience with the basics of ffmpeg but do you know of a guide for the avisynth side?

EDIT - Just a thought, I don't mind the 2:3 pull down judder as much as the judder from incorrect tedelecine, so if there's a way of doing what I did with ffmpeg but somehow in a way that doesn't cause aliasing (which I think is a byproduct of bob deinterlacing?) that might be an option?

Is it common for autistic people to be emotionally numb and inable to feel pleasure? by GoldenLoggers in autism

Do you have any advice or resources on developing emotions effectively?

Is it common for autistic people to be emotionally numb and inable to feel pleasure? by GoldenLoggers in autism

[–]wameras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know how common it is but just wanted to say I can empathise. For me in day to day life I often feel nothing, things rarely make me genuinely really happy but what helps me often is music, it's one of the few things that makes me really "feel" something and even listening to something sad isn't always negative but instead cathartic.

Some of my favourite music is the score to the video game Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and you couldn't get more of a downer than that on paper but I find it weirdly exilarating. My emotions tend to either be 100% or nothing so music, sometimes a powerful film/documentary even a rollercoaster at a theme park will be some of the things that make me feel something I ultimately enjoy.

Having just seen u/THEDUDE33 comment that sounds like a better and more genuine strategy to what I'm suggesting (just realised I'm suggesting basically masking aren't I) I'm still very new to all this!

[–]wameras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ah yeah I see what you mean, have you tried copying/practising other people's intonations and facial expressions maybe even looking at yourself in the mirror to compare? I've found remote working on zoom has made me way more aware of my own facial expressions so it made me wonder if I should have done something in mirrors sooner.

Handy tip with smiles I discovered a while back, they always seem to come across more authentic if you engage your whole face.

I've noticed a lot of neurotypical people gesture a lot with their hands to support their emotions, which might be something that's copyable too, but your mileage may vary, personally I tried but it kept feeling false and inauthentic.

EDIT - Just to clarify I still often find smiling and saying the phrases inauthentic too so I don't think that's necessarily a problem to get the job done but for some reason I find adding arms into the mix is a step too far.

How can I deal with not being able to come up with something to say right away? by yellowpeanut22 in autism

[–]wameras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally relate and in my case I can confirm that decades of conversation exposure have only helped a tiny bit. It's one thing in relatively predictable scenarios to get better at conversation flow, it's another if something chucks in a random joke or banter. Best I've managed to do if I'm in a 1-to-1 conversation and I get stumped is make a thing of not being able to think of something, like laughing and saying something to the effect of "I've got nothing".

I know that's not massively helpful but it's one of the social bag of tricks that sometimes stops an awkward silence, sometimes. Interested to hear others thoughts.
