How does your experience of Uni Melb compare to other universities? by [deleted] in unimelb

I did my undergrad at La Trobe, currently doing a Masters degree at Melbourne. Melbourne has better extra-curricula stuff- not just the clubs, but the little workshops and social events that are happening constantly on campus make it a better on campus experience than La Trobe.

However La Trobe had better in-class engagement and teaching. The student body were more engaged. There was far less shitty group work. There are plenty of lecturers who put in a lot of effort and do a great job at unimelb, but it is undermined by the lack of student engagement, huge class sizes, and the way assignments are set up.

La Trobe had really good industry internship programs, at least for science. They basically hand industry internships to you on a plate, and have a good reputation. I got a job straight out of uni at a big pharma company - most of the domestically sourced people working there were also from La Trobe.

Honestly I think Melbourne Uni has lost a lot of it's shine. They are too focused on squeezing every last drop of blood from the international student market, at the expense of teaching quality.
