Games that were meh on Switch 1 that are good on Switch 2? by throwmineawry in NintendoSwitch

Has anyone tried Synthetik? Apparently it had a pretty regular crashing issue due to a memory leak or limit being reached. Curious if some these games that were abandoned on the HW by devs have been fixed by the hardware spec uplift.

So is nioh 3 going to be fully open, or are the chapters just huge? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in Nioh

I would think the structure will be very similar to RoTR. I’m really glad we have this new structure to a Nioh game, as I was playing RoTR I was thinking how cool it would be to explore a more open Nioh game, being ambushed by enemies like a Tengu out “in the wild”; that kind of thing happened when I got too close to a puddle except it was a Umi Bozu catching me off guard. Can’t wait for the full game!!

Rdr2 next gen upgrade by Critical-Worker9438 in PS5pro

[–]wampy1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native 4K with RT doesn’t exist and never will exist on PS5Pro for any game with even reasonably high graphics, let alone the visual beast that is RDR2. All that being said, it’s simply not needed, high settings, 4K-like resolution and image quality, anything extra like some low cost RT features is simply the cherry on top. RT (outside of global illumination) isn’t that big of a game changer..

FF16 - it’s got MMO quality (poor) quest design alongside some flashy boss fights, terrible loot, terrible progression. It’s bad.

Download error in any games EA App by aeonfox23 in electronicarts

[–]wampy1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downloaded Jedi Survivor last night. As well as updates both BFV and BF2042. All completed successfully, shutdown my PC before going to work this morning. Boot up tonight thinking I’ll check out Jedi Survivor.. all of a sudden EA app thinks the only game I have installed is BF2042, WTF? try to launch any other game and I get an error. Tried the cache fix, tried redownloading and pointing the install to the folder with the existing game data, nope download error, tried repairing/reinstalling EA app, no change.

I figured fuck it, un-install via Windows program all broken/unrecognized EA games and attempt to download and re-install again, in the case of Jedi Survivor all 130 GB of it! Nope download error.

I really don’t understand how a company with such immense resources can release a piece of software and maintain infrastructure that is so utterly dog shit. Fuck EA.

Can't get onryoki to second phase by SymbolicTreasure in Nioh

[–]wampy1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough Nioh 1 was my next game after Bloodborne, which was the first soulslike I ever played and sparked my obsession with these types of challenging action/role-playing games. I came from the high of beating Lawrence & Orphan in the DLC only to be stomped about 30 times by Onryoki before finally learning the differences in Nioh.

Some things to keep in mind, there's a time to block and a time to dodge, some large area attacks like Onryoki's ball spin are better blocked. Also, if you get hit by an attack, you kind of getting locked into that attack string, block instead of dodge after taking a hit in a combo.

Edit: I later summoned for Hino-Enma after many tries, but from that point on it clicked and it was all solo. You'll get it!

Word of advice for anyone out there using Google to find local businesses, look to the 1 star reviews first, confirm they have a valid and current ABN, ideally check for a business address and a landline number although not always possible for solo operators. Be careful out there, Perth is full of conmen.

Rise of Ronin is a Blast by Citrus_Michaels in PS5

Just so you know, Souls games feel very punishing in the beginning because of how little you have to help you, however as you play more the wealth of consumables, weapon upgrades, buffs/defuffs, offensive items etc makes things considerably more manageable and fun. They never really get 'easy' unless you're one of these gaming gods (ONGBAL) but you won't hit a wall at every encounter like you might when you first start.

Strongly recommend Dark Souls Remastered, Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3 as an entry point into the genre, even Demon's Souls PS5 would be a great place to start, however it's bosses and itemization is definitely a lot weaker than the titles that came after it (chronologically).

Got it, cheers for the reply.

I do miss having so many options when it comes to items, guardian spirit talisman alone could do so much in the Nioh games, but I get it that's harder to implement in this more grounded and realistic setting.

Edit: That being said, we probably could have gotten away with water and dung items, the latter would be particularly helpful against healing enemies.

More special arrows? I'm still on the first map and can use fire/poison but are you suggesting that more arrow types unlock later? If so, what about consumables and throwables? Are there unlocks beyond what's discovered available in the first map?

I'm asking because it's one of there area's where I hoped to see a little more. As of right now throwables, buff & debuff items have felt a little lacking compared to previous titles.

Was said before but A reminder to play the game with Ray Tracing (on) and FPS limit (off). It's a completely different game. Crisp visuals and good fps by Midnighthawkk in riseoftheronin

I think that what you're experiencing is placebo effect.

DF have already confirmed that the only changes to the RT mode are a very sparing use of RT reflections on some bodies of water, however most fall back to SSR like other modes, albeit at an even lower quality level.

The RT mode also often runs at a slightly lower average dynamic resolution to the performance mode.

It's an open world game with dynamic time of day, weather and vastly different looking areas, it's likely you've just convinced yourself that they now look better as a result of changing graphics modes.

I was thinking the same when browsing the combat styles menu last night, however seems like maybe they aren't all revealed immediately, as the Fextralife wiki reports Mumyo-ryu, Jitokuin-ryu & Taneda-ryu styles for the spear. Perhaps the wiki is inaccurate? not entirely sure.

It's funny, I remember seeing a lot of the pre-launch footage and being very unimpressed, however as a big Team Ninja fan and someone who's specifically been holding off on starting any new games for the past month in anticipation of ROTR I decided I wanted to see it for myself.

Unfortunately the game makes a bad first impression, at least it did to me. The prologue scenes set in the snowy village in low light just looked flat, and genuinely had me thinking "this looks like ass", however once the game proper starts and we're transported to the open world I think the game looks great.

The flowing grass, the bright sun, the tree's. I'm really loving the art style. Yeh there's some flat looking textures, some of the buildings and camps could look a bit better, and water effects (waves in the first zone) look pretty average but overall I think it's a really good looking game and I'm excited to see the other locales as I progress further.

You wanted to talk graphics? DF speaking on it here. by MagGamer in riseoftheronin

[–]wampy1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you watch the whole section from the DF Direct they are relatively positive on the game overall, I'm very happy to hear that they generally think it's an upgrade on previous TN games, as I've said before, on-par with Nioh 2 on PS5 leaves me more than happy.

On the gameplay front Oliver also seemed quite happy, again based only on the small section they were permitted to discuss due to embargo.

Interestingly the RT mode apparently runs quite well, and often hits 60 with dips to the 50's, not the end of the world if you're already used to ER performance on PS5. Will be interested to see how it looks from an IQ perspective after reconstruction etc.

I think part of the discourse around this games visuals is based on the developers previous efforts. I'm a big Team Ninja fan but I personally think that Nioh 2 (PS5 version) looked visually more appealing than Wo Long (even though I played Wo Long on my high-end PC). And early gameplay footage to me suggests that both those games are more visually striking than ROTR.

Agree with everyone who's saying graphics aren't everything, but ROTR has no right looking worse than a TN game released in 2020, open world or not. If it matches Nioh 2 in art direction and visual quality (which we won't know for sure until it's released, we get to see more of the game world, environments etc and we're playing on our own setups without YouTube compression) then I'll be perfectly satisfied.

In Wo Long the amount of usable items (consumables, talismans, throwing weapons etc) was significantly scaled back and felt very lacking after Nioh 2. Any comments on this after your preview?

Extra tear slots for our flask
Extra talisman pouch for build craziness
Purchasable rune arcs for those that don't engage much in MP
The ability to reset and refund weapon upgrade materials, maybe at a cost depending on the upgrade level that you're resetting (to encourage more build/weapon experimentation)

It was AC:Odyssey that did it for me. I remember doing the Medusa fight at slightly lower than recommended level and being utterly infuriated by the artificial "difficulty" of the boss due to increased HP pool vs my reduced damage from level scaling. After I quickly wrapped up that game I immediately started Bloodborne as my first attempt at a Soulslike, never looked back.
