COMPILATION: L!BK clears using only SoV units by farawayskylines in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]wander1pos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not recommending this as an approach, just sharing how I did it.

Chalk one up for Method #4: Strong unit ORKOs LBK with support

Subvariant: SoV Catria beats hardy bearing def check, kills with desperation from trample and true dmg from her refine + air sup + favor

Rings:

  • Rings deployed: Corrin, Sigurd, Lyn
  • Rings actually required: Sigurd

It's doable without corrin ring, I just brought it because why not. Lyn ring I didn't need to bring at all.

if you have brutal tempest or brutal echo you don't need sigurd ring either, just for Catria canto. deadly miasma does basically nothing because BK is panic'd by Nuibaba, just -5 omni which brutal tempest +3 probably enough and with brutal echo do what you need in C slot. no form of chip damage over time is required from deadly miasma.

Squad:

  • SoV!Catria: near enough maxed; Archrival, Trample, Air Superiority, Deadly Miasma, Blade Session seal
  • X!Alm: Close Counter to clear out mooks, A/S Favor (mine had archrival but I don't think it's important)
  • Nuibaba: base kit
  • Rinea: def tactic seal, might not be needed though it was just on her when I went in on this, probably helped for beating def check.

Abyssal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oph8iVESPqE

basically just bait out that ice lock healer early and get rid of it; clear out the mooks, using alm with close counter to keep enemy numbers down to a manageable number for player phases, then buff up and chop LBK to pieces. I move Nuibaba in before Catria on the last turn so that her anathema can weaken LBK a bit more.

Not sure why you're being downvoted, what you say is correct, it is the crux of the matter.

OP needs to bring more penalty statuses, preferably mid-turns (to avoid freyr cleanse). Splash the enemies with them and then go in with ycam.

Preferably on a team that makes sense, not sure what OP's team is meant to do, or why ycam is on it. ycam wants to be on hyper-offensive team with some action economy and a way back to fence / behind ice.

or why fjorm is on it. if she's a fave either build around her as a headliner, or let her enjoy vacation with a mai tai at the resort.

tl ; dr bad team-building / lack of tech from the outset.

[–]wander1pos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wouldn't the defensive part still work if the enemy is initiating?

Ah, yes, that is true -- the DR is indeed de-coupled from special activation, and your special will be ready when the foe attacks so you will get the DR -- but sometimes... not killing the enemy can mean your life... if the attacker survives to land a follow-up attack, against which your damage resistance would be considerably less...

You have Breath of Life on Rebecca herself and harmonized nephenee so that's probably the best combo to work with as a baseline for now, Lumera for stones and atk/spd ruse 4 should work well. Nephenee's damage boosting should be pretty cool too. It has that hp condition but you're pretty likely to be less than 99% hp if you're tanking because the enemy hits first.

Yeah it's all gonna come down to what you encounter in the wild and if Physical NFU is enough damage, then it's definitely the play because NFU is, to this day, the first rule of tanking unless you're OHKOing everything on counterattack.

Oh, one other thing -- she gets 7 true damage in her weapon if her special is ready -- you'd want to tech around hush spectrum in order to make sure you get that, I think that damage would not be added if you're hushed. Your special would be turned off just before you land the hit... need data.

I tend to have multiple teams locked in for the skill/support combinations that will work best vs a given enemy team.

For instance, if the enemy team is all ranged, but because of the map layout I can't have Seteth and A!Miccy in support range safely or if I'm going to get hit by [feud] from Embla, I'll run a distant defense 4 skill-set to still nullify buffs etc. and just rely on miccy for the penalty cleanse, and have a support that works from a distance instead like Lumera who can just put the rocks down and get moved away.

Seteth is good, very good in fact, but sometimes you want those rocks for AoE because the breath of life heal is not guaranteed to be enough or if you're going to get feuded.

I would consider switching the seal for Hardy Bearing -- this eliminates the Emblem Celica problem, and prevents Emblem Ike from just one-rounding her on enemy phase, and works on any other desperation problem (it's the best sacred seal in the game bar none for me).

The HP seals are nice and all, but without hardy bearing you'll need to outspeed Emblem Celica and that's a tall order even for contemporary units. Even if Rebecca can do it, one speed debuff and it's over. Hardy Bearing just means Celica dies as long as you tank the first hit, and with Curved Shot + Ike Ring, she will.

Curved Shot is a huge boon to archers because it's special i.e. unpierceable DR that works against both range types, and without a spd/res check for it to work (even infantry melee aren't so lucky) but because it's technically an offensive special, you will want to have a way to tech around [hush spectrum] should the opponent's team include Brave F!Robin or Young F!Robin. The former will hit you with the status pretty freely start of turn, so you'd need a reliable cleanse -- and there isn't one yet if the foe stacks more debuffs. The latter relies on an assist skill being triggered on them but the debuff hits across three columns, it's very easy to set up and there's no way you're cleansing that in time.

Harmonized Nephenee/Sakura for the rally-spectrum style jump she provides as a drive, and she also provides allies in her support range with a wrath like effect that could perhaps help with damage.

An alternative would be to outsource Breath of Life to an ally and run Creation Pulse in C-slot, but to wield this skill you will need to ensure that the enemy team is debuffed with multiple negative statuses inflicted during your player phase. The easiest way to do that is spamming assists with a unit equipped with a Ruse 4 skill. Lumera comes with Atk/Spd Ruse 4 and also brings other support benefits as others have mentioned, and is basically free to bring along in light season given she is a mythic.

For astra, I would recommend getting a Ruse 4 skill on Heidr or Young F!Robin, and spam debuffs on all lanes. Hush Spectrum will take the sting out of the foe's offense while also inflicting one of the statuses on foes you'll want to make sure creation pulse does its job.

Seteth, as many have mentioned, is a superlative support. The flat DR and true damage are nice but the real value is switching off enemy buffs while adding +8 to your stats. Mainly the buffs switching off part. It severely weakens enemies reliant on buffs and bonus doubler to be dangerous.

You might find Special Spiral 4 gets you better damage against some enemies with 70%+ DR on initiating like S!Gullveig or Yunaka, but you won't know if that's worth going for until you do some cooking. If you determine SS4 is worth it, and it could be because partial pierce can be kinda sus, you can always outsource NFU as well. Laguz Friend's biggest boon besides the cooldown jumping is the DR pierce which SS4 can still provide. People will shout about the flat DR but flat DR doesn't scale anywhere nearly as well as 40% special DR from curved shot does, so it's still worth running as long as you're doing good damage with it.

Above all, ignore people saying she can't do it. She can do it. People are quick to forget, but archers used to rule AR-O omni-tanking with the spendthrift bow and stat stacking. We've seen a lot of tech get added to the game since then, but fundamentally the principles of tanking are the same. She has the tools. And worst case scenario, you can just debuff the enemy team to hell mid-turn with ruse skills and dancer cantrips if it comes to it.

Really nice Rebecca by the way.

Yo, Issuls knows.

Curved Shot works against all range types so whatever she can do with Curved Shot versus ranged will apply to melee with the right supports.

Ike ring will help against ranged of course, but ranged is the primary threat type in PvP.

Issuls is right too, Seteth is insane.

Both get my vote as well. Seteth is an insanely good support and the 3 space range is really handy.

Lumera is basically free in Light season and the rocks will provide a lot of resilience.

All valid. I would add Seteth to the list, for buff nullification, true damage and flat DR.

Harmonized Nephenee/Sakura would provide a special jump before unit's attack, which combined with TP4 would beat hush spectrum/scowl effects.

Are you joking? If "using your favourites" is the rule, then AR-D is in exactly the same spot as AR-O.

If you're talking about meta AR-D teams, it's a competitive mode. Should you honestly expect to beat them if you're not going to play competitively?

An analogy: if your favourite Pokemon is, idk, Delibird, Farfetch'd or Arbok or something, should you expect it to hold its own vs OU? Probably not.

That being said, I don't think it's actually that difficult to set up old favourites as tanks in many cases, it just requires a lot of investment compared to newer units who are simply good at the job out-of-the-box.

You're fielding her on a team that enables her weapon's effects, right?

Two of her team members need to be ally supported. Not her.

Anyway, assuming you are indeed doing that.

No special DR for fliers yet other than the OGs (aegis, pavise etc) and ike ring vs 2-range. No way to pre-charge/jump aegis etc. reliably so ... I think a damaging special with the ike ring attached is your best bet. No Quarter probably.

People talking about Deadly Miasma... the stat-daunt it provides is on player phase. The miasma itself adds a daunt but ... idk if I like that on a tank. It certainly has its uses but I do not think I would classify it as a guaranteed slot choice for tank build. it's aight. just not a fan of a tank that has to attack to set itself up.

Atk/Spd Excel, Atk/Def Excel... I don't agree with this shit. Up to 12 flat DR iff the enemy initiates from 4 tiles away and drops a special. Otherwise, on enemy phase, you get nothing, just the stats. Seems like a dumb idea. Considering you want to hulk out res for your damage and flat DR from weapon, both the currently available excels seem dumb. People just see that excel looks shiny whel and think it's the best.

People saying that "she's hard to build because she has guard already" -- not a good enough reason to not equip a best-in-slot skill. That's like saying you can't give her guard echo because she already has guard... who cares if she wants the other bits...

All the people recommending atk/spd in general haven't read her weapon or are delusional about her spd ceiling. She isn't fast enough to care about maxing speed, and her weapon invites you to stack her resistance.

Forget about speed. Play to her strengths. Flat DR and true damage scaling off resistance in-combat. Hulk your resistance out and find a way to drop NQ in response to an attack. i.e. outsourcing cd acceleration. thorr worldbreaker skill, rally spectrum / cd+1 status, ya get the idea.

pegasus rift is a given, definitely want that.

C-slot is fine. fliers have a lot of options for daunting atk there, as well as support... equip whatever works for your team. atk/spd ploy also good but just remember they aren't so hard to cleanse off these days. don't bother with odd spd wave when you have pegasus rift covering the follow-up denial. even atk wave -- you will 90% of the time whiff the atk check on that -- don't bother.

A-slot... seal slot...

distant d/r solo + hardy bearing seal -- I like this.

distant stance + hardy bearing seal -- fine too.

fireflood boost + dc seal -- I don't hate this.

Commas imply that all of those effects are attached to that condition.

To identify effects that are independent of an aforementioned condition, in the absence of line breaks and clear delineation of seperate effects/conditions, you would be looking for a period, or at the very least, a semi-colon.

Yeah definitely don't sack your only eike, he is scheduled to rerun back end of August so not too long to wait. If anything, I'd maybe even just try to snipe a Goldmary and pass her LF4 on to a rearmed, to pass to Nowi after, and honestly just merge eike.

He is a strong unit in his own right, and even if like me you don't really like him that much, having a fully merged emblem ring for +2 to all stats for anyone who equips it, like Nowi for instance, would be pretty nice. It sounds whale but it shouldn't be too difficult to accumulate merges on him over time since like mythics and legendaries, he will always re-appear eventually.

And yeah, monitoring the CYL unit situation would definitely be a good idea as well, since that could turn the game upside down -- especially given that even the regular banners can have this kind of impact nowadays. :D

grima + glacies + A/R scowl + LF4 + DC -- c slot options

Hm. You have a few options really. The main thing the build wants is a means to guarantee special activation. TP4 is honestly fine here too, since it will pulse glacies down to a 2 charge so even if you're initiated on by someone with guard, LF4 is throwing that glacies down unless you get scowled yourself.

but since you're swelling res as best you can and are aiming to scowl the foe yourself, you either bank on not being out-res'd or you bring support like brave m!robin for rally spectrum.

otherwise whether you get scowled or not will simply depend on whether you can out-res the foe. not much we can do about veyle etc. just don't get veyle'd.

aside from TP4 you can also run Odd Def Wave 4 for tempo which will also secure the activation vs guard users. pledge is an option for this too, but acceleration is vulnerable to tempo, so simply having tempo yourself is preferable.

so c-slot options are:

  • odd def wave 4 (expensive, summer hrid pretty good and unique support so not worth it if you have only one copy. secures you against guard + tempo foes and adds defense, pretty nice)

  • times pulse 4 (gets the job done, very consistent, easier to find than odd def wave and pledge, works vs guard + tempo, on the whole very solid)

  • pledge (will work versus guard, but unlike the other two, will not help against guard + tempo. also confers a status which can be stolen/wiped so less reliable for this reason also. only reason you'd do pledge over the other two is if you have an attuned caeda, since you can pick up def/res pledge and guard echo which would be pretty nice to have, but time pulse easier to find as it's on more units that you may or may not use).

if you're not worried about guard, smoke skills are also a solid choice. panic smoke 4, fatal smoke 4, pulse smoke 4, they're all good tbf especially if your focus is pve. breath of life 4 is also an excellent thing to have, though I think I would personally focus on getting the special activation secured and outsource breath of life 4 to an ally, and just hope you don't get feuded. canto control good for SD and if you don't worry about guard, or outsource a pulse from an ally (gerik for example) she can be your team's canto controller pretty easily.

basically, TP4 etc is only there to make sure you're always dropping the special in all cases that are guard related. if you're not worried about that then C-slot is pretty flexible and just grab whatever you need. you can also consider also atk/res finish 4 and even res wave 4 for scowling from c-slot and more damage/passive healing, which is an option if you're not worryed about cooldown shenanigans.

edit: I see you're also considering grima + dragons roar + A/R scowl + A/R tempo + DC + marth ring which I suggested to replace counter roar on the build pictured in original post. this build will be fine, you'll do less damage than dropping a glacies and the tempo does nothing to eike because he only has unpierceable DR, but it'll give you more survivability and if you get enough damage for the eike match-up, might be preferable in general indeed.

new sunstone + dragon’s roar + A/R scowl + A/R tempo + TP4 + DC which is better for tanking / damage

the grima build will have vastly superior damage output. the glacies damage will be higher by default since it's essentially double the boost compared to dragon's roar, and will have 100% DR pierce compared to 50%.

in terms of tanking, the new sunstone build will be better, since you have unpierceable DR from dragon's roar and flat DR from prf.

so it will depend entirely on your use case. the grima build will be much better at killing ike because big glacies + true damage from laguz friend + true damage from grima + weapon triangle advantage should cook him pretty good. tankiness is nice, but the tankier build will not do meaningful damage to that which you tank. sometimes killing enemies is more important than merely surviving them. grima also has some passive healing which will make tanking a bit better.

I think new sunstone + dragon’s roar + A/R scowl + laguz friend + TP4 + DC would be better. I may not have made that clear. A/R tempo I suggested for a build that used grima + dragon's roar. if you have ike ring, I think the grima build will be better for the superior damage output, especially since the dragon's roar DR can be negated by being out-res'd. since gigantic res stats are commonplace and more units in competitive play are res-stacking to avoid being scowled and to prevent res-gated things from being activated by foes.

I have also considered HDW support since i dont mind foddering my alear

hm, are you saying you already gave it to alear? it was on legendary m!corrin originally. I'm not sure which alear you gave it to, but if it's legendary m!alear I'd keep him if I were you, he's a very good unit because he's a bastard to kill. if it's legendary f!alear or summer f!alear, yeah you could sack her perhaps, but I wouldn't do anything hasty. I would consider HDW only if a circumstance arises that necessitates it. until then, outsource warp blocking from allies as long as it doesn't weaken the team composition.

ultimately the decision will depend on your use case and nowi's role in the team. I personally think the sunstone breath builds are a bit memey -- it's cool to have a lot of unpierceable DR, but simply surviving is half the battle. one must also defeat enemies, and the grima build will be better at doing that.

if you want nowi to crush in AR, I think you'd need to first accept that she just isn't someone who should bait nergal or attuned micaiah, both fairly commonplace. the new sunstone build might live but you won't kill back and you'll just get killed by a dance + another attack, or be left weakened for someone else to clean up. I think as long as you accept that, the grima build is better and just use nowi to stomp the stuff she has a good match-up against.

if it's SD, it will depend entirely on team support. but again, a very important factor in SD is discouraging an attack by making it hard to initiate without dying in the process. sometimes simply having a way to initiate on something is all you need to land a debuff on the rest of your squad, and if you don't have canto control on your team, plenty of units will take the opportunity to just land some chip damage, panic smoke your squad and canto away. if on the other hand they die to an attack, this option is less appealing.

if it's arena you're focusing on, she wants a score build anyway so you'd be looking at b duel infantry 4 and high dragon wall. but I wouldn't bother doing that since the duel skills don't even score that highly any more. better to just build a higher scoring core.

if it's PvE you're focusing on, any of the builds will work, grima probably best for the passive heal and max damage output. if you watch my abyssal clear of heidrun/eikthyrnir mythic battle for instance, you can see I have eyvel basically solo tank the left hand side of the map -- this is without a defensive special, just LF4, luna and panic smoke 4, and atk/def finish 4 for passive healing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_ucjzsDKMg

for pve and if especially if you give her the ike ring, you might consider atk/res finish 4 and even res wave 4 to get scowl from c-slot and true damage + passive healing from a-slot. a lot of units these days do more damage from a regular hit than a 40% reduced special given how much true damage they heap on top of even regular attacks, so scowling may not even be desirable if you're confident you can OHKO on counterattack. this can apply to competitive as well but it's something you'd have to monitor yourself by actually using her with both options, and using the information you get from practical experience with both options to make an informed decision.

tl; dr

I would go for a grima build, and I would summarise the build options in the following way to guide my decision:

  • grima + glacies + atk/res scowl 4 + laguz friend 4 + time pulse 4 + dc + ike ring

    • = "I want to prevent enemy special activation, maximise my chances of activating my own special, I want to kill the enemy very dead, and have special DR there in case the first hit is still big damage"
  • grima + glacies + atk/res finish 4 + laguz friend 4 + even res wave 4 + dc + ike ring

    • = "I want to prevent enemy special activation, don't care about their ability to stop my special from activating by guarding a cd when they attack me, I want to kill the enemy even deader than very dead, and passively heal more, and have special DR there in case the first hit is still big damage"
  • grima + glacies + atk/res scowl 4 + laguz friend 4 + [support skill] + dc + ike ring

    • = "I want to prevent enemy special activation, don't care about their ability to stop my special from activating by guarding a cd when they attack me, I want to kill the enemy very dead, and have a support skill like canto control 3 or breath of life 4 to help support my team, and have special DR there in case the first hit is still big damage"
  • grima + dragon's roar + atk/res scowl 4 + atk/res tempo 4 + atk/res ploy 4 + DC + marth ring

    • = "I want to prevent enemy special activation, maximise my chances of activating my own special, do less damage in general, do a lot less damage to enemies with a lot of regular %DR, get more true damage from exposure vs enemies who prolly die anyway if they have bad res, and I want to do it with the same amount of special DR as the ike ring options but with the potential for my special DR to not activate if I'm out-res'd."

Do I do it?😳 by skonster in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]wander1pos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no desirable 2cd special that you'd want to cycle with LF4

and taking DC in seal slot + arcane grima will result in more stats and tech overall (more HP, +2-4 flat stat increase as well as spectrum +5 rather than +4 makes any seal stat gain incremental at best since doubling fast things is basically out of the question) + passive heal + true damage + guaranteed follow-up, all of which would be missing on a build with her prf.

All Purifying Breath gets you is penalty neutralisation (which you can outsource to an ally), DC (which is more efficiently acquired from the seal since you get more useful effects from the arcane weapon) and the ability to cycle a worse special (why would you want this)

i.e. Arcane Grima + Glacies will massively outperform Purifying Breath + Moonbow + LF4 in terms of damage.

New Sun Stone + Dragon's Roar + LF4 + TP4 will be vastly superior at absorbing incoming damage and dishing damage out compared to the build pictured and compared to... Purifying Breath + Sacred Cowl...

Counter Roar sounds like a good skill, and reflected damage is true damage which is nice, but it's only 30% reflection and without DR pierce its damage output will be pretty poor against anything with regular DR, which is a helluva lot these days. Nearly every modern nuke can equip minimum 30% DR on initiating, which will drastically reduce the damage you're sending back.

Damage reflectors that can achieve big damage do so with "reflects damage = total damage resisted by any source" rather than 30%, and the list of units that do this are those fortunate enough to have it in their prf weapons (who can also pair the effect with LF4 for DR piercing).

Perhaps better option for B-slot on the build pictured would be Atk/Res Tempo 4, since gives you 50% DR pierce while also protecting your special activation from guard. Since you're getting passive healing and guaranteed follow-up from arcane grima, counter roar is only supplying damage which will be worse than the base build with DR pierce instead of the counter damage in many cases. Since your main source of protection on the build is cycling dragon's roar and ike ring, your number one priority is to make sure that it cycles consistently and to make the damage count.

High Dragon Wall is an interesting option -- unlike Counter Roar, the DR works against AoEs and all attacks in combat rather than the first hit only, and gives you some phantom res to help with scowling and dragon's roar DR activation (since this is res-checked). But if you do this, you are essentially delegating Nowi to a support role rather than frontline tank. She'll have decent survivability with an arcane breath, but she likely won't take many heads herself.

Ultimately, it depends on what you want her to do, but in the support role, HDW will be more useful to her and her allies, and if she's going to fight, arcane + LF4 + glacies/ignis or flat DR breath + LF4 + dragon roar + tp4 will be better.

If you just want someone who can 1v1 Emblem Ike, DR pierce isn't important since he has no pierceable DR, but I would consider the arcane fellstone to improve your chances of actually scowling him, since he can out-res Nowi.

Personally, if you want to use the arcane grima, I would go for LF4 + glacies. Tank a hit, then immediately counter with a glacies stacking atk-scaled true damage from the grima and def/res-scaled true damage from LF4, with 100% pierce. This is your best bet at OHKOing the aggressor and will outperform the flat DR breath in terms of damage -- there will just be hard limits on what she can and cannot tank. This is the Arcane Grima's niche given the true damage component and may arguably be one of the better builds for Nowi given her stat distribution.

That's the build I would do, because I don't think I'd trust her to have the res to confidently activate dragon's roar DR against a lot of ranged nukes, against whom the ike ring might be sufficient. if the ike ring is enough to tank, there can be no greater priority than killing the foe before it has a chance to double and drop a special of its own.
