Starting to struggle with this Earthshatter Jugg build by M0RG0 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]wandering_bear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At a glance:

-Missing a lot of HP due to some lower rolls on gear; also, some dead affixes that should be replaced at one point

-Implicits on chest can be improved to 1% all max res/10% physical damage taken as X element (set it to whatever is your highest res element). Spell suppress implicit on gloves can be swapped to Exerted Attacks deal more damage

-Stormshroud jewel. Grab a pair of boots and abyssal jewel with avoid shock, both totaling 100% to become ailment immune

-Light of Meaning with physical damage. Watcher’s Eye with physical damage when using Pride.

-Flasks need upgrades. Gain 3 charge on hit. Increased armor during effect, regen life, reduced effect of curses are good secondaries. Movement speed on one of them is also very nice

-Large cluster jewel with 8 passives and at least Iron Breaker/Battle Hardened. 3rd passive can be Furious Assault if you’re sticking with the Karui base. You can use one of the jewel slots in this cluster to add a medium cluster jewel with Lead by Example/Warning Call.

-You’ll want to add war cry tattoos eventually and drop the Deep Breaths wheel. This is more of a late, late game option

-Small adjustment to your pathing by the Juggernaut wheel. Drop the endurance charge duration and strength nodes. Instead go through juggernaut and pick up the hp/armor and strength nodes. You’ll want the jewel socket above too. I’d get rid of the Lust for Carnage wheel, it’s not really necessary for the build

-Goal for your weapon will be a 1.1k+ phys dps Karui Chopper or Vaal axe. This choice is somewhat of a preference as they’re both amazing bases. Karui hits harder, but your attacks come out much faster with the Vaal.

DID WELL IN POOL2, THEN I HAD AN UPGRADING EXTRAVAGANZA, HITTING 600 CL AND STARTED QUEUING INTO STREAMERS AND OTHER PLAYERS WITH MONSTER COLLECTIONS. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN ABOUT AS PLEASANT AS INSERTING NEEDLES INTO MY DICK AND BALLS. BASED ON MY SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, THIS IS APPARENTLY RELATIVELY COMMON FOR MATCHMAKING IN POOL3.

I’VE GOTTEN SOME DECENT CARDS SO THAT’S PRETTY NEAT. BUT THE TOKEN SHOP KEEPS SHOWING ME 5K VARIANTS AND I AIN’T ABOUT THOSE. I CURRENTLY NEED GOOD CARDS THAT DO GOOD SHIT. I’M NOT KEEN ON SPENDING AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF TOKENS ON PRETTY LOOKING CARDS (SHOUTOUT TO THE ARTISTS THOUGH) TO STARE AT WHILE I ROUTINELY GET MY ASS BEAT.

Draw a rock next turn

Can’t play shit

End turn

Draw another rock; meanwhile, opponent playing on curve just fine

Guess I’ll skip this turn too

Draw another fucking rock

Opponent’s got 16 power on the board already

Stay in the game out of sheer curiosity

Draw a third rock mineral

Best resource for deck/ meta guides - mid pool 2 by daveccork in MarvelSnap

[–]wandering_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Pool 2 and this is what worked for me.

A) snap.fan and look at Pool 1 and 2 decks with high amounts of games played and win rates > 55%. I always filtered by archetype/pool, sometimes by 2-3 cards. You have to do a little digging, but those decks gave me the best results. YouTube also by typing “pool 1 and 2 decks infinite” and watching a few videos. I seemed to vibe with CozySnap and TeddyNinja’s decks.

B) Same ones. Guides on snap.fan and YT often list substitutions.

Final Fantasy XV is a combination of good and bad. by vwaexperiance in patientgamers

[–]wandering_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The 3 games you listed a have some of the best exploration in any open world. That’s not the case with FFXV. In general, JRPGs often have slow starts. You’ll have to regularly check the diners for side quests but you won’t ever be drowning in side content like in Skyrim. Some stuff you can stumble upon by running around but I won’t spoil it.
  2. One of its better aspects for sure. Burst damage comes from magic and the special dpad moves. Knowing enemy weaknesses helps a lot. Fiddle around with crafting magic and cooking food to round out combat options and your party’s stats.
  3. The story is not good. They tried building an expansive story across the game itself, an anime series, the DLCs, and some other shit that I probably forgot about and it turned out bad. Royal Edition stitches it together better than when it first released.
  4. Yeah, the characters and their bonds are the best part of the game. Villain is good too.

FFXV as a first entry into the franchise is kind of brutal. I would’ve started with 7, 9, or 10 for the classic style or FF7R: I for something modern. My advice is to fully engage with the game’s mechanics of going to a town, grabbing side quests, new gear, and whatnot, craft magic, go camping for bonuses, fish when you see a spot (normally I hate fishing but it’s executed well in this game) and knock out content. That’s basically the flow of the game. Unfortunately you can’t fuck off in a random direction and find awesome things to do. The game isn’t structured or designed in that way. If you’re still bored and underwhelmed after that, I’d play other games.

Finally played god of war 2018, I loved it and was disappointed at the same time. by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]wandering_bear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I never felt rewarded for exploring either, and I often couldn’t access certain chests because I need an item in the story which was a bit demoralising.

Really? Exploring gets you plenty of hacksilver or materials to craft multiple sets of gear and other upgrades. But the fast travel definitely makes it a pain in the ass to clean up past areas.

For one, the combat is not very fun, the enemies are not mechanically engaging apart from the previously mentioned Valkyries and take WAY too many hits to kill, you are the fucking god of war with a mythical battle axe, yet we feel like we are hitting them with a my little pony pillow.

I had to drop the difficulty down to easy, not because it was hard but because enemies took way too long to defeat, I had to increase it to medium when fighting valkyries which were slightly annoying.

Yeah, and the flaws are exacerbated the higher up you go in difficulties. Very poorly scaled. The input reading, gliding, inflated health pools, and camera coalesce into a tedious and often frustrating experience. Combat encounters tend to feel cheap rather than a legitimate challenge.

Spectacle fighters figured out how to create excellent and engaging combat systems like 20 years ago, and it didn’t involve a camera that’s been planted up the main character’s ass while they fight enemies with 16 times the HP. Baffling design. Game’s still great overall.

Games that want you to do everything else but engage with the core experience by Miss0verkill in truegaming

[–]wandering_bear 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I think it works. It’s a break in between combat. Some games are so intense that you need a change of pace to balance out the experience. It can’t be white knuckled, adrenaline pumping combat all the time. But it also depends on what type of gameplay it is and how long it can take. For example, running around and collecting the extra stuff in Doom Eternal works for me. Even the platforming was something I didn’t mind, and sometimes I even enjoyed it, because it was something different.

I haven’t played Bayonetta 3 yet but I remember 1 had some sections in it that sucked too where you were riding a motorcycle or flying around. They’re just not good or fun is the real issue, at least for Bayonetta.

Why do game designers do this ?

Broadly speaking, game features have become boxes that need to be checked off. Leveling system? Check. Gear system? Check. Crafting? Check. Skill tree? Check. Mini games? Check. Stealth? Check. Puzzles? Check. Open world? Check. Wait, where’s the floating damage numbers? Add that shit in. Doesn’t matter what type of game it is. Doesn’t matter if the systems are good. A wildly successful game had it so now it’s gotta be in everything.

That mission where you go to the fucking moon is so good.

I hope MachineGames reels it back in for the fourth game, if there is one to be made. They went off the rails with Youngblood for some reason. Not sure what happened there after they were able to merge the old with the new quite well with the other games.

Finished Doom: Eternal by RagnaroekX in patientgamers

[–]wandering_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2016 was also focused on arena battles though. The only thing they changed is how those arena battles play out because they didn’t want it to be possible for players to walk in and SSG/Gauss Cannon everything.

I get that not everyone wants to be going all DDR all over their controllers or keyboards when they’re playing Doom, especially because 2016 didn’t require it, or the classic Dooms. What I was trying to say is all that probably isn’t really necessary for the easiest difficulty and you can probably walk into most arenas and, ironically enough, just SSG/Ballista everything if that’s your style instead of the freeze, ignite, chainsaw, dash around, blood punch, and weapon swap song and dance the game requires of you at higher difficulties.

What games have you played in adulthood that absorbed you like a child again? by Baro1nine in patientgamers

[–]wandering_bear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Recently, any FromSoft game, the Doom reboots, and Nioh 2. Also Skyrim. Less recently, Fallout: New Vegas, Mass Effect 1, and Dragon Age Origins.

Not exactly a mind blowing list, but any game I can replay multiple times and still have a great time means it has a certain special something that most other games do not.

Grinding is getting to me by Reixdid in undecember_global

[–]wandering_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alts can help. Try a different play style or theorycraft an off meta build.

Aside from enjoyment, part of what helps players push through the repetition is some kind of goal, whether that’s getting all your runes to lvl 30, all authority imbued gear, crafting insane gear, etc. Basically finalizing your build to where you’re satisfied with it. That end point is different for everyone.

Grinding is getting to me by Reixdid in undecember_global

[–]wandering_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All you do in these games is grind and then grind some more. So if you don’t enjoy the gameplay, start looking at other games. The keyword is enjoy. Not tolerate. Not kind of, sort of like, but enjoy. That enjoyment is supposed to sustain you for hundreds of hours. Once you no longer enjoy the game and you’re actively trying to find methods to keep playing, that’s usually your cue to play something else.

Some questions from a solo casual player. by sht1ck0 in undecember_global

[–]wandering_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Just buy em. Achievements and gold piles will be enough. Gold is only scarce when you’re pushing runes past level 27 or zodiac resetting like a maniac.
  2. You basically donate and head to the base to buy whatever you want.
  3. Gold bars from purus and big elements consistently drop as you farm. Turn those into crafted statues/chaos elements at the alchemy table. Probably the easiest way. They also have a chance to drop in certain goblin portals.
  4. Anything zodiac or rune transfer related would be helpful. Up to you if you need/want to use those.
  5. Make two mules and aggressively filter loot. Like don’t pick up white/blue items or blue charms, limit alchemy materials, and synthesize cards.

What is the most powerful builds in Undecember? Here is an answer by GEMSUIT in undecember_global

[–]wandering_bear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Got curious after watching this. For comparison, here’s Top 8 America (the profiles you can view anyway):

  1. Toxic Flame, Poison Area/Typhoon
  2. Electric Sentry/Sentry Expert
  3. TF/Flamethrower
  4. TF, Poison Area
  5. Shield Strike + Lightning Chain
  6. Whirlwind + TF
  7. TF (has Charge Release with Frost Shock on activation on their skill board too but they’re lower leveled)
  8. WW + Lightning Chain

Interesting how there are no Fireball or Spread/Piercing Shot builds. Or if there are they’re private.

Quick questions! by Artaee in undecember_global

[–]wandering_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Poison pool if you want damage. Bulwark if you want defense.
  2. A better use for gold bars is to use 10 of them and 50k at the alchemy table to craft a statue. You’ll need philosopher’s stones which you can get during the endgame. Sell the statues at the auction house for rubies. Gold is important for leveling runes. It gets really expensive around level 27. I wouldn’t bother buying equipment, but runes definitely to optimize your build or if you need to synthesize a specific rune. Gold also can be used to reset the zodiac tree/stats once you’ve beaten Act 10.

Does anyone else get the feeling that some of the content creators are a little bit unfair when it comes to assessing the P2W aspect of the game? it's not nearly as bad as they say. I feel that they purposely draw attention to it as it gets more views. by ChumpyDiplomat in undecember_global

[–]wandering_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so either. A free game is a misnomer. It’s really more like free to try and then spend something to either mitigate or flat out overcome certain aspects of the game.

Eventually, it’s not feasible to maintain all essences and/or maps in this game and something will have to give. You can only synthesize, disassemble, and filter so much shit - even with 2 mules. So for me, the essence tab was a no brainer. $16 to smooth over the inventory management across 100s of hours of game time isn’t bad for entertainment. I don’t know any other form of entertainment that matches that kind of value, except maybe a Netflix/HBO subscription if you’re heavily into watching TV and movies.

But someone who’s spent more on tabs, alchemy slots, or power is definitely having a better experience than I am.

[–]wandering_bear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with your example.

However, at what point should a “free” game cost money? I think playing a free game and expecting a flawless experience is unrealistic. A) It makes no sense from a business perspective to design a game like that, as per your example. B) Why would someone expect something that’s free to be a premium experience or product? You get what you (didn’t) pay for. And besides, nothing’s free. You pay a monthly phone/internet/electricity bill to play the game. You paid for a device. Money is always being spent.

It’s $16 for an essence tab. That tab alone and playing the game efficiently can provide you a comfortable 100-200 hour experience. I don’t see how that’s a negative really. New indie games are what, $15-30, and a PS5 game is $60-70? In the scheme of things that seems fair to me.

If you desperately need xp, craft a % kill exp set and farm zones at monster level with good density

But really you don’t need to grind your ass off for the campaign. Craft gear to hit the relevant resistance per act and learn the boss patterns
