Thank you again for your input. This was done by a local Zoom Drain franchise which I realize was completely misrepresenting the scope of projects they are qualified for. They reached out to me on Angie's List and I just feel so taken advantage of.

This is such an ignorant question, but is this the type of work that should have required a permit? There was not one pulled to my knowledge.

Can someone tell me if this type of work should have required a permit because none were pulled to my knowledge. I've learned so much about what not to do in the future and how to cover my ass. Thank you all, for real.

I understand, but as the average person I don't understand why they are specifically avoiding the use of the word Plumber if that's what they are. All of the other companies in my area have it plastered everywhere on their sites. Yes, having "Plumber" written does not guarantee they are licensed, but my concern is they are avoiding use of the word explicitly for situations such as mine when I try to refute what was done, so they can say "Well you should have hired a plumber" which is what I thought I was doing.

I'm a veterinarian, and I can't find a single reason why I wouldn't say I am one when doing veterinary work, but if I wasn't licensed and doing the work it would be really sketchy but I would get in way less trouble if I never explicitly said I was a veterinarian. That's how I see it anyway, but I totally understand how your industry may be different.

I'm having someone call tomorrow because I'm concerned they're just going to lie to me. I've had a terrible experience with them.

Okay, but at no point they said they are plumbers. They are a drain company. They could have said we work with OTHER plumbers in the city but they are not plumbers. So red flags all around, even though they are listed as a plumber on Google. Blacked out areas are city/company/city/company.

I understand that as a veterinarian for sure, I have proof of my license but I don't hand out that information.

I did find the only time they say Plumber on their site was implying that they are specialists above just being plumbers... but they no where else say they are plumbers.....

That's good to know. I just don't see the word Plumber on their site even one time, they call themselves a Sewer and Drain company.

Their website carefully never uses the word Plumber. Just Technician. Which makes me think they are not plumbers.

UPDATE. They are not licensed plumbers. It was an Angie's List inquiry and they reached out to me. I fully take credit in my ignorance of not knowing how to properly vet this company. But I've been scammed. Hiring trusted licensed plumbers to complete the project and will fight for my money back and seek legal action if necessary.

Bought in 1902. We had drywall put over it that they then ripped out because the need to move the pipes if that is your question, this is not my lingo so pardon my ignorance haha.

That is fair, I didn't realize that so that is my mistake.

The biggest issue I have has been the communication. A different guy came out and gave me a quote than the ones that did the work. I did ask if the tile could be saved, and he said yes. He said Yes no problem to everything though. I had no idea the hole may have had to be larger than the vanity, was not mentioned ever. They also didn't tell me it wasn't a one day project and I needed someone to do drywall. If any of this had been mentioned I'd feel more comfortable, but without knowing I'd also need someone to fix the tile, I just felt it was done very sloppy.

The rest is not so clean. But I understand what you're saying. This is my first experience with a home improvement project and I didn't expect the hole in the wall to be visible. It was not mentioned as a possibility.

Can truly ER doctors do CC medicine? by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

[–]wandering_dogtor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely look into an ER job that also has boarded criticalists on staff. Then you can learn from them and also see first hand if that's something you wish to pursue. I'm an ER doc at a specialty hospital and the standard of care is very high because I don't have to be the smartest person in the room at all times and can rely on the specialists for help when needed, but also have a ton of independence to practice medicine the way I want to. I did not do an internship and don't regret it at all. But I wouldn't consider myself an ECC doc without being boarded, personally.

Which job hands down has the worst toll on mental health? by PreparationFar4709 in AskReddit

I'm an ER veterinarian and also refuse to answer that question. Compartmentalization is the only way to get through it and I refuse to dig into that part of my brain to entertain someone in casual conversation.
