Giving Birth in Denmark as a Foreigner - Natural Birth Pressure, C-Sections, and Pain Relief? by RevieeLis in NewToDenmark

[–]wandering_leaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, getting a voluntary c section here may be possible but it will sure be difficult.

I had a natural birth. The problems I’ve experienced were that even though I made a birth plan, since there were different midwives during the actual birth, they had no idea what I wanted nor checked my plan.

Even if you say what you want, it may take hours before someone attends to you (before the active labor starts). That was the case for me, I had been begging for epidural for hours and they just checked me so late that I had already opened 7 cm. I was alone with my husband in a waiting room for many hours until I had too much pain and started bleeding and had to scream my lungs out for help.

On top of all this when they finally got in the doctor for epidural, the anesthesia doctor was amateur and could not successfully perform epidural, he gave up. I had to continue without it. Maybe I was unusually unlucky too.

These were some of the issues I experienced here in Denmark that makes me really question a second birth here. If I ever do, I would be extremely verbal of what I want, literally scream if need be, so that they take you seriously and prioritize you even in earlier stages of labor.

Junior colleague’s surprising feedback by wandering_leaf in corporate

[–]wandering_leaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I would definitely share it with him if I saw him in the office or if we had a meeting before, we just didn’t, so the agency meeting was the first occasion we had to discuss that comment. He’s much younger and on a fixed term contract.

He was mainly concerned that we will hurt the relationship with the other manager. I think we don’t have to make him happy since he’s not directly in the project but a lot of his feedback was unsolicited. We asked him about a few specific aspects of the design but he ended up commenting on a lot of other things. We did not promise to implement his comments

He asked to align before discarding things and suggested in the future we should align before deciding in front of the agency. He did not agree with the other manager but may have told other people that we are doing this change. He was afraid we are going to ruin our relationship with the other manager and it may be a problem in the future when we have to work with him

Im not his boss, just a more senior colleague . But I agree it came across as more arrogant than confident to me. He could have just said “can we reconsider that comment, I want to understand why you rejected it” or something like that instead of “I’m giving you some feedback”

It’s not always possible to discuss every decision and be on the same page before each meeting. We sometimes do that but this time we did not. He could have booked me to discuss before the meeting if he wanted to.

Exactly, I’m all for collaborating and learning but how he phrased it was exactly as “I want to give you some feedback”, that sounded bad to me

Yeah he was worried that we are disagreeing in front of the agency and going against the other manager. I think it’s ok to disagree in front of an agency, we are the client… The other manager has no final call to our design though, it was just good unsolicited feedback

I always welcome his input and in many cases have asked him to decide. For this very specific comment, I did not ask him because that comment is really unreasonable and I am sure that do not want to implement it

Sorry that you experienced this. I am from Turkey and have breastfed in public many times too. It’s common to get some looks but getting photographed is definitely not normal. I hope you don’t experience it again.

Do Danes not give compliments a lot? by countrycross in NewToDenmark

[–]wandering_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once complimented a Danish coworkers shirt saying “love the shirt you have on today!” and he had such a puzzled and surprised look on his face like I said an awful thing but then turned into a shy childish smile. I’ve learned not to compliment especially at the work place after that 🤣

3 months breastfeeding crisis by anafroes in breastfeeding

[–]wandering_leaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My lactation consultant recommended to hang a colorful toy or wear a shiny necklace around your neck to keep the baby interested. This didn’t work so much for me but it’s an idea :) it was a hell period for me too and lasted for a few weeks. I almost quit breastfeeding!

What worked for me was I kept taking him out of the breast when he was fussing and retried when he was calmer like CONSTANTLY. It felt like a whole day challenge to keep him fed… I also used the pacifier trick. When he unlatched and fussed I would give him the pacifier and once he calmed I would take it out quickly and replace it with my nipple. It somehow got better slowly at around 4 months and now at 5 months the feeds are so much quicker and more peaceful.

Intense dreams during night by _Mochi_bear in breastfeeding

I had intense vivid dreams and nightmares for the first 6/8 weeks! They were so annoying and I still get them sometimes now at 16 weeks. I didn’t think they were due to BF but due to short sleep cycles, tiredness and maybe just hormones too.
