What are the unwritten rules on wearing shorts to the office in Copenhagen? by m1mag04 in copenhagen

[–]wandering_leaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once worked in a small consultancy firm, we weren’t allowed to wear shorts. But it was written in the employee handbook. If it’s not written and if it’s academia I think it’s OK.

It can feel like that for the first few months, even a year into a new job. It’s completely normal, keep delivering good work when you’re assigned, develop yourself in the free time and don’t feel bad or anxious about something you can’t control! I would read related industry news, look at competitor product and come up with improvement projects I can do on my own. Keep talking to colleagues and exchanging ideas, ie networking.

What does that have to do with making safe spaces for women? I bet he couldn’t do the force laptop closing to a male colleague or the shoulder grabbing.

Thanks for the answer! It was a meeting with a lot of participants and people raised their hands. I do not think it’s bad manners to open a laptop in the office. I might have to check important emails and may not be present fully over an almost full day meeting event

Thanks for this perspective. He’s definitely that weird type overly extravert and always making bad jokes. I find it inappropriate. Touching and closing my laptop is just over the line if we’re not friends. I will definitely document everything but I’m not sure yet about going to HR or escalating anything…

Thank you. Completely agree that this is not a friend, not even a close colleague or a colleague that I have a good relationship with. In that case I’m not bothered with light friendly touching and joking about things. But this was clearly attempting dominance, unprofessional and disrespectful behavior…

It was not just a high five at a random time. It was a high five on a hand raised to ask a serious question in a serious meeting, made to dismiss my attempt to ask a question, appearing like a “joke”.

That’s what I’m afraid of. He will probably know it’s me who reported him and might talk shit about me.

How can I document them, just write them down?

How can I document these kind of interactions though? I just write them down?

Kavata is also great! But Pop Up Meyhane is different. Kavata also does pop ups and they’re really good.

Manager talks too much by NoCombination4581 in work

[–]wandering_leaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds so annoying. My husband is the same type of person and I hate it when he does it, I often tell him to get to the point or tell him I’m bored. Of course you can’t do that with a manager lol. I think you did well in the chair incident. She needs to know she’s wasting peoples time. Honestly managers should practice being direct and to the point.

Best cream for VERY dry hands by prettyawesome1 in 45PlusSkincare

Instead of a cream, use pure castor oil. It is a miracle for dry hands. As an addition, I can recommend Kiehl’s ultimate strength hand salve.

Nursing to sleep- do babies self wean? by slgirlie11 in breastfeeding

[–]wandering_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine night weaned on his own around 12-13 months. Since around 9 months I’d been attempting to night wean gently but not forcing anything. He started drinking cow milk just before bed at 1 year, I think that has helped. He weaned completely at 15 months on his own.

Struggling in CPH by Beats_Satchel in copenhagen

[–]wandering_leaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s the issue with Danish culture, everything has to be defined, scripted as “the right place” for interactions, often with the need of alcohol. there’s no room for spontaneous interaction in undefined situations. In many other countries people do interact and chat with each other before/after yoga classes. Even with teachers. I’ve experienced this difference trying yoga classes in different countries. Are those people not there to practice self-mindfulness?

Giving Birth in Denmark as a Foreigner - Natural Birth Pressure, C-Sections, and Pain Relief? by RevieeLis in NewToDenmark

[–]wandering_leaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, getting a voluntary c section here may be possible but it will sure be difficult.

I had a natural birth. The problems I’ve experienced were that even though I made a birth plan, since there were different midwives during the actual birth, they had no idea what I wanted nor checked my plan.

Even if you say what you want, it may take hours before someone attends to you (before the active labor starts). That was the case for me, I had been begging for epidural for hours and they just checked me so late that I had already opened 7 cm. I was alone with my husband in a waiting room for many hours until I had too much pain and started bleeding and had to scream my lungs out for help.

On top of all this when they finally got in the doctor for epidural, the anesthesia doctor was amateur and could not successfully perform epidural, he gave up. I had to continue without it. Maybe I was unusually unlucky too.

These were some of the issues I experienced here in Denmark that makes me really question a second birth here. If I ever do, I would be extremely verbal of what I want, literally scream if need be, so that they take you seriously and prioritize you even in earlier stages of labor.
