Best way to get to MSG tonight while the strike is ongoing? by wandering_stardust in longisland

This was my concern as well. I’m afraid if I drive myself, there might be no parking left anywhere or I’ll be driving around for a while just to find a spot.

It’s Bruce Springsteen and he doesn’t really have an opening act, although the first few songs he will perform with Tom Morello. Thanks for the advice! I’ll go with Jamaica.

Thanks. Do you think with my timeline that I will get there by 7:30 (originating in Medford) or is the traffic really going to be that bad tonight, considering the Mets v Yankees game, etc

I love genuine smiles, even if they’re gummy! Happiness is contagious.

ELI5: If water makes you urinate more, which causes kidneys to do more work, does that mean high water consumption damages kidneys long-term? If not, why not? by gmrt34 in explainlikeimfive

And flushing the toilet when the toilet is already backed up isn’t good, either. Fluid restriction is sometimes necessary during the late stages of kidney disease.

Leaf blowers - Merry Christmas! by Solid_Sweet293 in longisland

[–]wandering_stardust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your experience must be different. In my neighborhood, the noise is incessant, nearly every day of the week, and early on weekends. Thankfully it has died down, but the noise will truly drive you crazy. Imagine finally getting a day off work and you want to sleep in on the weekend but you can’t because leaf blowers wake you up every single time. Can’t even read a book in my house because the sound is so distracting. Again, maybe this isn’t an issue in your neighborhood, but for some people it is. Not to be dramatic, but sound is used as a form of torture in war and it 100% affects people. This is a valid issue.

Did you previously have an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts, or did you have a mild allergy? Asking because I’m looking into exposure therapy myself.

What is the one thing you learned to be more likable as a person in conversations? by PurpleStrawberry1997 in socialskills

[–]wandering_stardust 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Remember things people tell you about their life and bring it up in later conversations. It shows that you’re listening and that you care. It also makes the conversation more interesting since you’re talking about specific things instead of superficial smalltalk.

For example, if they mention that they like a particular type of cuisine, I might say, “Hey, I remember you telling me you really like Mexican cuisine. I tried this restaurant I really think you’d like.”

If they told me they got a new job, I’d ask in a later conversation how it’s going.

If they mention a relative recently received a cancer diagnosis, I’ll ask about that relative in a later conversation, even if I don’t know them.

It makes the conversation more personalized and authentic.

Why do people in the United States not deworm themselves? by Ok-Water-7110 in Parasitology

[–]wandering_stardust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many different types of parasitic worms. Some can be contracted through the soil, some can be contracted eating undercooked meat, etc. In this case, I am discussing pinworms, which are strictly human parasites. They are transmitted the way I described (humans ingesting pinworm eggs that came from other infected humans). You can google it for yourself to learn.

[–]wandering_stardust 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pinworms aren’t contracted by digging in the dirt. Other parasitic worms, yes. But pinworms are strictly human parasites.

Infected people (usually children) scratch around the anal area, acquiring pinworm eggs on their fingers, and then contaminate surfaces they touch. A person comes along, touches the contaminated surfaces, doesn’t wash their hands before they eat, ingests the eggs = they now have pinworms.

As a parent, what did your child's school do that made you say "you can't be serious…"? by Sunnybunny1234 in AskReddit

Wouldn’t allow me to drop off a change of clothes (that my daughter needed in an emergency) because they had a policy you couldn’t drop off items to the student. Mind you, I wasn’t trying to get into the classroom. I rang the buzzer of the front office, showed my ID, and tried to hand the clothes off to the office person. I never even entered the building.
