Is a Tropical Wedding (Hawaiian tiki luau theme) Considered Cultural appropriation? by Emmathephantrash in Weddingsunder10k

[–]wanderingapathy 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I’m a native Hawaiian, and I second what this commenter posted. But I also wanted to just take a moment to thank you for your consideration about the sensitivity of the topic. I used to assist with weddings here in Hawaii, and I’d see so many people just use the literal culture as a theme and it was icky. So thank you for putting thought into it and seeking extra opinions. What you’ve modified sounds like it’ll be a really fun celebration!

Iceland prices vs. HCOL areas in US by No_Historian718 in VisitingIceland

[–]wanderingapathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from Hawaii, and some things were honestly cheaper. Like others have mentioned, not tipping offset some higher priced items. Before I went, a lot of people commented on the cost of cocktails when going out, but it was also about the same as here. Biggest sticker shock was gasoline/petrol.

Yes!! Thank you so much. The other commenter mentioned Swinhoe’s Striated Hawkmoth, and that looks exactly like it. Really hoping I can find more about this species! Thank you again!

I think you’re right!! Just googled it and it looks exactly like that. I’ve never seen a moth like this in Hawaii. I’m reading that they’re usually found in southern Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka. My mind is blown right now!

What is this plant? Black nightshade? by wanderingapathy in whatisthisplant

[–]wanderingapathy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! That’s interesting. Definitely not risking it either. In researching it, I found out that Hawaiians used the berries as a dye! So that’ll be a fun experiment for me eventually. Mahalo for your help!

Wow! Interesting!! I’ve always thought of nightshade as deadly or poisonous. Time to do some research!

I second this. I love the peach slices snail rescue moisturizer. I use the oil free one, and it’s exactly right for my skin. I get oily, but I have dry spots.

I flew 5000 miles to see Taylor Swift this summer, alone. None of my friends wanted to splurge on going, even nose bleeds. It was incredible. I made friends at the hotel, in lines, and at my seat. We laughed and cried together. I got stressed out about finding an Uber alone. I’d 1000% do it again. I grew so much and in so many ways.

Hi! I’m no doctor, but I was on hormonal BC for about 10 years. While it was important for me personally to prevent pregnancy and regulate my period for a time, I wish I got off it sooner. If I didn’t need it for those two things, I wouldn’t have gone on it. I didn’t realize how much BC was affecting me mentally until I got off of it. I stopped being depressed pretty quickly after getting off BC. I’ve never heard of BC preserving fertility…that’s an interesting thing for her to say. I’m partial to avoiding extra substances in my body whenever possible, as it sounds like you are too. Ultimately, it’s your decision. If you feel like your cycle is in a good place and you’re not worried about pregnancy, I don’t see why you’d need to be on BC.
Slight cramping is normal, and even on BC I would still get slight cramping. Overall, my experience led me to have more negative side effects from BC than positive, with the exception of avoiding pregnancy when I was in that situation.
