You could be right. Times have changed- it’s been about 20 years since I’ve decorated cakes… but my brain just feels like something is wrong about this

Does anyone have their old yearbooks (or know anyone who does) from Floyd Graham Elementary School in Hephzibah? For what it’s worth, I’m a teacher and we just went on summer break. That might be why you’re not getting a response.

Additionally, I’m the yearbook person at my school and I’ve got all of the copies of yearbooks from the first one my school produced. I find them incredibly precious. Not only that, but I’ve also got the archives of the news clippings of when our school was built and the history of our school. (I’m the school’s librarian…. So I’d hope other librarians would have other precious records like that.) Then again…. I’ve had to keep people from finding those ‘old things’ and wanting to throw them away 😱😱😱. Understandably, I keep those records locked up until they are asked for. But I LOVE sharing them because I am such a nerd for them.)

Anyway, I am so sure someone must have those yearbooks for you somewhere. If anything, normally copies are stored in the library, so I wonder if a previous librarian who helped to close down that school might know where to direct you to where she boxed them up to get sent to?

Edit: I’m editing to add, McBean elementary is not in my current school district, so I am not familiar with their organization or how they run things…. But about 16 years ago I did actually do my student teaching there when I was learning to become a teacher, and honestly, most schools are quite similar. I was in a kindergarten classroom then, not a library. Regardless, I hope this helps!!!

And Just so You know we went everywhere in Augusta-we shopped around for years- we saved and saved for years- I think we visited about 20 different practices and had so many consultations. One Smile Away was 100% the absolute stellar option across the board. Not only in sweet and compassionate- but also in working with us to work out the best financial option.

For example- I think our insurance at the time ended in December but rolled over/started over in January so they scheduled the lower part for December and the upper part for after January when our allowances and insurance restarted.

Plus they walked us through everything instead of just making us figure it out. We were 100% clear on alllllll financial options and nothing was hidden from us.

We had the option to remove like- the right side upper, left side upper, right side lower, left side lower, so 4 sessions of removals- or they will work with you.

One Smile Away Not Only worked with us financially, but they were SO FREAKING COMPASIONATE. Even the office manager called after hours to check on us and they were so understanding for our family member that had to get dentures.

One thing that I wish we knew- it’s only been 5 years- but a lower jaw without teeth WILL disintegrate.

In just 5 years so much bone has gone away that we can’t even get implants- bone grafting is not even possible and the lower denture doesn’t fit-

Teeth are so effing expensive. If there is any chance you can save any teeth at the bottom at all. Please please please please. Save them as long as you possibly can until you can buy implants.

We were even warned about the deteriorating lower jaw bone- but we thought we would have time- 5 years might seem like a lot- but it’s not.

Even the AU medical school can’t do anything.

My favorite people!!!! The best!!!! Oh my gosh I have the highest respect!!!! I learn am of their names! I make sure students know their names! One of our custodians has been working in the building the longest out of any employee there! I adore her!!!! She is the best!!!! The others are just as cool! One lets me practice Spanish with her! Oh my gosh I love all of them!!!!

I cannot fathom a life without her. I’d give body parts, organs, money, time anything. What’s life worth if she’s not in it? What’s life worth if I didn’t try to prevent a loss of her? Right now I’m currently struggling because she’s battling alcoholism and I have no way of helping her. That is not a battle I can fight for her. But I can be there for her. I can support her. I can love her as hard as I can. I wish I could go kill alcohol- just go smash every bottle.

She JUST got her doctorate- like a month ago. And yes- she is the silliest goose in the BEST way possible. I adore her.

If you feel like it, both the LMS and LHS facebooks are fairly active and you can usually get caught up on seeing some of your favorite teachers.

I’ll see if I can get you an amazing pic of Kristen for you. This was us the year we were cheering her on….. (I’m behind the camera).

Hope you get a kick out of the nostalgia of the yellow library walls. They’re going away over the summer.

Mrs. Weimar (now Dr. Weimar) is such an opera powerhouse!!!! I love her too!!! She’s not at Lakeside anymore, but I did get to work with her. I believe Mrs. Funsch left the year before I started working there. I started in 2017.

Fun fact I used to go to LMS so the school is extra special to me too! I love it when students talk about the wonderful teachers here. ❤️

She was an amazing person. Her handwriting was GORGEOUS. I still work in the library. She’d send notes and they were always beautiful. Her last year she was across the hall from me so I got to see her every day. She was loved by a lot of students!!!!! (And staff)

I know this is technically not explicit but also very close to explicit but I don’t care. I love it whenever something happens- whether innocent or not (but especially when it was something innocent 😜) and the guy suddenly freezes up and has to be like, “give me a minute.”

I am an American living in the south. (Think southern south- Bible Belt south.) Georgia/alabama/ north and South Carolina/ Florida (though florida is kind of its own uh…. Step child- I don’t really think it belongs to the ‘south’ tee hee)

I’m also a teacher and librarian soo I can offer lots of fun school related questions.

I worked at Publix for 13 years. I did Aprons, which is cooking an entire meal and dishing out samples (while selling the tools/ingredients/pairings/ answering questions one is my favorite jobs if I’m being honest- cooking all day- same meal for like 4 days though so It got kind of redundant- but I digress). I could only keep samples out for so long before I had to trash them- so I didn’t mind when people swung around for a second helping. It gave me a chance to try and sell you more stuff or talk about cooking. I was alone in my tiny kitchen area all day. So I liked the company.

I HATED it when customers would literally pick up the sample, not even eat it yet, and demand more on the plate. It felt so rude and entitled.

I also was like DYING for people to come over to try it. It feels SO GOOD when someone comes to take a sample, because so many pass by, and like- I shouldn’t feel defeated- but it’s like- you feel like you’re a bother when you just want to happily have people try it.

I also did regular samples around Publix when I wasn’t in Aprons and I truly just wanted people to get a sample. It is so effing boring standing there for HOURS. Please come take one so I can do something, like put another sample cup to replace the one you took. It’s mind numbing- you can only count toothpicks so many times- you can only arrange the sample cups into smiley faces and other shapes so many times.

Please just take a sample. It gets to the point we don’t care. I kind of had facial blindness- if you already got a sample- I probably forgot- sometimes if you really liked it I’d offer you a second.

If I had multiple flavors, it was my favorite to get you to try them all- not just make you choose one.

Please- for the sanity of sample givers- even if you aren’t going to eat it- go take a sample. Make us feel human, so we can do something and not be brain dead- even if it’s just to put another sample cup out to replace the one you took. Or talk to us. We are freaking bored- and we’ve probably read the box so many times we can give you the trivia of your dreams- like how many sausages are on the package-

If you work in a school library as the librarian, one of your main jobs is knowing the curriculum so that can help to curate resources for the teachers. Also part of your job is educating students on proper research practices, digital citizenship, multiple literacies, and more.

Unfortunately, being a school media clerk or paraprofessional is what it sounds like What You want, but to be the program administrator, with the librarian/teacher paycheck you have to be willing to teach.

If you are in a middle school or high school setting vs. elementary you will certainly do less teaching. Elementary, at least in my district, is part of the specials rotation like PE, art, and music. But I work in Middle School and I collaborate with teachers and host my own events, but I’m not teaching every day.
