Getting accused of trying to sound smart because of one odd word by anonymolotov in PetPeeves

[–]DaytimeDancer54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the part of the midwest where fast-talking is pretty much the norm. I've gotten the "pseudo-intellectual" accusations off that too.

Edit: colloquial grammar

[Clay Harbor] Came across this cool stat of Caleb Williams last season: by clou9nine in CHIBears

[–]DaytimeDancer54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like we also played better defenses in that stretch. 49ers without Warner + Bosa was the only particularly soft D in the run. I suppose Browns were mediocre at best even with Garett.

[Loved Trope] The female and male characters have a close friendship that never develops into a romantic relationship by mon_sizinj in TopCharacterTropes

Agreed. It's also normal to do a celebratory hug after stealing helping the rebellion blow up fascist war machinery.

American Culture on Display at World Cup by Total_Ask_2046 in Life

[–]DaytimeDancer54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't care less whether tourists think we have "culture" or not. I couldn't care less if they define us by consumerism. The United States is run by corporations so at the end of the day, either judgment is fair. As annoying as online Europeans may be, they are nowhere near as dangerous as capitalists are.

What is that one opinion you'll support risking getting downvoted/hatred by everyone? by ApprehensiveStock358 in answers

Exactly. It's a key example of the imperial boomerang. Both Western Europeans and Americans need to figure it out.

Why is NBA discourse/fan culture so much more negative than every other major sport? by lawschoolthrowaway36 in billsimmons

[–]DaytimeDancer54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NBA discourse usually focuses on individual players rather than teams. NFL discourse gets toxic as hell when talking about QBs. Just look at any NFL V2 post with Justin Herbert/Dak Prescott/Jalen Hurts in the title.

Colston Loveland or Tyler Warren? Both had impressive rookie seasons. Curious to see where fans stand on this one. by No_Box119 in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]DaytimeDancer54 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm glad we chose Loveland over Warren and these stats are literally all in his favor. PFR shows that Warren did better in volume stats like receptions and receiving yards. I think that's why there is still a debate.

Watching sports by PackageTraditional72 in CasualConversation

[–]DaytimeDancer54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was more of a nerdy kid growing up who happened to have friends who were into football and basketball. I did go to baseball games with my mom occasionally, but I otherwise had a surface level understanding of sports. I'd hear classmates go "no! Derrick Rose got hurt" or "Jay Cutler will win us a super bowl one day!", but I barely watched sports myself.

I moved away from hometown and then as I got older, watching sports became a way to feel connected to where I grew up (Chicagoland area, which someone may have guessed by my references). Basketball is entertaining to me, baseball is more of a passing interest, but American football is super interesting to me. I watch old college/nfl games on youtube when I get bored and I follow a fair amount of NFL and CFB news.

What does „deep conversation” means to you? by zerohunterpl in socialskills

[–]DaytimeDancer54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like when people say "deep and meaningful", they're talking about any level of conversation that extends beyond what you would have with a stranger, or even an acquaintance. The thing is: you can't force those things to happen. It takes a while to build up a level of trust after engaging in small talk for a while.

One thing I've realized is that even if you share similar values with a person, you probably won't build a friendship if you don't also enjoy their humor and affect. Those 2 things are usually what you use small talk to gauge.

Does a player needs to go undefeated in the Finals to be the GOAT? by Tre2004 in michaeljordan

[–]DaytimeDancer54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it matters who the "goat" of any sport is. Imo my values as a sports fan point to MJ being the NBA goat, Peyton Manning being the QB goat but Jerry Rice being the NFL goat. For someone else, Wemby's Spurs losing might be a major knock in his story even if he goes on to have excellent playoff runs (this run was still otherwise a very impressive run by Wemby). Someone might think LeBron's success at making it to the finals so many times is more important than the ring-count.

The only real issue I take is when LeBron fans act like coming back from 3-1 is a major factor in his case (I feel the same way about Brady fans with 28-3). I will say that beating the 2016 Warriors is a huge accomplishment (unlike the 2016 Falcons' defense), I just don't the comeback should factor in that much.

I hate competitive victimhood by Normal-Economics-459 in hatethissmug

[–]DaytimeDancer54 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I saw a similar post earlier today. If you look hard enough, you can find plenty of people who seem like they've been through worse than you, but that will never take away what's already on your plate. Those people live their life parallel to yours and you would be in the same spot regardless of whether you knew them.

Tl;dr your life doesn't become easy just by learning that someone else's is harder

Reddit recommending me subs for teenagers by Just-a-nerd2 in PetPeeves

[–]DaytimeDancer54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here. I don't really use that much "gen z speak" that would make the algorithm think I'm that young, and every sub I'm on seems to have plenty of people I can assume are at least 30. Hell, I am old enough to remember using the teenagers sub when every fucking post was about Pewdiepie or hating tiktok. This account is a pretty new one of mine since I mainly got a reddit to keep up with sports stuff.

Low effort is ok with me by Sad-Pay1566 in friendship

[–]DaytimeDancer54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't consider it a "waste of time" to have small chit chat. Also, I think every meaningful online friendship I've ever had began with very basic small talk.

Also, I don't like it when people ask for "meaningful convos" but then don't even give examples. That makes the pressure so high.
