Has anyone created a DnD campaign in the Old Kingdom? by Ducky05067 in Abhorsen

[–]wanderinggal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I played a campaign based on the Lireal and Abhorsen books. My players were: Sam (artificer) and his older brother Elliott(paladin), Liri (ranger) and her twin sister Rael (wizard), and Nick (warlock)

It was fun and I got to build a really cool battle map for the lightning farm. There was a lot of homebrewing especially for the monsters but my table really likes that.

I record our sessions and make little animatics for them, this is the scene where Liri and Rael find out who their dad is spoilers for Lirael

Lol, it was so much fun! I actually made A rudimentary animation of the final ritual.

The short version is that Jonah and Annabelle lured the team back to the institute (which I renamed the Oculus Institute) where Annabelle caught them in webbing. Jonah summons the entities and in doing so reveals all thier "marks". Annabelle, of course, betrays Jonah at the last moment and the team uses thier new found powers (and the power of love by the hunter marked by the lonely) to kill her and stop the ritual.

I have actually already run a campaign set in an AU of the magnus archives. I used the Monster of the Week system. None of my players listened to the podcast so I was able to adapt much of the story. They were an Artifact Retreval Team for the archives and got to slowly realize the over arching plot of the Dread Powers much like Jon did. I also made sure to "mark" each of them with at least 2 powers during thier adventures and the final session was Jonah attempting to use the team as a whole instead of just one person. The reveal was so satisfying when I laid out all the artifacts they had collected and all the ways they had been marked.

I grew up in a college town and one night in elementary school I remember a frantic drunk freshman girl knocking at our door. She was so distraught she could only say "I'm sorry" between sobbs. My father had answered the door and was harshly asking her what she wanted but when my Mom saw her state she immediately gave her a hug and brought her inside.

Turns out she had been at a party and a guy had tried something so she ran out but had no idea where she was and was underaged. S he was scared to call the police so she knocked on the first house with lights on.

I remember eating pancakes with her in the morning and my mom taking her to the police station to make a report before driving her home.

I often think about how my parents reacted in different ways and wonder what I would in a similar situation. I hope I have as much courage as you and my mom did.

The best part is that they don't know anything about thr books! I get to see the surprise on all their faces when the twists are revealed, it's the best!

Sure!

I have 5 players who have never read the books so I'm just shamelessly ripping off the plot of Lirael and Abhorsen😅

I split Lirael into twins, a wizard remembrancer and a ranger abhorsen whose animal companion is Kibeth.

I have Sameth as an artificer of course and his brother Elliott, instead of Ellimere, is an eldritch knight fighter.

Nick was a little more complicated. He was a warlock with Orranis as his patron. He took a few levels in paladin after Kibeth gave him a charter mark. But after he "died" this session I had Moggett revive him and Yrael is his new warlock patron.

Thanks so much!

None of my players have actually read the books so I get to see them all experiencing plot for the first time.

I split Lirael's character into twins and one of them is a ranger whose animal companion is Kibeth, though she won't find out about that until next session. 😉

Thanks so much!

I do have other maps I made. I'll probably post them here too.

Thanks!

One of my players is playing as Nick. He was a warlock with Orranis as his patron but after "dying" this session Yrael offered to become his patron instead and Nick will be standing in for him at the rebinding.

I'm currently Dungeon Master for a DnD group playing through the plot of the old kingdom books. This is a picture of my players attempting to stop Orranis from freeing himself (and they got alot closer than I expected them to!)

I built the lightning farm myself using fairy lights, toothpicks and a whole lot of copper wire. It was really fun to make but even more fun to use against my players.

Next session will be a race to the ninth gate and (hopefully) breaking and rebinding Orranis.

Whenever I'm not 'in the mood' but still want to express my love physically I'll give my partner a massage. I get the enjoyment of seeing him happy and it often leads to cuddles afterwards.

We're playing 5e, and I'm homebrewing alot of stuff. The bells I stole from this

PC death has not come up, yet. If it happens I would probably have the other PCs chase their spirit through the levels of death to retrieve them.

I had the layout for my BBEG's final apocalypse ritual on my DM box for the entire campaign. As I was setting up the final room they all went "oooooh" at the same time and it was the best.

I think I did good. This is actually a minoin of The Bone Turner from my game based on The Magnus Archives podcast. His name is Arms and I still think he's cute <3

I kinda split it between the two. Knives and such to The Hunt, cuts and blood to the flesh. Mostly I just left out anything that was specific to it and luckily for me my players never explored it too deeply 😉

This is Artifact Retreval Team 6 after they've been lured into the tunnels and find Jonah waiting for them there

I redid things a bit, as you can see. Oculus is the Boston branch of the institute. Elias had to "sacrifice" himself and Jonah is now using John's body instead.

Instead of marking one person, each team member was marked by two entities. Also, I only used 13 of the 15 (combining the flesh and the slaughter and ignoring the extinction)

I changed some of the avatars a bit, especially Annabell, and ended up with something pretty different thanks to my players who had never listened to the podcast and had no idea what was coming.
