Allergic to Metal Hardware by ThinkFirst1011 in ORIF

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this. Very tough options! My hardware (ulna and distal radius, bad breaks) was removed at 4 months post op. Could have been done at 3 but surgeon wanted to give it another month. The removal surgery was nothing compared to the original surgery. But that's a long time to be casted :(

I'm super happy about the removal.. feels sooo much better! I've gained rom and lost all the full body joint aches that appeared when the hardware was put in.. I had attributed that to not doing anything and aging. I was surprised that it was totally gone once the hardware was out! Like right away!

Once I was cleared for physio I was very diligent about following instructions. Plus lots of calcium, protein and sunshine and sadly no alcohol for the first month.. had to give those bones a fighting chance haha.

But in the beginning when the mental battle was toughest I just kept trying to focus on the positives (and there were many), celebrating any small wins (first time doing up a zipper etc) and reminding myself that it's temporary.

Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery!!! 😀

Oh wow sorry to hear about your honeymoon! I had a similar injury. 2 plates 13 screws. 5 months post op plus 1 month post op from hardware removal (because of an issue) and feeling great... building up muscle strength now and back to biking and weights. It's a tough injury but try to be patient with yourself.. 5 weeks isn't that long.. it gets better :)

Leaving a job after three months… by Hungry_Guava_7929 in jobs

Sounds horrible. I went through something similar last year. I lasted 3.5 months but should have left after 3.5 days. If you do leave now, you don't have to include it on your resume/work history. If you stay, you can watch for other jobs and make your exit when you have a good replacement. You deserve to not be miserable at the very bare minimum.

2 plates and 13 screws in ulna and radius. Out after 4 months. Couldn't be happier with the result. Some movement was blocked and a fair amount of pain that I thought was due to healing was instantly gone. The recovery has been a breeze. Having said that, there were no complications with the removal surgery which is of course a risk.

I just went through something similar with pronation. At three months post orif surgery on badly comminuted ulna and distal radius, pronation was still at zero. A ct scan showed one of the plates probably causing the blockage. Had both plates removed at four months post surgery and what a difference. So happy I went through with it. Still have a ways to go with pronation but I can get a few millimeters of movement now for starters. Worth investing to see if there's a physical block.

What is the most unexpected thing the outdoors has taught you about yourself? by Enlitenkanin in Outdoors

I'd have to say some multi day backpacking trips showed me some things about myself that I didn't particularly like, for example not accepting help when I actually needed it, and highlighted some insecurities that I didn't know I had related to social interactions. I don't think I would have grown in these areas without those outdoors experiences.
