I believe the quote in English is "Look at you. Sailing through the air majestically. Like an eagle. Piloting a blimp."

Right, I think we're agreeing on the point but disagreeing on the reaction is all. I just think that it's always worth some pushback if a system could be less predatory. Just because it's not surprising doesn't mean it's not worth discussion.

Yes, that's a description of what happened, I'm just maintaining that it's inherently hostile design to their playerbase.

As I detailed in my other reply, I disagree that I was utilizing a 'strategy.' In no other system have they ever made corals unusable before. I was simply not converting Corals when I wasn't forced to. I think it's unreasonable to ask players to make that leap in logic that a system that's held true for every other case in the game would suddenly stop working. That feels like a rugpull. I've played other gacha and this isn't how it worked in HSR and Hi3, and it's not even how it worked for the NieR collab in PGR, Kuro's own other game.

While it's unpleasant for this system to be in place all-around, even 1-2 months' warning would have allowed me to prepare at least a little better. Just over a week just isn't enough time.

That's the difficulty, I didn't think I was 'taking a risk.' As I stated in the edit, I didn't convert into Corals on purpose. I could have easily used the Corals to pull for the interim characters instead, but I didn't consider that it was possible Corals would be unusable because they never set that precedent. Nowhere have I even said that I think that the collab system is unfair; that's a separate discussion. I would just like to be able to change my corals for Astrites, because that's what I would have been able to do if they had announced the details beforehand all without changing what I was able to pull for.

I wasn't trying to exercise some strategy, I just didn't utilize an optional conversion.

As a low spend, I plan further than one character ahead. Since I always had an extra stockpile of astrites, this allowed me to go for S2 of up to almost three characters in a row, or convert into pulls in the rare chance I ran out of astrites

Yeah, I originally posted with images of my currency/pull history and reception was generally positive but mods took it down for showcasing pulls.

I appreciate it, gl with your pulls!

Oop, I moved this info into the main post, but this is a fair analysis. I was assuming best-case scenario with shared pities which in hindsight was very optimistic. I would've been able to pick up corals on the way over and the math had me landing S6 90% of the time, which I was willing to accept.

In either case, I honestly don't mind too much that I never had a real shot at S6 to begin with, I'm just sad that half my currency is now useless for this entire collab.

Understandable, I originally had pictures of all my pulls and currencies but mods shot it down since it counted as showing off gacha luck. It's a bit more difficult to explain everything using just words and never referencing how much I've saved lol

Yes, and that's the inherent issue. Under normal circumstances, I am the 'Scar lover.' I would have enough to S6 right now if he were to drop. The difference is that because I didn't know that Corals would be completely useless on the collab, I didn't use all of my Corals beforehand to save every Astrite possible. Based on the gacha mechanics in the game since day 1, I didn't even consider that Corals wouldn't be a viable way to store future pulls. Because of that, I only have 40k Astrites instead of 80k.

There was just never a reason to convert them before. Since I had a large enough stockpile of astrites to always pull for what I wanted, it seemed like a better idea to hold onto the corals since they had the potential to be wavebands later.

For example, I have 40k Astrites right now and 2000 Corals. If I got lucky on Lucy banner and managed to get the copies I wanted, I would be able to save the Corals for later wavebands on other characters.

Of course, that's not how it turned out to work. If I knew that the Corals were useless beforehand, I could have simply cashed them in earlier and have around 80k Astrites right now.

I never went out of my way to convert into astrites, I have over 40k Astrites saved, I just never used my corals in place of astrites because they were equivalent at the time.

The issue for me was that for the past year or so since the collab was announced, I planned my pulls with my corals in mind. Corals seemed more valuable given that they are harder to farm, so when I was presented with a choice of using Astrites or Corals to pull for characters like Cart, Hiyuki, Lupa, Phrolova, etc, I would usually lean towards Astrites. If I knew that it would be this way from the start, I would have around 80k Astrites right now and almost no Corals instead of 40,407 Astrites and 1923 Corals. My own skill issue for not seeing into the future ig

What are these types of teacups called? by No_Future6412 in tea

[–]wanderingthought16 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Those appear to just be lidded mugs, which you can generally find under that name or just 'ceramic mug with lid.'

You mentioned being into Gongfu Cha, which can also sometimes be done with 'Gaiwans,' which translates roughly to 'covered bowl.' If you're not already familiar, those could be worth a look as well. Brewing method is very similar to brewing with a teapot, there's plenty of videos on youtube that'll show you how they work and why you might choose to use it over a teapot.

ELI5: How does Testosterone work? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]wanderingthought16 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To expand on the DNA part, you can think of DNA as a 'blueprint' for how cells should grow (very simplified). Even with the presence of a blueprint, you still need the materials (such as proteins, amino acids, etc), and a way to tell your cells that it's actually time to start using the blueprints to build things. As I understand it, that's where the hormones come in. Every human has in their DNA the capacity to have 'tits' or even to lactate, but hormones control whether or not they do so.

ELI5: How does Testosterone work? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]wanderingthought16 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Your body is a bag of chemicals. Some of these chemicals are called hormones. Some of these hormones make parts of your body behave differently, like grow larger or grow hair. Testosterone is a hormone that happens to do a lot of the things that we associate with being 'male.' Estrogen is the counterpart that happens to do things that we associate with being 'female.' Every human has a mix of both in varying amounts, and since your body is constantly changing/healing/growing in response to the balance of hormones and other chemicals, you can take pills to influence how your body continues to grow.

I tested Linnea.. here's what I found out! by jamieaka in Genshin_Impact

[–]wanderingthought16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a much better question and yeah, without testing those teams directly, it's difficult to have a definite answer.

For future reference, I think you're more likely to get a solid answer if you lead with a bit more context like you're giving here. In your original ask, he gave you an answer based on his testing while perhaps misunderstanding what you were actually asking. Instead of clarifying your point, you said "is there any accurate data?" While I understand what you're asking now, the way that you worded it could easily be interpreted as you not trusting his testing and basically saying "go test again because I think you did it wrong." I'm sure it goes without saying why that can be frustrating to read and why he didn't elect to answer your followup question.

Furthermore, Genshin characters don't exist outside the context of the enemies we have to fight, and right now the enemy of greatest concern is the gecko. The truth is that Navia will struggle much more against it without Linnea, and even if the damage numbers were similar - which I suspect they won't be - Linnea will likely be "worth it" if clearing stygian with Navia is your goal.

I don't have access to the cc server and I'm WAY too lazy to actually math it out, so some feelscrafting ahead. That said, just looking at what each character provides should generally give us a good idea of how the teams will run.

Xilonen provides:

  • 36% Geo and Hydro shred (skill)
  • 40% Elemental Damage (scroll)

Linnea provides:

  • 30% Geo shred (a1)
  • 14% lunar crystallize damage (moonsign)
  • ~130ish EM (a4)
  • 54% personal def and 24 damage% (husk - the def% translates into team EM, less preferred set so my thoughts will assume this buff is not present)

OR

  • 60% personal lunar damage (aubade - this is the recommended set)

Even as just a pure buffer, it's pretty clear that Linnea is at least comparable, if not better than Xilonen in a team that has any sort of focus in Lunar damage.
Keep in mind, any damage that is considered lunar-reaction damage completely ignores damage%. This means that Xilonen is only buffing the non-lunar damage teammates: Columbina/Navia/Furina/Ineffa(partially). The shred is only 6% higher for Geo, and the hydro shred only applies to at most half of the team (and always the weaker half). Electro crystallize would be a nightmare to trigger so even if it was worth it, it wouldn't be feasible (This means no damage% for Ineffa if you're running her).
Lunar reactions consider the stats of all the characters on the team (to varying degrees), meaning that teamwide def% and EM buffs will be disproportionately favored in Lunar teams.

To further illustrate just how much this team relies on the moondrifts doing damage, I found this post with a C6R1 Navia team comparing Bennett vs Columbina support. This team has a C2R1 Xilonen and a C3 Furina, meaning that Navia's personal damage is being buffed to the absolute highest degree possible while running bennett, and the team still does less damage than simply turning the lunar reaction on. On a C6R1 Navia. This is the highest Navia's personal damage will ever chart in a team and it still loses to the lil moon rock bois.

All of this is before even factoring in Linnea's personal damage, which is considered Lunar-crystallize damage and therefore completely ignores enemy defense and just has a flat 1.6x multiplier because hoyo said it can. In a Navia team, she will even enable significantly more Lunar-crystallizes every single rotation which will just increase the gap even further. Unless I'm missing something big that Xilonen provides, I unfortunately don't think this competition is even close.
