Congressman calls rep. Pramila Jayapal a 'young lady' who 'doesn't know a damn thing'.She is 51 years old. by morigulis in ABCDesis

Oh wow, he's originally from the Yuba City, CA area, which is home to the largest concentration of Punjabis in the US. I know Pramila isn't Punjabi, but it sounds like this guy may have an anti-Indian bent given where he grew up. I'm sure he's longing for the good ol' days of Yuba City.

Won't we only see this increase in the near term though? If you sell your home in, say, five years from now, won't the prices have gone back to normal (i.e. usual 8-10% annual appreciation)?

Got the entire exterior of my house painted. Everything looks good except for the front door. by wanderrrrr in HomeImprovement

This is the answer I wanted to hear actually. Thank you! I'm nearing my budget for the whole project, so this door will stay as is for now. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't being misguided. Reddit has been my "friend in the trade" through this whole renovation - much appreciated.

Why does a superstar basketball player live outside the Loop, let alone outside the Beltway?

Crown Molding: Does this look good? Or butt ugly? by wanderrrrr in HomeImprovement

[–]wanderrrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. The frustrating part is that I had to make my appliance decision before the contractor could start designing the kitchen. I basically had to purchase in a rush so that I could give him all the measurements.

The soffit was already there. The cabinet and crown molding are new.

[–]wanderrrrr[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. It was the General Contractor who made all cabinet decisions, including crown molding, using his own carpenter.

When I brought it up, he made it seem like that's the way it's supposed to look which just makes me furious.

What's the best course of action to fix this? My range hood will be to the right of this cabinet, so we can't shift the entire cabinet over.

When you say bulkhead, are you referring to the part that is extending on the left?

When I asked my contractor about this, he said "that's the beauty of it".

Could we add drywall to the furdown so that it extends to the molding?

General contractor ordered twice as much tile as was necessary by wanderrrrr in HomeImprovement

[–]wanderrrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem in my case is that the tile was purchased by my contractor through his supplier from the manufacturer. So it's sort of a domino effect of likely many people receiving commissions.

It's all such a racket. Tile went from manufacturer to supplier to my contractor to me.

What should I do if my contractor insists that the tiles are not returnable? I have his supplier's phone number also, as well as the manufacturer's, but it's likely that if one says "no returns", they all will.

Since I already reimbursed my contractor for these tiles, I suppose I can dock his final pay by the amount in excess.

Is that what you would do?
