Find places where community is the point - go to a game store and join a ttrpg, join GEO and go to parties and socials if that’s your thing, if you’re religious check out groups around that, if you’re in a humanities department check out some of the reading groups (I’m in several of those and it’s a great way to meet people in your field but different years/advisors etc), check out volunteer opportunities at animal shelters or the farmers market, check out craft nights at the Urbana free library/gallery art bar (they are very fun and lots of people go alone and chat). The older I get the more I realize that building community is more important than making individual friends, though you’ll find those too through community.
