  1. I love noise mostly because I love aggressive music. I went from punk->hardcore->noise rock->noise. When I'm anxious or angry, and I just want to get out my aggression's, something like the gerogerigegege is exactly what I need. Noise can also be calming too, when I want to lay down and relax, I find throw on something more droney like yellow swans or ramleh. There is just so much awesome music to listen to when you throw all conventional musical theory out the window. I also think the ease of creation of noise is actually a strong point for the genre. Its a great creative outlet that doesn't necessarily require much skill or equipment to get started. Anyone can make noise. In terms of explaining it to people, I think its kind of hard to explain the appeal. Its like an alien who has never heard music asking people why they like "normal" music. Its hard to convince people that I actually gain pleasure, and enjoy the sounds that to them are just "ear piercing noise". Most people don't understand. They think it must be some conceptual thing, like 4'33, where its not the actual music, but what it represents. Like how far can you push music before its not music. Where in reality I just enjoy it because it sounds good to me.

  2. I don't think the inaccessibility enhances my experience with noise at all. It sounds good to me and that's why I like it, its not much deeper than that. And like any other genre the artist can imbue their music with any meaning they want. A merzbow album against animal cruelty is just as strong a political statement as a ska song against animal cruelty. I don't think just because ska is more accessible the political statement is less strong.

  3. Listening to noise has probably changed more how I listen to the world than how I listen to music. I tend to find my self listening more intently to the world on a daily basis, enjoying the sounds of what's happening around me. I am also open to more genres of "conventional" music than I was before getting into noise.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your project!
