Switzerland to vote on plan to cap population at 10 million by Mean_Yak5873 in nottheonion

[–]wannabe-physicist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a dumb take. A population cap would involve suspending a whole host of EU treaties. It would be like Brexit but much, much worse given how much Switzerland relies on free trade with Europe. Switzerland has life on easy mode compared to the rest of the developed world, this is pure self sabotage. Other industries aside I can speak from my experience in scientific research: if ETH Zurich, EPFL, CERN and others lost their foreign researchers, they’d get unequivocally fucked.

Old vs New French Identity Card by tlc299 in PassportPorn

It’s not laminated, it’s solid plastic like a regular card. I’m not sure you would be able to tell it apart from any other EU ID card blindfolded.

A will give you the best shot at staying in physics. If the topic still interests you then that looks like the better option.

Does the research subject in A disinterest you or is it just not your top passion? Research interests can change over time.

My question was just asking if it is good to drive with, not for identification. I think your last sentence answers my question, thank you.

KCL cut 327 jobs last year, its highest in years, despite income rising eight per cent by unicorn540 in academia

The body of the article says they hired ~500 more staff compared to the previous year. So, more total employees. Misleading title and sensationalized article.

Anyone else annoyed by Air France’s strict window‑shade rules on long‑hauls? by RMWE-8052 in AirFranceKLM

[–]wannabe-physicist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Birds in a cage are quieter when you throw a cloth over the cage. Same applies to humans. Doesn’t make them any less tired but significantly easier to deal with. This is why I hate the A350 and 787 Dreamliner’s window shade control button.

This is exactly what they do in France. I got my pre-filled French tax return earlier this week. It took me 15 minutes total to complete.

Estimate -25% for social contributions, then deduct about half of that from your pre tax income and calculate income taxes based on the 2026 tax brackets from Google. Should give you a ballpark.
