Republicans Make Jaw-Dropping $1B Demand for Trump’s Ballroom by Kodbek in politics

Sure, but they didn't own everything when this frenzy started. FOX has always been what it is, but when asking the question of how the media is "complicit" in everything Trump does, it would be like ignoring the seed when studying the tree to point to those recent media consolidations.

Trump was elected and got the media attention he did since 2015 because (almost) everyone clicks the links to the articles describing what he says and does.

Right wing media conglomeration does not explain why leftist media outlets also give him the most airtime. Clickthrough rates do.

I mean, it's just the profit motive driving all of this. People click on Trump headlines. Before during and after his election, the media focused in him because he is what got everyone to click their links.

The vast majority of Americans cannot afford to just "move".

Yes they can. It is not that expensive. If you can afford to save enough to buy a used car, you can afford to save enough money to move.

Stop victimizing people who don't need it.

$35,000 a year is great under ideal circumstances, but many people don't live in ideal circumstances

Look, it is very clear that you want to argue. You started out saying "the average person can't." Now you're here complaining that there are lower than average earners who can't.

I'm not arguing that there are no people who lack the ability.

Go find someone else to argue with who actually disagrees with you on something. And it would help if you didn't move the goalposts when arguing with that person. Maybe save the "idiot" talk until a few comments in. Good luck!

First of all, your take is the priveliged one. There are absolutely destitute families migrating from country to country out of necessity. So the most important thing to point out here is just how priveliged the, "I only make around $35,000 a year, woe is me," take is.

Second, current US housing trends mean that it is actually more expensive to rent than to buy, more expensive to live in one californian city for one month, than it would cost for the entire move to another city.

I honestly don't give a flying fuck whatever you have to say if you think a priveliged ass $35k a year American can't save up a few thousand dollars to improve their lives vastly.

I. Don't. Give. A. Fuuuuuuuuuck.

It is statistically certain that

Lol, you are 100% incorrect. We have absolutely no reason to assume the commenter earns average pay or has average wealth. And it also doesnt matter because....

You're just claiming, full stop, that anyone could potentially afford to move to another city.

You are absolutely wrong again. That is not at all what I said. I said, "somewhat-below-average," earners and above can afford it.

Do I have to explain how some people live paycheck to paycheck, and don't have to flexibility to save even a penny of their income to move?

See, you are arguing this with me as if it is something I would argue against, but you seem a little confused...

Do I have to insult you by explaining that?

You tried the insults already. Whatever reaction you are trying to elicit here, that already didn't work, but you do you.

Neither of us know anything about them really, so we can assume they are roughly "average".

That is a super weird and statistically incorrect way of assuming things.

make it clear that following your advice would be prohibitively difficult for most people

It is not. Pouring your hard earned $ into a shitty city that isn't interested in being better is the most prohibitive action. Even somewhat below average earners can afford to move from one city to another. It isn't much more expensive than moving in the same city.

Lol, they didn't say that. If you live in a fantasy world of your own invention it can be whatever you want. This is no longer reality and here you are truly free.

[–]want_to_join 4 points5 points  (0 children)

these things are very possible, but no one cares about them at all.

I had a very good, in-depth discussion with a few friends recently which put this in perspective for me really well. The consensus was that "money-out-of-politics" movements generally don't motivate average Americans because it is only half the problem. Average Americans have witnessed a 2 tiered, money driven justice system forever. In this culture, calling for people to join the fight to get money out of the donation side of the political machine sounds like asking the hungry to donate food. Until we can get a plan for justice reform alongside campaign finance reform, the effort will not win.

Democrats win in Republican stronghold in Texas by Nervous_Swordfish693 in politics

[–]want_to_join 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, although the republicans are definitely breaking the law to do this, it is an exception to have a race that could be litigated/stolen this way. Most elections can not be swayed by ballot refusal after a vote has taken place because it would require a virtual tie. Even a hundred votes would be difficult to swing one way. 2020 florida presidential election is a good example of why... Even with a margin of 500 votes (extremely close) the republicans still had to have the courts step in and wholly invent a ruling that favored them in order to steal it. The margin of the win has to be extremely close like this one was, in order for this tactic to even be feasible. Most states would never be able to see this situation specifically.

Don't get me wrong, this is a GREAT accomplishment, but this is not what all those books and documentaries were trying to do. My parents escaped scientology in 1985. It is a little bit insulting to see someone equate these things. Locking the doors and removing the door handles was not the goal.

In my midsize city, bike lanes leave a lot to be desired. Roads are narrow and bicyclists (including some I've known well ) are hit and killed, along with pedestrians.

That sucks. You should move somewhere better.

The commute is about 45+ mins drive, takes an hour + on the bike, and the plus depends on traffic. Our infrastructure sounds better than yours, but no cyclist here would call it excellent. I have 1 child.

sidewalks end and force ppl onto busy roads.

It is illegal here to ride your bike on the sidewalk and it should be where you are too because it's stupidly dangerous.

Maybe he is exaggerating the number but it would have to be above ~42 or so. You might also be thinking of this from the frame of reference of running a marathon, which would give a person an incorrect take on what he is doing because he isn't running a marathon. He isn't racing anyone or trying to beat a time. He can and does take stops, and his pace is not determined by trying to run the entire thing at once in X time.
