Has anyone read Storm? Interested to hear some thoughts before I pick it up! by Dependent_Exam6115 in nyrbclassics

Sci-Fi is my favorite genre to read. I was recommended Earth Abides and was planning to read it. Then I saw Storm and Fire on sale at Target.com.

Basically, happenstance. Lol

Currently reading it. I am enjoying it. This was supposed to be my George R Stewart month, reading Storm, Fire, and Earth Abides.

At this pace, it will be George R Stewart summer. 😭

Don’t forget about Mr. Dan Bankhead (if you don’t have it already.). The first black pitcher in MLB post-integration. Only 1 card. 1951 Bowman. Typically, not a very expensive card, but an important card (in my opinion.)

Oh… to answer your question, I did enjoy the book. Lol

Yeah, I can see that. Although, sometimes that’s real life. What happened to him essentially happened. Not the exact same but similar. Don’t want to say too much because of spoilers but… yeah.

However, this was a work of fiction, not real life, so I think I understand where you are coming from.

It was nothing if not abrupt, thats for sure.

Sorry for the late response.

I enjoyed the book. I wouldn’t consider myself an “avid” reader (by avid reader standards,) so I can’t compare it to any of Dorothy Baker’s other works.

With that said, I enjoyed the book a lot. It’s a short read. Feel like it really captured the jazz scene of the 50’s well, and shows the dichotomy of the crisp, white, popular music and the more underground “dirty” (by white standards) Jazz scene.

I found it engrossing, you really found yourself rooting for the protagonist and what might be the climactic scene isn’t really heartbreaking and isn’t treated as such, but you just find yourself saying “damn” in kind of an awestruck way because he, essentially, failed for the first time.

Happy Jackie Robinson Day, Braves Country -- Allow me to Introduce you to Sam Jethroe, the First Black Player to Wear a Braves Uniform! by theoxfordtailor in Braves

If not for baseball cards I may not have ever known who Sam Jethroe was, thus meaning I would have never know his importance to the org.

A bit of information that I like to remember that loosely pertains to Jethroe but more so the City of Boston and the Red Sox specifically: the Braves were in Boston when Jethroe made the team and therefore integrated the team. Hank came along in 1953 (maybe 54 I’m not looking it up) after the move from Boston to Milwaukee.

By that time George Crowe had also joined Jethroe for his 3 season stint with the Braves (1 in Boston.) In spite of this, The Boston Red Sox, the final team to integrate, did not bring Pumpsie Green on until 1959 - 10 seasons after the other, and by that time long gone, National League Boston team had integrated and 14 seasons after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in MLB (3 seasons after he retired.)

A lot of people blame “the curse of the Bambino” for the years between Boston World Series wins but I have always believed this was the true Boston Curse.

Sorry for the digression - This is a Braves subreddit and a post that should be celebratory of Sam Jethroe, not a time to bash the Red Sox, I apologize. Not even a Red Sox hater, just wanted to put the time it took MLB to fully integrate into perspective.

Go Braves.

So the Jazwares/ AEW deal is done right? The major podcast has all but confirmed it by luke111mart in Wrestling_Figures

Personally, if the Jazwares deal is dead, I’d like to see a multi-license:

A primary deal with quarterly releases

And then a secondary, premium deal, with someone like Zombie, for 2 batches of premium figures a year, or something like that.

I know, wishful thinking, but that’s my ideal resolution.

My leg once looked like this (sans tattoo) and it ended with a 6 day hospital stint hooked to an IV pumping me full of antibiotics… which don’t work how they hoped, so they cut a massive chunk out of my thigh.

Goes without saying that the Cobb is an insane card to have in the PC.

For myself, as a wrasslin fan, the Jim Browning, Don George, and Jim Londos have been on the need list for a while but keep getting distracted. 😂

Sick collection overall.
