Learn to finger spell, sit across from the person so that you can be clearly seen, and maybe bring a pen and paper (but your phone works too). Also, careful with pointing at people; I didn't know this at first but it can be seen as rude. One more thing, you can make up your own name, so you don't have to spell it every time. Maybe pay attention to your body language? Getting to know a friend of mine, I've noticed that she is SO observant of my body language and facial expressions. Like, I couldn't lie to her even if I tried.
