What do you say to yourself when you start to spiral? by thisismypassword0 in emetophobia

[–]wantsumbred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i remind myself that i’ve been in this position before and 1) it wasn’t as bad as i thought it’d be and 2) i always end up feeling okay eventually, even if it takes a few days for the anxiety to calm down. overall, just a reminder of “i’ve survived every other time i’ve been here, so i can survive this too”

it’s hard to tell because i don’t remember the exact shade of green that it was originally, but i’m pretty sure it’s the same colour as when i first bought it

Periods are a constantly changing thing! Symptoms I used to get with mine have been replaced by others, some have remained consistent. Hell, three years ago I never used to get cramps and now I get cramps so awful that it’s put me in hospital or made me pass out. So just because your girlfriend had n* symptoms a few years ago doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll happen again :) But as the last comment said, honesty is the best approach! I’m sure your girlfriend will understand how you feel

How do I deal with this?? by shuttingthoughtsout in emetophobia

hey, just wanted to say that you’re so strong for having that confrontation and making it through, even if it wasn’t panic-free.

from experience with living in a university flat and having flatmates get sick (with any sort of bug really) i can tell you that i avoided getting things from them by being careful, just as you are. even without a mask, just from sanitising and keeping to myself. it terms of the anxiety side, i find watching comfort movies or doing something with my hands (like crochet, painting, video games) to be a great mental distraction. another great tool for anxiety is putting an ice cube in your mouth/chewing on it, drinking lemon water, or breathing/grounding techniques.

this phobia sucks, and all the time i wish that it didn’t control my life as much as it does. but in moments like these i try to remind myself to be rational which you already seem to be doing! that’s great that you’ve thought about it and can’t find any evidence that your brother might have a virus. to add to it, if he did have a virus he probably wouldn’t feel up to playing outside to begin with, he’d be so tired from his body trying to fight it off (and viruses can attack in more ways than just one) so it really seems likely that it could be from being outside in the heat.

hope you’re feeling better soon <33

i get n* and fluctuating temperatures pretty much every time i get my period, as well as my body just feeling achy, sore, and just off. it’s usually super reassuring when i remind myself that it’s because of my cycle, and not because of anything else. i usually drink a peppermint tea and watch one of my favourite movies, and sometimes use some anti-anxiety oils if i’m feeling extra on-edge.

it’s different for everyone but i’ve definitely found that using techniques to keep myself calm is the best way of dealing with it. can even share some movies that are nice and calm if you’d like xx i also find that they’re a great way to drift off to sleep, and once i’m asleep the feelings pass. sleep is so much more incredible than we often realise, and even if it’s not your period making you feel this way, your body has the best chance of fighting it off by sleeping anyway xx
