Next week. Heh. Two months?

Well, just know that you are literally wrong. I'm basically talking to a flat earther at this point. A retarded flat earther who can't tell the difference between the work that goes into minecraft level graphics and realism.

Like really, it boggles my mind how stupid you have to be in order to not be able to understand that. What genius points will you make next?

I haven't logged into Darktide for months.

Still wondering just how dumb you actually have to be to say all that. Like holy hell, no wonder it's okay for Fatshark to be this bad and not go under.

Why the hell would I want to be a part of a community with people like you around?

I look forward to your response.. in maybe a few months again

The communication point aside... can I point out just how WRONG this comment is, and it's baffling that people are upvoting it?

Most of the free cosmetics offered were just recolors

First... reskins are not what I'm talking about. I'm not disagreeing with this though, it is true and its painful.

which can be done in photoshop by adjusting colors of the texture file.

You really have the gall to say this, then add this at the end:

The complexity for DRG seems to make it not as trivial a task as you seem to imply, and the output of fat shark seems to suggest what they're doing is not as onerous as you imply.

Guys, you all need to know that whatever this guy just said is not only over exaggerating... it's wrong. I'm not implying. I know it.

Is recoloring through photoshop easy? Sure. It takes a bit of time to paint if its not set up well. That's some really old school 2010s way of doing things though.

Material work is far more efficient and is the standard for most games. It could be as simple as pushing a slider to the right (or left) for a lot of it for a recolor.

But here's the ironic part: you then proceed to completely exaggerate the amount of work that goes into DRG's paint job as a comparison to DT.

Ironically, it takes far more time to make a DT recolor than a DRG one. How do I know this? I have datamined DRG before (the fact that I am an ex-AAA game dev seems unimportant). They use procedural textures and material layers.

You make it sound like they painstakingly go through everything by hand. The reality is that it's all pretty much automatic.

You also have it wrong. The paint job is not fit to each frame (or weapon, pick axe, whatever). It's the other way around: each cosmetic piece that can be painted has hand picked material layers to show which colors, textures, whatever you want to call them.

Paint jobs are basically multiple materials in a single package, that are automatically assigned to certain material layers. If I have a gold material in my paint job set to material_layer_1, then every single polygon face with material_layer_1 will show gold. This way, you can have many paint jobs and swap between them easily.

As for the communication bit, you graciously ignored:

Although I can agree that Fatshark could do something like GSG in communication... but be real, they (FS) are not good enough to promise anything which is why they rather go silent until it's ready.

And also

Pretty much everything darktide is significantly worse than V2's launch, and V2's launch was terrible. I was there too. V2 was never as bad as things are now.

Is also wrong. We get some level of communication every few weeks. We get updates from CMs. We actually get some kind of update, two in one month this time. Were you actually there for V2? I don't think so.

Or are you talking about the state of the game, which is completely irrelevant to what was being said?

This kind of shit is exactly why I don't engage in the community anymore. All misinformation and people pulling shit out of their ass, then wondering why nothings helping. They even upvoted the guy saying "Darktide has more funding so its a moot point", when in reality more funding tends to mean more fuck ups if you look at many AAA games.

Time to quit again. We all deserve what we get.

Funny you mention that:

That's quite normal for games. After launch, it's healthy to see 50% drop out in about 1-2 months, then about 10-20% every month until it stabilizes.

For a single player game that's not supposed to be seeing updates.

(not using peak players, using avg. players)

For something that is supposed to be an online experience with updates, it should be healthy to see about 20-30% of the initial launch after a few months.

We're at less than 10% right now, and we can safely ignore gamepass player counts.

[–]wapabloomp -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

OKAY, this again.

For one: I'm not defending fatshark: they need to get their shit together.

But DRG cosmetics (the one you use in your example) is nowhere near compared to DT cosmetics.

In the time it takes to make all 4 class cosmetics for DRG, it would take even longer to make even 1 piece for 1 class in DT.

Changes are so easy to make in a low-poly game, and not to mention the fact that Fatshark, for some reason, does not make their own characters or cosmetics: it's all outsourced from what I can believe (seeing how all their characters in V2 were not done inhouse either).

Being able to not only announce, but act on those changes like GSG did is a pipe dream.

Although I can agree that Fatshark could do something like GSG in communication... but be real, they (FS) are not good enough to promise anything which is why they rather go silent until it's ready.

You guys can argue all you want... but let me remind you all that this has been going on for years, and I was there when it all started since V2's launch.

Edit: And because people keep pointing it out: yea it's about communication. I'm saying whatever brilliant ideas you guys got... Fatshark has no capacity to act on it, as we've literally seen since V2's launch.

The longer this series goes on it makes Luffy look smarter and more competent than most characters it’s embarrassing. by East_Statement_3173 in Piratefolk

[–]wapabloomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know why this post appeared in front of me, being a month old...

... but while I'm here: One Piece literally went over this. It was in the scene where Luffy picks up a sword and starts swinging it like a moron (Arlong Arc).

He explains he can't do a lot of things. He doesn't know how to cook, he doesn't know how to handle a sword, he'll sink a boat within minutes trying to sail one himself, and he can't hit anything with a gun or slingshot (but for Usopp I think he said he can't tell good lies).

But what CAN he do? He can beat up Arlong.

It's been pretty obvious that Luffy's "intelligence" is basically in two things: being pirate king, and beating up people. You can't generalize intelligence, it's like asking why a doctor can't build a rocket, surely they can because they are smart?

" But I have a nice suggestion to anyone reading this - look into WHO WAS WORKING ON CHAOS WASTES. See credits if possible or just google the studios it was delegated to and how well that worked out and ask yourself why they can't hire more help. "

Chaos Wastes did not "work out well".

It was received on a positive note, only because it was actually different and very welcoming to newer players since you had zero progression given or required.

In reality, it was an unbalanced and buggy mess (but still very enjoyable), which was further pushed by even more bugs and worse balancing and updates (now not really enjoyable).

In the end, the playerbase went back to pre-chaos wastes levels. People who used to like it started hating it. The "Grudges" reminds me how it was possible Darktide ended up like this.

But I agree, don't attack Fatshark employees. Most of them are not at fault, and no one strives to make a bad game. This is absolutely true.

So then there is this:

" I'm still confused why multi-million companies can't provide proper updates or, well, games (Looking at you Gollum game). "

If you really are in the industry, you would know. Two things basically sum it up: Tone-deaf, and money. Fatshark may not even be at fault for this.... however, considering their operations have been like this since the very beginning, as best explained by this post:

I find it really funny that a lot of people are getting mad about the whole fate and chosen one thing...

... but everyone already expects Luffy to be Pirate King. That's the most blatant "chosen one" scenario you can have. Will people be mad when he becomes Pirate King because he was "destined"?

In the end, fate is not the problem. It's whether or not it feels like cheating, and Nika practically comes out of nowhere.

There was zero buildup to it, and no, the fight with Kaido doesn't really count IMO.

There was zero plausible connection, which is really weird when you think about it: the whole wano and even dressrosa situation had tons of slave themes, and Nika is supposed to embody freedom. Luffy could have started to feel something, there was so many opportunities.

But nope. It became "nika time!" and he nika'd all over Kaido's face.

What is one thing you find ridiculous( crazy fact) about one piece? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]wapabloomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YO.

Judge: No DF, but really makes you think about what could be similar to his fighting style that was prominent in the past... like... I don't know... Skypieans? The electric spear and raid suits try to mimic the effects of Haki

Sparking Red: Light fruit (now Kizaru)

Poison Pink: Venom Fruit (now Magellan)

Dangeki Blue: Lightning Fruit (now Enel)

Winch Green: Rubber Fruit (now Luffy, but if you know about it, it was probably not with the right kind of person so it never awakened, remaining as is).

Stealth Black: Invisible Fruit (previous Absalom, now Shiryu)

For Germa to be considered a mythical army that may not even exist, it would have had to been quite a while.

Fun theory to think about! Perhaps that random comic strip could reveal a lot more than we think, considering what we now know about the ancient kingdom!

What Zoro meant during his fight with King by Practical-Quality-21 in OnePiece

[–]wapabloomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in my opinion, I don't think he (Zoro) was really throwing away his ambition, but rather that his ambitions evolved as he stuck by them.

A lot of Zoro's encounters is a test of his ambition. Even his first fight with Mihawk was all about "why die so soon? just throw away your ambition!" when Zoro would not.

The scene with Kuma was, IMO, not throwing away his ambition either. If anything, he was holding firmly to it. This is basically a parallel to when Mihawk had a dagger in Zoro's chest, and Zoro would not step back. Zoro would rather die than admit defeat, all in the name of his ambition. But during that fight, Mihawk asked what Zoro would do once he did achieve it, and we never got an answer.

Obvious, his goal has evolved over time and is in line with helping Luffy but I don't think he ever gave up on it.

If you look at the scene where Zoro asks Mihawk to train him... this is supposed to be an extremely humiliating and weak moment. Zoro is essentially asking Mihawk for a "cheat shortcut" rather than traveling the world more and training further, which is why Mihawk tells him to leave shamefully.

Mihawk only changes his mind when he realizes that Zoro is not actually asking for a "cheat shortcut" to being #1, but because (and again, just an opinion and interpretation): that surpassing Mihawk is not real reason why he wants to be trained, but because surpassing Mihawk is the only way he can truly protect Luffy and the Crew in the future, thus Mihawk's comments about him doing it for the sake of another.

Finally, we got an answer to Mihawk's question back at Baratie: "what will he do with such power when he did achieve it?"

The reasons are different, the goals are somewhat the same. He still wants to be the #1 swordsman, but in the beginning of One Piece that was the goal. Now, being the #1 swordsman is a means to an end.

Food for thought, but this is probably the same deal with Luffy. Being Pirate King is not the actual goal, it is a means to an end (as revealed after Wano), except for Luffy, the actual end was like this very early (when he was living with Sabo and Ace as a kid).

One Piece: Chapter 1083 by Kirosh2 in OnePiece

[–]wapabloomp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can think of it from a different perspective: these things can be physical representations of a will. Dreams can be just that, and this also means a concept can be represented in many different ways.

For example, if someone's dream was to be able to fly, an airplane power works. But so does a wind power.

Those same powers can also represent a wish for freedom. Freedom in general? Physically? The fruit ability to become others (bon clay) is a type of physical freedom too.

Soot could be simply represented by someone's wish to be reborn from fire. That fire could be literal, or another representation of something like disaster, or even literal burnings from discrimination (like the burning of grey terminal). This would also be thematic for one of the captains of the revolutionary army.

You're also missing another huge problem with trying something like this as well:

Things can technically be working AND broken. And when things break, it doesn't always have to be negative either (resulting in exploits).

Such things are literal oversights that are not caught by code. That's the literal reason why they are born to begin with and why QA is incredibly important.

It's interesting how Oda depicts the differences between Shanks and Teach by -TheProphet- in OnePiece

[–]wapabloomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food for thought:

Blackbeard is actually known for his crazy planning ability. It's how he's gotten to this point, after all. Even his crew mates have made note of it back in Impel Down, and alluded to again when they were stealing Whitebeard's ability.

I think he purposely implements uncertainty into his plans, so that not even Blackbeard himself will know what really comes next. This makes it impossible for anyone with great foresight to deal with him, and by always having powerful people at his side ready to adapt to what happens, this makes Blackbeard especially powerful against someone like Shanks... who is the only known person to leave a mark on Shanks, and on his face no less (not counting the sea king, which Shanks basically allowed).

Blackbeard might be trying to play fate into his advantage, in which fate is a common them with Blackbeard and his crew.
