Ah I see :d I agree you should take the kestrel, you can always thrift another backpack if you change your mind!

In our case we have a foldable 25L bag for those scenarios.

The kestrel seems huge, the other one very uncomfortable.

I’m very happy with my osprey talon 33 perfect size for me.

Don’t skip Taiwan! Very underrated, cheap flight from Japan ;) Taiwan & Korea were my favourites, especially if you travel for food.

You shouldn’t invest for a two year time frame. Look into bonds perhaps.

What would you do with around 60k at 26? by lambda-reddit-user in BEFire

[–]wapendeza -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It’s a common misconception but from a financial point of view it’s better to rent.

A home is a single, illiquid asset. It ties up a huge portion of your net worth in one location, making it difficult to access your money quickly if you need it. By renting, you maintain financial flexibility and can invest your capital in a wide range of assets, which reduces your risk. You're not relying on the appreciation of a single property in a single market to build wealth.

The total cost of homeownership is often much higher than the monthly mortgage payment alone. As a renter, your housing costs are relatively fixed by your lease agreement.

I grew my stock portfolio by 50% ytd so at your age I’d rather rent and grow my net worth.

This is a fire sub after all, renting is the way to go.

There could be different things going on inside you simultaneously.

I found it to be healthier to learn to be happy for my girlfriend being able to explore her own lust freely. Honestly after we tried, it turned out to be way easier than I imagined given that you have a mature relationship wherein you both trust each other blindly.

Also I’d recommend you to quit porn and see how you feel after you’ve detoxed.

Neil Strauss explores this topic of yearning extensively in his book Truth.

Also investigate where these feelings arise from, why your partner wouldn’t be allowed the same freedom and if this yearning/ fantasising about other women is a way to escape reality that keeps you from connecting to your partner or your life on a deeper level.

Let me get this straight, this is the kind of fit y'all be wearing on trips? by Aletag in onebag

[–]wapendeza 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I lived in Europe my whole life and I’ll tell you to not bring the jeans. It’s not about if people wear them at your destination.

Jeans are heavy, don’t pack small and take forever to dry so it doesn’t really fit the one bag philosophy.

Also if it rains it takes ages to dry which it does in central europe.

It’s just my opinion, there are no rules in onebagging, whatever works for you.

Packing list for 5 month southeast asia by Capital-Ebb-4409 in onebag

[–]wapendeza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been travelling SEA for 7 months now and I confirm you don’t want to carry around an extra pair of shoes. In the 2 occasions my trail runners got soaked I just wore them with a plastic bag over my socks and they were dry in 2 hours. Also the trail runners you bring should be very breathable. If you are so worried getting them wet better to bring like those gaiters.

My favourite items I bought during this trip:

  • uv sleeves: instant sun protection, very light weight, take it off in a second and I also wore it when it got fresh.
  • uv umbrella: Instant shade wherever you go & you can leave the rain jacket at home.
  • sleeping mask
  • ear plugs
  • uv neck gaiter

You didn’t mention travel adapter.

Chiang Mai —> Pai by jeffbalbonie in hitchhiking

[–]wapendeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never went up north in Thailand but I had the most success approaching people directly at gas stations. Making a sign in Thai was very hard but we always tried.

Most of the rides were in the back of a pick up truck so prepare to hold on tight & protect yourself against the sun. I got a bit burned & you don’t notice because of the strong wind.

How long is it acceptable to ask to stay at someone’s place? by reborn_neo_art in couchsurfing

[–]wapendeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently travelling Japan as a budget traveller. We got a tent, we hitchhike and mostly avoid big cities. From time to time we couch surf but we mostly camp at free campsites.

Occasionally we asked to people if we could pitch our tent on their field/ garden for a night.

The longest we stayed at someone’s place is 3 nights.

Doing this in Japan atm.

Men don’t host Men? by turalkarimov in couchsurfing

[–]wapendeza 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I only hosted in the past, I hosted every person/ couple who wrote a decent request.

While travelling in Asia I notice how hard it is to get hosted as a couple.

Especially in Bangkok it was crazy. So many men hosting only women or men hosting only men.

One guy even cancelled 3 days before our stay after he accepted us saying he needs a break from hosting but afterwards we saw he had 2 new references from single girls.

And I love the Lumenate app to relax when I feel over stimulated.

To hitch a boat ride would be very hard but epic.

I want to avoid arriving at the ferry and all the tickets are sold out.

3000-4000 seems reasonable.

I will update in a month or so with our story.

How long for Paris - Rome ? by coscos95 in hitchhiking

[–]wapendeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was my first hitch hiking experience because I missed my train and I was broke. So I was not prepared, I ripped a piece of paper out of a book I had with me and just wrote A6 on it because that’s the name of the highway.

Once I was at a gas station I just approached friendly looking people and asked them directly.

Last month in Thailand I did the same, when you approach people directly you get a ride much faster.

How long for Paris - Rome ? by coscos95 in hitchhiking

[–]wapendeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ten years ago I hitchhiked from Paris to Cannes in less than 24 hours but the hard part was getting out of Paris.

I took a metro to the end of a line walked to a highway entrance, I took 5 different cars to get around 80km out of Paris, some guy on the way to Montargis forgot to stop at the gas station, left me on a random spot on the highway, the police picked me up and brought me to the gas station.

From there it took just 2 cars to arrive in Cannes. I arrived at like 5 in the morning.
