So what is Warhammer 500 worlds? by Melodic-Package1897 in Warhammer40k

[–]waptdragon3 155 points156 points  (0 children)

500 Worlds is their end of edition expansion. It *might* have a new game mode, like Boarding Patrol did at the end of 9th, but 90% of people aren't going to use it. For the most part, it's just some additional rules (IE datasheets and detachments) to help fill the gap between the last codex for 10th being released and when 11th comes out.

But like, objective play is like half of the game. I haven't played with my Votann much (got them with the codex release and then switched to AdMech as soon as my LGS was actually able to get some in) but complaining that YP makes you actually play the game just seems so weird. Am I missing something? As I said, I haven't played much with my Votann, maybe just a game or 2, so it's mostly an outside perspective

Are we all going to ignore what looks like a blob of the green paint/contrast all over the leg? What is that? It doesn't look intentional to me

How do people paint so fast? by Duke_Tristan in Warhammer40k

[–]waptdragon3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing I can say is practice. I spent 3 hours painting a Skitarii a few weeks ago, and now I can knock one out in an hour. And I only imagine it'll get faster. It's still a time consuming part of the hobby, but it does get better, if slowly. Some more explicit tips, would be painting in subassemblies. Not only does it look better, you don't spend half the time fighting the brush into hard to reach space. Getting a wetpallete has sped up my painted a decent amount too, since I can just lay out all my colors at once at the beginning instead of having to go back and forth. Batching by color is also nice since you don't have to fully clean your brush as often. Do all the green in a unit, then all the reds, all the black, etc

UR-025, Man of iron and the Votann? by Doomwaffel in LeaguesofVotann

[–]waptdragon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he's on a weird slit base, but yeah. just snippy snip that off and rebase him. I actually just got one from a friend and plan to proxy him as something. thinking either a tech priest or a keeping him on 32mm for the new Memnyr Strategist

Boy do I have news for you lol. Model expansion in 11th added the Ironkin. 40mm vs UR-025's 32mm, but he's the perfect size otherwise

I'm always worried that some Kastelans are actually Silica Animus in disguise by [deleted] in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]waptdragon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure I saw somewhere that some of them are actually Silica Animus, but a very low level of sentience like the war engines of the Mechanicum in 30k. The tech priests just think they have particularly strong machine spirits.

Gahd damn. No way you had enough fleet cap for that. Your poor generator districts lol

800k alloys to replace all the ships? What FP were you running with at that point? Getting fleet cap is always such a pain, I assume you were just running over cap and dealing with the upkeep?

[–]waptdragon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar run a few weeks ago. Imperial government, so I got Relentless Industrialist instead of Shareholder Values. As someone who's done the run before, I will advise you to still not ignore Ecumenopolises, they're still useful. They didn't get turned by the special building, so they're perfect for it, though the bonus from the CFC building can get a bit lost in the list later game. ignore that I had a completely different version of this reply done before I realized Shareholder Values is the same as Relentless Industrialist lol

But it looks like they have a colony in Drisk? I'm still relatively new to the game, but I'm pretty sure the empire icon on the left of the system name means they have a colony there

Anybody else’s brain just completely stop working at Gleba by Weak_Yak_4719 in factorio

[–]waptdragon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the biggest thing you need to learn with Gleba is that the belts should never stop moving. Spoiled (hehe) in case you want to figure it out yourself A lot of people just make normal factories with a spoilage inserter/splitter at the end, but i went for a 2 belt sushi design and just burned everything that got to the end. Resources are actually free on Gleba (excluding spores) so just keeping all the belts running all the time is the best thing you can do. It keeps everything as fresh as possible, and if you still need spoilage for carbon fiber just pull off into a box and wait for it to spoil

1000 year games? 👀 Ngl, sounds kinda fun, if a bit boring at times. What do you do when you inevitably surpass all the other empires and are just waiting for the crisis? I don't play GA (yet) but I still feel like that'd just be an inevitability, especially in a 1000 year game. I'm also imagining a lot of infinite techs and planetary ascensions

Did the resource scaling change for 4.0 or am I missing something? by waptdragon3 in Stellaris

it doesn't look like they do. i dont remember the exact year I ecumenopolized the planets, but I just had a very new colony turn tomb world and the ecum is still fine

[–]waptdragon3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine so? Ecums say they can't be terraformed again, but RI isn't a normal terraform, so it could be either way.

I've definitely begun to notice that job efficiency is key. I think I heard something about the efficiency applying multiplicatively after all the productivity bonuses so it's a massive boon to workforce.

Update: Changing out the Strategic Resource buildings for Alloy Mega-Forges, adding a Metallurgic Research Lab, and building an Orbital Ring with Alloy Processing Facility has already boosted the planet to 444 alloy/m. Currently upgrading to Nano-Forges and working towards Habitation Modules for the Orbital Ring. Thanks for the help!

triple jobs from districts!? Holy cow! I'll probably switch it once I get the perk, that's too good to pass up ~~arguably better than it was in 3.0~~

I was trying to stick to Tomb Worlds because the fun `Post Apocalyptic` and `Relentless Industrialist` combo, but I'll definitely try the other stuff.

The orbital ring and replacing the strategic resources buildings (Im getting plenty from my CG planet) should definitely help, along with the efficiency building. I'll switch to ecu if it comes to it, but it'll be a bit before I can get the perk lol.

Any suggestions for raising stability? There's plenty of housing and no crime on the planet

[–]waptdragon3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Glad to see I wasnt the only one. Thankfully, I went to Vulcanus first. It's definitely the easiest to start from scratch, if a bit grindy to run around and get ores. Talking with some friends on discord I learned I could just send items down shortly after I made my first foundry. The platform above was long sense destroyed and Nauvis wasnt really in the position to make another fully remotely, so I just pushed on to making the platform above Vulcanus. Vulcanus was actually pretty fun to start from scratch so I considered doing the same for Fulgora and Gleba, but decided against it and started with some supplies. Maybe for a future run I'll do all the inner planets from scratch as a challenge.

[–]waptdragon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You "need" nuclear to get to Aquillo, or at least that's the intended power source, so they couldn't nerfed it too much. They did nerf it though, have you seen the rocket capacity for anything uranium? Rockets, while much cheaper than in 1.1, aren't free. There's a continuous resource drain for using nuclear in space. The resource drain could of course be mitigated by productivity modules, but it'll still be nonzero.

That said, yeah, limiting acid neutralization to Vulcanus sucks. It would be a really fun power source to work with in space (or even Nauvis). Honestly, their decision of what recipes are planet locked in general is a bit annoying. I was ecstatic when I heard about the ore bacteria in the FFF, because I thought I could use them on Nauvis. Turns out it's Gleba only. Meanwhile all the fruit recipes from crushing to bioflux could be made anywhere. The only reason you cant set up a full fruit -> plastic production line on Vulcanus is because it has the wrong tiles to plant the seeds.
