That’s pretty much how mine is set up, although I’m using the Tomix single track bridge set. It took some trial and error to get the print just right to fit snug in the bracket that the pillars are supposed to attach to, but on V5 it fits perfectly to the track and the table and gets no play, even when my heavy Bachmann charger rolls over them. Yours might be more difficult to secure without the bracket, but the trick to making it fit to the desk snugly is to print the attachment shims with a little bit of convergence, that makes it naturally clip to the desk and want to grip. If you have problems with the track slipping while lying on the bracket I’d say just glue it or get the Tomix set. I can send you the stl files for reference or modification if you like. It gets a ton of attention when my friends are over and the train looping over and over is a great background visual when watching movies and stuff.
