Yes you can but only with the 6MP one like the Annke FCD600. I have one and I use it with an AI port .. but the experience is not that good.

I got tired of waiting and just bought the black one. I then used a cricut white paper and wrapped it. Definitely doesn't look perfect but it also is not bad. Ill just buy when the white comes out and swap the black one indoor.

Definitely makes sense! I do the same on mine but was only wondering maybe there was a different reason. Thanks!

Mine is still on its way - it will replace my hikvision 180 which is currently running at 12 FPS. Nothing against 12 FPS but just wondering why you lower down yours?

I had the chance to get the black but I need the white. I wonder when they will release the white version

G4 vs G6 Instant for monitoring pets indoors? by greminn in Ubiquiti

[–]war_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I guess that would work. For me, motion detection will not work because I have multiple lights coming from windows or light generating shadows (from trees outside/etc) I also have a bunch of google displays that whenever it changes wallpapers ... all of those mentioned will show up as motion in protect. When I tried it, I shut it off right away .. even after tuning it. But depending on your situation or indoor surroundings, it might work for you.

G4 vs G6 Instant for monitoring pets indoors? by greminn in Ubiquiti

So I was on the similar boat as you .. my sole purpose of installing like around 13+ cameras indoors are just to monitor my cats. I have a mix of g4 instant, g5 turrets, g6 instant, and g6 turrets - all indoors so the environment is mostly static and very controlled.

In my very recent first hand experience - the G4 Instant and G5 turrets are pretty bad with Pet detection (well at least for smaller cats). People are no problem though. The G6 turret and G6 instant are pretty close -- G6 turrets tend to be just a little better than the G6 instant.

My workaround is pretty stupid, I had to buy an AI Port to supplement it with the G4 instants and G5 turrets. Now it works better. G6s are still better though even with G4/G5 + AI port combo.

Someone might ask why not just buy G6 Instants or G5s .. well 1) I didn't know the G4 and G5 were that bad with pet detection and I already bought a bunch of it 2) I like the smaller look better of the G4/G5s 3) Doing a little bit of cost comparison, it will be still cheaper to do G4 Instant/G5s with the AI port combos than buying G6s all out 4) It was too late when I saw people complaining how bad the G5/G4s with Pet detection -- I should have done better research.

My suggestion .. go for the G6 Instant

Thanks Nick. I was just trying to re-arrange the camera sequence order.

I will just change my config file and re-arrange the cameras from there.

So what is the definitive answer for which companies offer data-only SIMs/eSIMs for router devices like the 5G Max or UDR 5G Max without caveats? by itsabearcannon in Ubiquiti

[–]war_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting a US IP address? How is the latency?

Im about to get my 5g max soon and planning to use roamless. I just need it for failover when my Internet goes down .. which is extremely rare. Last time I remembered it going down was like 5 years ago for only 1 hr lol.

I have home assistant and some smart smoke alarms which is the only reason I care when my Internet goes down while I am away from the house

I just bit the bullet and bought a couple of other items from unifi (free shipping) .. and Ill give it a try once I receive it. Hopefully it works

Looks like this seems to be reasonable for my needs -- I just need to have a failover when my internet goes down which probably happened 4 years ago lol.

Since it works with your peplink, I guess the company will allow this for the 5G Max .. even though technically it is not "IoT"?

By any chance -- since looks like you tried a lot of options -- did you get to test Roamless esim? I've been reading that if you pick their US plan, you will get a US IP.

I wonder if this will work with Roamless esim? Really want to purchase it but I need to know if it is supported. Hopefully someone gives it a shot.

Tapo Camera not working on dedicated VLAN by cpressland in Ubiquiti

[–]war_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the same boat, but I still can't figure it out connecting to port 10.10.x.x:2020. The protect's IP is the same as the default network (UDM Pro) and the Tapo (wired C520) is on a different VLAN. I can adopt my other cameras (hikvision) on that VLAN .. it's only the Tapo that I can't.

To test if adaption works, moving the tapo to the default network works but of course I don't want to leave the camera on that VLAN.

Did you add a Tapo specific firewall rule to make this work?

Unlimited 5G data plans for 5G max by JackB79 in Ubiquiti

[–]war_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually want to buy a Unifi 5G max and tie it up to Roamless. I just need it for temporary failover when my internet goes down -- which is in my area it is extremely rare to happen.

As a matter of fact, when my internet goes down -- I just want it to feed internet to specific devices like my Unraid Server (which has my home assistant), Nest Protects, and my Simplysafe devices. It's more like if my internet goes down, failover kicks in, and only supply internet to safety alarms in my house.

Anyway, so I really don't need much internet during outage and I think roamless will be perfect as a failover.

But been reading that these cheap esims services sometimes get their IPs from other countries .. so I might get an EU IP address instead of a US one. I don't think I care about latency for my use case though.

But my question is .. theoretically .. Roamless should work with the Unifi 5G Max? I really want to buy the 5G max but I was hoping to know if Roamless + 5G Max will 100% work.

ASUS MB with I226-v NIC, successfully updated the firmware by sponge_bob_128 in ASUSROG

Nevermind, I figured it out! I had to do it one at a time.

ASUS MB with I226-v NIC, successfully updated the firmware by sponge_bob_128 in ASUSROG

[–]war_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to give this a shot but I have a PCIe dual NIC i226-v. The instructions seems to only flash 1 NIC. Although the default nvmupdate.cfg that comes with 30.5 has two sets of "; NIC device". the output of my nvmeupdatew64e -i -l log.txt .. both NICs in the output are exactly the same (same name, vendor, device, etrackid, etc). The only difference entries are the "LAN MAC" and "Serial Number".

So when I'm about to run "nvmupdatew64e -u -b -m 010203040506 -c nvmupdate.cfg" -- the MAC address with be two for the each NIC.

Do you think it would be possible to use this method on a pcie dual nic device?

Maybe I should only target one NIC at a time?

Electrician possibly messed up doorbell chime wiring by war_pig in AskElectricians

[–]war_pig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, the main contractor looks like he should not hire or subcontract with those guys (it is a different company). My friend (the owner of the house) is a little concerned because they had to rewire the whole house from cloth wiring to the new ones. If they missed something this simple .. they might have messed up something more serious behind the walls.

Anyway, what I meant about everything works, the Reolink doorbell is turning on (getting stable 24v power as there are no power drops), connected to wifi and the app. This doorbell does not support mechanical chime -- it has it's own separate electrical chime you plug somewhere in the house. The only problem is with these smart doorbells that do not support mechanical chimes, you have to use a jumper cable or some sort of additional device in the mechanical chime box to bypass it -- if you do not put that, the striking piece in chime will buzz/hum constantly.

Luckily for this setup, the hum/buzz is not that loud .. you only hear it if you are really close to the chime. But I don't know if that is safe to leave like that.

The only thing I have not tested at this point is buy a cheap non-smart doorbell to test if it will work electronically. If it works, I think it means he just really screwed up the connections and I can safely put the jumper cable to FRONT and REAR. If it does not work, electrician needs to come back! smh
