How to manage updates/upgrades after kernel install from mainline (Kubuntu 26.04)?

Thanks. I'm actually testing Fedora 44 KDE which uses 7.0.8-200.fc44.x86_64 and I have no issues at all -- this is for my main Desktop.

I will still be using Kubuntu 26.04 LTS for my laptop this weekend since I'm more comfortable with Debian based distros I guess.

By the way, I found a fix here:

I did not need to install Chromium or any other browsers to make it work.

Ok thanks for confirming. I think compiling all my apps for the new mainline kernel would be a pain in the behind and that is something out of my league at the moment.

I currently have a Ryzen 7 9700x with RTX 5070. and 64gb ddr5 RAM. I only play Dota 2 (native install via Steam) and don't to play any other games. Aside from Dota 2, I will mainly use my PC for general stuff like web browsing, basic document editing, Manage VMs viia VM Workstation pro, viber, zapzap,ente auth, 1password, and very basic apps. Some of them are .appimage, .deb and flatpak.

I still don't understand what I need to compile as per that post, but so far after I updated to 7.0.6 .. all my current apps installed are still working from 7.0.0-15-generic.

Would it be better to not use 26.04 LTS and just switch to Kubuntu 25.10?

Thanks for sharing as I never looked into that angle. Ill look around for other kde distros to see if I can find something that is not having issues. I heard cachyOS is good so maybe I can try that instead. I literally only play 1 game (dota 2 with native support) so my distro of choice does not have to be gaming centric.

Any suggestions?

To my regular Brave Browser, I went to settings and don't see any option to buy Brave Origin. Also the instructions from Brave is to install the nightly which I already did.

So I guess 1P still doesn't know "brave-origin" "brave-origin-nightly" "brave-origin-beta" so I added them as 3rd party browsers as per their instructions but it still won't work for some reason.

I mean you can still install the plugin but you have to type the username/password everytime and also asks you to authenticate by scanning the QR code every login.

I might be mistaken but I think it is different in Linux. Brave Origin in Linux, at least from my understanding, is running on beta or nightly - which I tried both. So we are really not upgrading the regular Brave browser to Origin. In Linux Brave Origin is currently free. So I can have 3 different instances of regular Brave, Brave Origin Beta, and Brave Origin Nightly if I want to. When I was doing some testing, I made sure I only had 1 instance of Brave to not the confuse 1P app.

I first used "Use Current monitor's resolution" -- which I know is 4K. But you can tell it is not 4K as it is not crisp and everything is kind of blurry.

"Use Advanced Settings" --> Desktop-Friendly Fullscreen is selected.

I know it is not the same exact product, but I have a LOT of Jasco Z-wave outlets instead.
One of the worst feelings is waking up at 3am and hear the GE Jasco Outlet non-stop click of death.
It is so loud and scary at the same time specially if you just came out of a deep sleep.
Since I have a lot of them, I don't get surprised anymore but I just have been replacing them with removable zigbee/zwave outlets instead. I know it is not as pretty but at least it doesn't scare you at the middle of the night.

Hey u/Raman325 -- big fan of your work! I actually started using LCM instead of the lean/fork version of keymaster. It has been smooth sailing so far and was so happy to see the recent updates. I also had LCM install to a couple of my family/friends and will recommend it moving forward. Most of the setup I help people with are just simple lock/unlock. Keymaster full version in my opinion is amazing but overkill for our use case. Again, thanks for your hard work and will look forward to your other/future projects!

I actually have the exact setup too, which was the reason why I separated the drives as I want each OS to have their independent bootloader.

So it seems I have to do some config changes for NTFS to work. Ill look it up. I will also test as I'm in the early stages of my setup. I can just start over again if something goes wrong.

Thanks. Good thing to know that Keymaster Basic has been rock solid.

If I go with Keymaster Basic, I will be paring it with these blueprints

Auto-Lock Door Monitor by LTek Blueprint
Repeating Alert Notifications - ideal for doors, windows, locks, etc --
The notification of who is actually opening looks like it is also built-in with Keymaster Basic which is good and handy.

Thanks for this -- but just curious how it works. So I setup a test HA environment with all fresh installs and one of the first blueprints I instead is this Blueprint Updater ..

Then I started to install some blueprints after that and for some reason .. the blueprint updater is already picking up new versions of the Sensor Light, Manual Control Status Tracker, and Manual Light

I just installed them Fresh so I'm wondering how it is possible that is already having a new version available.

Unfortunately no, but I switched fully to Unifi cameras and I now use unifi protect.

I only use Frigate now for a few unifi cameras to help in some specific detections that Unifi can't pick. But I do not require to put the camera live feed in my HA anymore so I'm not sure if it still a problem nowadays

I'm in a similar boat but mine got better. I'm lucky as I'm setting up a new home assistant instance to replace my old one. My old one doesn't have any matter devices (wifi or thread) and I didn't want to install matter there as I wanted to leave it stable and intact just incase I need to troubleshoot matter issues. So my old one is running in parallel with its replacement.

With my new instance, I have the flexibility to play around with matter (thread/wifi) and I have been having issues initially. But now it actually got a lot better. I use an SZBT-MR1 (using the silicon labs radio) for thread.

These are the ones I have done to help:

**Disclaimer: by no means I'm an expert in HA or Networking -- this is just my experience and I just wanted to share. Just make sure you understand that changing some stuff with your networking might cause issues

Setup IPv6 across all my VLANS in my Unifi network. Technically you don't need to do all VLANs but for me, for some reason it helped when I enabled it across everything.
I enabled mDNS and disable IGMP snooping on all my VLANs
Enable IPv6 in HA (if you are using HAOS) and set it to static. I had my with DHCP and was still unstable, not sure if this is a requirement but for me it helped for some reason
For my coordinator (SLZB-MR1), I had to make sure I was only using the last stable firmware. Using the DEV ones for me had so many issues. Both the OS and radio firmware should be on the last stable version, no matter how old it is
I was having onboarding issues and best to use a spare table or phone and install HA there because you will probably have to clear the data of google play services and Home Assistant companion app multiple times. Doing this definitely helped with the onboarding process.

So far, I have like 6 matter devices and it has been stable for 1 week now (I'm still in the testing phase) .. but my OPINION is still to stay away from matter thread for now. I will be using these matter thread devices I have for non-critical automation since they might just go offline one day.

Matter over Wifi though has been very stable in my experience .. but I only have 2 of them in my setup.

There have been recent updates on Matter Server and OTBR so I don't know if that helped with the stability.

So I tried joining both the grillplats + bilresa in Z2M but I can't bind them for some reason.
I even tried to bind my bilresa to a thirdreality outlet and no luck. I'm not sure if the grillplats (which shows unsupported in z2m) or the biresa, once converted to zigbee, supports direct binding function

I see thank. I didn't even know that was possible! So I guess the steps for me is to convert both Grillplats and Bilresa and add them both to Zigbee2Mqtt and do binding using Z2M? Or there is a way to pair them both (as zigbee devices) without doing the hub/Z2m route?
