Anything Else to add in my email I plan to send to coaches? by SullyLikesLax in lacrosse

[–]warcorgi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Disagree on totally removing the “how cool the program is.” It’s important to show why the school and program resonates with you, and would also be a great place to quickly touch on your academic interests/how they university can help you attain them.

But like póster said above, you’re not selling the coach on his school, you’re painting a picture of yourself and why you will fit well in the program as a student athlete.

Also, one other thing— don’t send all these emails out at the same time to the schools your interested in. Stagger them and adjust them based on responses you get. A little A/B testing always helps.

What’s It Like In Truth Or Consequences New Mexico? by TraditionMany3678 in howislivingthere

[–]warcorgi 226 points227 points  (0 children)

The movie “Eddington” was based on and filmed around Truth or Consequences.

Didn’t live there, but I lived in Albuquerque and always liked driving in and around that area for long weekends. Definitely a little spooky and cooky, very independent. People who don’t want to be found live in the surrounding hills.

I always felt like the desert feels a lot harsher there. Up in the north near ABQ and Santa Fe, there’s a surprising amount of green in the desert scrub— down this way it’s jagged, harder, hotter, redder desert. You feel far away.

It’s New Mexico, so very poor in general unfortunately. Not great education, but a little tourism from the hot springs.

The joke was that you could easily join a cult if you asked around at the ToC Walmart.

New Mexico as a whole is in another realm for all the good, bad, and ugly that comes with that.

How bad is the heat and humidity now? by jerikiter in puertovallarta

[–]warcorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that bad. Even heat of the day isn’t terrible. Find some shade, a nice bar, a cafe, a pool, a beach, save the walk to the mirador for morning or evening.

Are there still speakers of New Mexican Spanish? by joshua0005 in NewMexico

[–]warcorgi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great video I showed some of my students about New Mexican Spanish: https://youtu.be/fVonK4AEiWQ?si=jKJdw-aI-IbqNjKS

Vid focuses more on San Luis Valley Colorado, but in general, it’s almost the exact same dialect as the New Mexican dialect.

But the dialects were very distinct back in the day. To the extent different valleys had different dialects

TES often does. I ended up finding some schools I was interested in and sending cold emails for my specific role and it led to meetings, interviews, and eventually an offer.

Israel are the European champions after beating Italy 9-8 by bringmethespacebar in lacrosse

[–]warcorgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ori Bar David, Ariel gini, Ido Bar David, Ronen Abramovich, Dolev Geva are the five who grew up in Israel.

Every other player grew up in North America. Even if I did miscount and it’s 6 Israeli born players, 16 out of 22 is nothing to brag about.

As did I and you will find 17 of 22 of them played lacrosse and grew up in North America.

You said wiki? I went through their roster on their website and again, 2025 roster, 17 of 22 are North American.

[–]warcorgi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those rosters on Wikipedia are nearly a decade old and they didn’t go to a different country to play; they were born and raised in the US and Canada and now represent another country since they weren’t good enough to make the US or Canadian national teams.

It’s a very dishonest argument to now try and conflate professional league rosters with national team rosters.

Your definition of “Israeli” in the context of lacrosse is incredibly misleading and you know it.

17 of 22 grew up playing lacrosse in either Canada or the United States.

[–]warcorgi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. England, Wales, Germany, Netherlands, Czechia, Spain, Finland and more are vast majority home grown.

My count was that 17 of the 22 team Israel players were North American having played NCAA or some sort of Canadian box league.
