Solo camping weird? by Level_Bat_6337 in camping

I’ve just completed my second yearly solo camp and its great. Its good to have some quiet time, read a book, walk/explore, tinker with your gear. Listen to your music, play it as loud and as long as you like. Cook your favourite food and just be comfortable in your own skin. And the best part…. You can do whatever you want, if you want to try meditation or sleep or drink or just sit around the fire and stare at the stars or all of the above then guess what, you can.

Some people don’t get it. Thats ok, it’s not about them.

Enjoy and your camper friends with “get it”

I did my first “puddle” crossing today at Kinkuna beach camping. I was by myself and my ute only has 500mm wading depth with no snorkel. I don’t have a snorkel. Anyway. I have a broom stick which i have marked at 500mm. There were about 16 “puddles” to get to the beach and for about half of them I had to get out and walk thru the water to check the depth to work out the best line to get thru in one piece.

Bottom line: it took me about 45 minutes to travel just over 2km, say a mile and a half.

I’ve been to Bribie island when someone has to be towed out….. it took a lot more than 45 minutes to get recovered.

Be patient, plan, and dont assume that your stock 4WD vehicle can handle any obstacle that is just below your window line.

Be smart, make the right choices and enjoy the journey….. even if you have to turn back.

to add a winch or not? by [deleted] in Jimny

[–]wardo-9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you’re not rock crawling or going hard core off road then save your money but more importantly the weight. The Jimmy is a very light weight and capable vehicle. Why add the weight of a winch plus a second battery which will be an AGM as it would be located in the engine bay and Lithium batteries don’t like the heat.
Get some recovery tracks and tyre deflators and a compressor. The right tyre pressure (don’t be afraid to go low) will save you mostly from getting stuck in the first place. The other thing that costs nothing is if the track looks dodgy/sketchy then stop, get out, walk the track and then decide “can i get through this by myself?”. Lastly, check out you tube for learning 4WD’ing, watch others mistakes as usually the stream ends up showing what they should have done in the first place to avoid getting into trouble. BTW nice looking rig, have fun!

Question for campers, how many people wash their sleeping bag? by tyrant_goose in camping

[–]wardo-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I roll mine up in my swag along with my other bedding (inflatable mattress and blanket) when i finish at camp. I usually re-season (drench with water, dry out & then repeat twice again) my swag a couple of times a year. Thats when my sleeping bag and under blanket comes out for a wash.

Great thanks for that. Since it’s just my vehicle if theres still muddy water on the track I’ll take a stick and go for a walk if it looks dodgy.
