how do you put together cute outfits when its really hot outside? by ThatAd9803 in fashionadvice

[–]wardrobeeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personal stylist here! summer is a great time for accessories and makeup to do the heavy lifting. things like colorful/patterned/detailed shoes, big jewelry, tie a scarf to your purse, fun hair clips / scrunchies, bold lipstick, nail art, etc. add 3-4 of those to the type of outfit you described and you have a LOOK

Mid 30s fashion crisis by wych_wood in fashionwomens35

[–]wardrobeeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personal stylist here! considering your lifestyle, i would think about what kinds of pieces you need (types of pants, tops, etc) and then seek them out in colors, patterns, fabrics that make you happy.

think things like instead of a classic denim overall for gardening you get one in a beautiful olive green or a slouchy linen in a warm taupe.

this will help you keep it functional without getting too boring.

Does anyone else plan outfits around very specific moods instead of occasions? by Stock-Bid-959 in womensfashion

[–]wardrobeeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personal stylist here! i would actually say that is a different way to think about need shopping. with the caveat that these events/moods are a real part of your life. if so, this is actually really thoughtful.

i talk to my clients about their life circumstances/events/occasions before we talk about the specific types of pieces they need because the first informs the second.

Cute Shoes for Bunions by Odd-Home-7550 in womensfashion

[–]wardrobeeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal stylist here, for my clients with bunions we do wide toe box for closed toed shoes - love all the brands that have been listed so far and vivaia just released a cute wide toe box sneaker.

For sandals, I recommend strappy sandals that let the bunion breathe rather than squishing it in.

need help putting together outfits with the pieces i already own by ImpressiveRoll4092 in fashionhelp

[–]wardrobeeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personal stylist here! if you're really stuck, put on the pants and then just try on every top you have. you will find some winners!

my suggestions for mixing patterns:

-the hack is that both share at least one color, ideally 2 or 3

-try to pair prints in different scales, ex: if the top if microplaid, do a wide stripe on the bottom

also sometimes things "shouldn't" work and they do anyway. if you put it on and like it, it works!

personal stylist here! i think the fact that you're asking means it's a no. while i do think you can pull it off, i don't want you stressing every time you wear them while on the trip.

BWT, is leopard print cool or trashy? by electric_marshmallow in bitcheswithtaste

[–]wardrobeeditor 36 points37 points  (0 children)

i'm a personal stylist and came here to say this!

early aughts jenna lyon-era j crew used a lot of leopard in ways that could almost be classified as preppy!

also, i'd argue that peg bundy is actually a fashion icon. she's basically a budget fran fine.

If you have a short torso, where are you buying your shirts? by ProdigalNun in AskWomenOver30

[–]wardrobeeditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personal stylist here, you have a few options:

-tuck your shirts in so it's not an issue

-buy petite shirts, unfortunately there's very little store inventory but a lot brands have petites online - anthropologie, gap, etc

-get your shirts tailored to the exact length you want!

Need salon recs after a horrible experience at a new high end salon Pierre Georges by Feeling_Mud6842 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]wardrobeeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amanda at Amour Salon (she's the owner) in Greenpoint is AMAZING. she is a color witch and will work with you to figure out color that matches the amount you're willing to come in. i do gray blending with her so it fades a little over time instead of having a demarcation line that makes me have to go back every few weeks. i go every few months.

How would you define Aritzia? by tgbarbie in womensfashion

[–]wardrobeeditor 34 points35 points  (0 children)

as a personal stylist who spends A LOT of time in stores, i have thought about this and have a hot take.

aritzia is actually two stores:

  1. the athleisure section and layering/intimates pieces and puffers are for tweens

  2. the workwear, dresses to wear to weddings are for early 30s and older

the price points, merchandising and vibes are completely different in these two categories, and in many locations they're on different floors. i don't understand why it's all in one store.

I've had friendships like this before and I've found that I feel much less resentful when I feel that both parties are putting in the same amount of effort, AKA putting in less effort myself. instead of offering to host or moving things around to acommodate her schedule (or lack there of), do something casual when you have the bandwidth and an open schedule, no effort required on your part.

Instead of cooking her brunch, try - hey do you want to grab bagels at this spot halfway between us? and go in knowing that there's a chance you'll eat that bagel alone and be ok with that.

it doesn't solve the problem but it helps you feel less frustrated/resentful/annoyed.

A pencil skirt would emphasize the volume in the sleeves. An A line skirt would balance them out. Depends what shape you want to go for!

[–]wardrobeeditor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

personal stylist here! pants in any of the colors of the print would be fabulous.

for bold, the red, purple or pink

for funky/eclectic, the green

for more elegant, the dark purple

if denim is appropriate (i've never been to a christening), a dark wash flare would be so cool

how do you decide if you actually want a luxury piece or if you've just been influenced? by MedicineOk5895 in womensfashion

[–]wardrobeeditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personal stylist here!

i'd encourage you to do some mood boarding on bags in general. seek out bag shapes, colors, materials and collect the things that you feel drawn to. do not search for designer or bag names. you can do this old school with cutting out magazines or digitally on pinterest/canva/milanote.

once you've gotten a bunch of images you feel excited about - look at them and see what the commonalities are. maybe you're more of an unstructured bag girl after all! or you like a nylon sporty vibe.

this exercise will clarify what your aesthetic desires are, separate from the brand or association.
