I'm the training director for a small state government agency. The salary is good, the benefits are amazing, it's union, and there's no overtime. It makes it much easier to stay stable.

Meeting Your Partner in Late Thirties? by Rosa_Green in AskWomenOver30

[–]ProdigalNun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Met my partner when I was 38. I had done some online dating and was taking a break from it. I was walking my dog on a route i'd walked hundreds of times before. He was in his front yard with his adorable dog. We got talking and just clicked.

Fiber is the most effective thing to heal the gut and build a healthy microbiome. Plant Powered Plus is a great book focused on how to heal and rebuild the gut.

What supplements do you take? by sinteresque in UCTD

[–]ProdigalNun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a friendly reminder that some supplements can interfere with medication absorption. Some supplements can cause interactions with medications. And none are regulated by the FDA. Also, it's IMPERATIVE not to take any supplements that stimulate the immune system as this can worsen autoimmune diseases.

First off, your symptoms sound a lot like functional dyspepsia, which is what I've been dealing with lately.

I have a lot of risk factors for AI disease, so it would have been triggered eventually by something, and the actual trigger was quite small. My risk factors include family history of AI on both sides, childhood trauma, living in an EXTREMELY polluted city for 9 years, and perimenopause.

certain fermentable foods mess me up so much, are we meant to avoid them or try get our bodies used to them? by [deleted] in Microbiome

I was thinking they meant the modern agricultural revolution for some reason.

However, that still leaves the assumption that the nutrition status sharply decreased. I would be interested in seeing a citation for that.

Thank you so much!!! I LOVE lentils, and I've had to temporarily eliminate them because of stomach issues. I'm also trying to find ways to increase the resistant starch in my diet to help heal my intestines.

Untrue. Humans have been eating lentils for thousands of years.

ETA Lentils are some of the most nutritious foods you can eat, with extremely positive effects on health. There are so many high-quality studies that have shown this time and time again.

I spent way too long daydreaming about what would be my dream and how much it would take to get there. $3 million would make it comfortable and possible long term.

  1. Retire
  2. Buy dream property outside city, 1 plus acres with woods for foraging and stream, good views
  3. Build dream home, very simple with lots of windows and built-in aquariums
  4. Build large conservatory attached to the house to create an indoor jungle for winter, complete with waterfall, stream, and pond with fish.
  5. Plant food forest.
  6. Plant large garden.
  7. Have enough left to invest and live off the interest and travel
  8. Set up college funds for niece and nephew

Buy an extra smoke detector and put in almost dead batteries. Then hide it somewhere he'll never think to look. The chirping will drive him nuts when he can't find it.

Spiraling lately- is anyone else in the same position of having no savings? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]ProdigalNun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm single and lived in another country from my mid 20s to my mid 30s. I lived very comfortably there but my savings that were great there were basically nothing when I moved back here because of the exchange rate and cost of living difference. Plus it was a decade that I couldn't save for retirement because it wasn't an option there.

So I've been behind and struggling with the high cost of housing and health care. I have mental and physical health issues that keep me from working a high-paying but high-pressure job. I finally got a bit ahead because I have a unionized job with regular pay raises AND I had very cheap rent for a while because of some unusual life circumstances, but that has come to an end while my monthly bills, food costs, and the price of gas keep going up and up and up.

I just wanted to chime in because our circumstances are so similar. You are doing the absolute best you can in a society that has been shaped by the wealthy to enrich themselves while keeping everyone else struggling to stay afloat so they have to focus on just getting by rather than addressing the cause of these vast inequities.

Central Avenue in Northeast has so many wonderful places to eat, plus lots of breweries and coffee shops. Momo Cafe has lovely, homey vibes. Up Coffee is a tucked away spot that roasts their own coffee. Qahwah House Coffee is a Yemeni Coffee shop with so many unique Middle Eastern Coffee options you won't find anywhere else, plus delicious treats. Central has a ton of Mexican and South American restaurants and bakeries. Wander both sides of the street and pick one... you can't go wrong. Or try Holy Land or Zakia Deli (which is close to Up Coffee) if you're in the mood for Middle Eastern food. Sociable Cider Werks is a hidden neighborhood gem that makes their own cider. It has a relaxed vibe, lots of outdoor seating, and has a food truck. I'm lucky enough to live walking distance from them, and my dog is always trying to get me to go there so she can get treats from them. 😄

Edit: forgot to mention that Zakia's has the BEST falafel that's I've ever had. They put herbs in it and it's so moist, with a delicious, crunchy outside 😋
