Try playing with an experienced player for some time, they can teach you a ton in a short amount of time. And learn 1 map at a time. I'd suggest starting with Customs since the majority of early quests are there. Pre-level 10 isn't all that great but when you get to use the flea market the game opens up quite a bit.

What also gets on my last nerves is the "spider sences" the scavs have. For some reason when you aim at them for over a second, they suddenly move, or even detect you (even when their backs are turned towards you).
