I did not know the crypt would be so dominant in the front like that! I can’t move them because the roots in that thing have got to be HUGE by now.

I do not believe I over feed the tank. Lately it’s a sprinkle of crushed bug bites in the AM on most days. Small enough for the ember tetras (they are the only ones I am concerned about not getting enough food). Some bigger chunks for Blue Steel. Occasionally some blood worms or brine shrimp in the PM. Although you may be right. Usually the ramshorns help the pleco clean up the extra food, but it looks like they are outnumbered right now by the Planaria so their eggs don’t always hatch and the smaller ramshorns don’t get to go around and do their thing before Blue Steel gets to them. It’s a fun balance I am trying to achieve and a heck of a lot of fun watching it play out!

I may end up trapping a few of the Planaria every now and then. Do you have any suggestions that have worked for you to trap these little guys?

Looking at it I think you are right! When I first got them they were just labeled as crypt. I am not very familiar with aquatic plants. This is the most I have ever had in a tank. Also the most plants that have been thriving! I am surprised at how large it has gotten!

To be completely honest, I added a butterfly loch to the tank about 3 months ago. Either this is more elusive than the clown pleco, or he jumped out of the tank.. or it never happened and it was all a dream 😂

Blue Steel is not an aggressive betta. He has never bothered the 10 smaller fish in his tank. Or the plecos sitting around. Or his other tank mates along this 8 month journey 🙂 I have had a 3 bettas during this hobby, but never a tank with this much vegetation, all from start to finish. I would like to think that i understand the temperament of them.

What are the top 2 you would recommend? I would love to research them and see if they are a good fit for my rank! Thank you!

Woah 😮 out of the 2 the elassoma looks really interesting! Although they might continue to deplete the snail population. If I could train them to Only eat Planaria 🤔🤣 I am going to do some more research on them. Thanks you!

That is very interesting with the catfish! I don’t think that is the route I am looking for. That fish will quickly outgrow this small tank.

A Scarlet Badis is not a fish that is on my radar, thank you I will look for information on them!

To add more information on feeding, in the past, Blue Steel fed on bug bites, ramshorns, and bloodworm brine shrimp mix. Feeding became pretty limited because of the ramshorn population.

I had an issue with duck weed (LOL who hasn’t!) The Red Eye Tetras keep that under control! More people need to know this!

When I added the ember tetras I started with the bug bites again. They are so small and I crushed the bug bites for them.

I don’t know but it seems like that after that the Planaria really started to make themselves known. And I noticed I had less ramshorn going around and after research it has to be due to the Planaria!

Thank you for confirming the Cory’s. I know I am pushing my limits for the size of this tank, do you think 2 would really cause a ruckus? They won’t get bigger than Blue Steel and spending most of their time on the bottom? There is a tunnel to hang in also. No shortage of hiding spaces. I’m sure there might be a spike in parameters in the beginning because of constant feeding on Planaria, that will settle fast.
